Yes they'll be keeping Grey's Anatomy also

Woohoo! I was a bit worried after all the messing about they've done with it - I'd actually resigned myself to the fact that it wans't coming back at all when the break between seasons was so long. I love you Dan!

I actually think this could have a positive effect on H&A and its ratings.

The guy who bought it owns the Daily Star, OK! Star, New etc..... On Friday H&A was in the Star's must watch TV shows of the night, I opened Star magazine yesterday and there was a two page special on Neighbours. Star never really covers the soaps, and I have no doubt that if H&A's summer break wasnt starting next week, then H&A would have got a look in too. So, I reckon once H&A is back, we are in for a publicity overdrive!

I sincerely hope your theory is proven to be correct! What ever little publicity it has in the UK, it has ZILCH in Ireland!

Yeah, it's amazing it does so well here really, considering RTE do absolutely nothing to promote it.

I think they've found though that soaps tend to hold their own ratings, and promoting that Alf is getting married in this episode or Ruby comes close to death here, makes minimal effect on the ratings, you either watch a soap or you don't.

Yeah thats a good point and probably 100% accurate. Still though, I'd just love for it to receive SOME promoting.. as overly-dramatic as the channel 7 adverts are, I find them quiet exciting and entertaining! :P

I dont neceassarily agree, if you look at the Will Sally Survive campaign or the Olympic Cliffhanger return, both were hugely advertised and delivered huge ratings. And if you are a casual viewer or an ex viewer and you see something that catches your eye then you might tune in. My mum hasnt watched H&A in years, yet she watched when Sally left and when Marilyn returned because she had read about it happening.

Yeah, for a couple of episodes or a week, then those peoples whose interests had been aroused, lose interest again. I mean, I watched Eastenders live episode, the 20th anniversary Neighbours week or when Mr Hopwood drove Gail and her family into the canal, but I don't actually watch them. So, yes, a spike, but I think they usually settle down again.

I don't really agree with this. Yeah, a spike in ratings may occur, but if olde viewers tune in and see someting they like, they may start watching properly again. I know that a lot of people suddenly discovered Home and Away just because it came on after Neighbours when it moved to Five.

Desmond also confirmed this today:

Flagship acquisitions including CSI, Home & Away, Neighbours and The Mentalist will stay with the channel, while an insider close to the deal said Desmond was likely to spend on both UK commissions and further foreign imports.

However whilst it means the show itself is safe, they have not yet ruled out the idea of Five going to Pay TV.....

glad to hear that H&A is safe, although didn't they commit to showing and funding it for as long as 7 make it? i imagine there will be more advertising not only for the channel but for the individual shows including H&A in his papers and magazines.
