1989 Episode Discussion

I first knew of Dodge when he appeared in 1995

to pay his so-called best mate Stevo back for betraying him by having him put inside

. I had to get a friend (who had watched H&A from the beginning in its original run) to explain the storyline to me.

Dodge is one of the biggest reasons why I welcome the Home And Away repeats.

That's the exact same thing that happened to me. I prefer Gary though.

OMG that cliffhanger is one of the reasons why double epiespdes are a must come on 7two make it happen

I agree. I would like it if they could make episodes two hours long just for a couple of weeks to speed it up. Because I have already seen the Dodge storyline and it takes up most of 1989 and seeing it again I would find it boring.

How far away away are we from where we last left off on early years?

Thanks.

I'd agree to that on the promise they DON'T CUT THE RECAPS, BEGINNINGS, OPENING OR CLOSING CREDITS of any episode!

Last time when they showed double episodes for the last half of 1999 they made an absolute butchery of the credits and the beginnings of episodes.

I do like Sons and Daughters though.

I'm in two minds, yes it would be nice two episodes a day, but at the same time, I think it can all pass too quickly as well. Like in Old H&A Fans signature if at Christmas 2011 we've just said goodbye to Viv, Christmas 2012 Lucinda is arriving etc, I will be happy.

The week of Meg's death might be an interesting one because that will be the week Sons and Daughters finishes.

I'm enjoying S&D too. What amazes me is how little I can remember of it, not from the 80s UK broadcasts, but from the early-mid 90s repeats. 99.9% of it I have no memory of at all, which is just bizarre. I just hope they don't take 'em off again halfway through like they did last time!

No, you're supposed to know Dodge did it from the start. It's the key to everything that follows, really, IMHO.

It does seem a very tightly created arc, where they know how everything is going to play out and then they use every single episode and scene to it's upmost, whereas this years Penn story, though not wholly comparable, has meandered for so long that everyone lost interest.

I'm absolutely loving Dodge but he could have left my Phillip alone. When's the next Favourite character survey? Phillip must be remembered... yeah I might forget about him by then.

im starting to wondwer why they showed dodges face yet they didnt even credit him wouldnt it have been better as a who done it mystery or is it just me

Backing up what Codyw1 already said, the point is that you KNOW Dodge killed Steven's uncle and yet you are watching Dodge befriend him and leading him astray. If you didn't know it was Dodge, there wouldn't be that added sinister undertone to the storyline and it would just be about two boys mucking about and going a little astray. Yes there would be a twist at the end (but it would be an OBVIOUS one!) and the storyline as a whole would not be as engaging to watch.

ETA: I assumed from the discussion taking place (I'm not up to date with the Early Years) that we had seen the start of this storyline. Sorry. Maybe we should stick to talking about what we've actually seen :D
