There's a few other things that I notice - Bobby has almost descended into the background and her milkshake serving role. I guess after the marathon that was her paternity she probably needed to be in the background, but I feel as if she hasn't done anything for weeks now.

Quite interesting that people have noticed the changes, as we've not long had the first change in Story Editor (Script Producer nowadays), with Bevan's last episode airing about 7 weeks ago.

Ah that is quite interesting to know. I too feel the show has changed direction over the past few weeks and has become less 'warm and fuzzy' and more event driven. Not that I dislike it, at all, its still very character lead, but as you say, they were obviously finding their feet.

Maz' arrival has been fantastic to watch, I'm looking forward to all the shenanigans they get up too!

I think of all the 1989 episodes my favorite from start to finish so far has to be 284, I've watched many times as I think its beautifully written.

I guess it's understandable that it would take them a while to find their feet, as I can't imagine it would have been an easy transition taking over from the person who had created the storylines from it's very beginning.

Thanks for the info, Dan. I hadn't realised that Bevan had finished with the show by this point. I think it's safe to say that his stints as Story Editor or indeed just writing for the show are its best bits - 88, 04, 08. He's an amazing talent.

I can't wait to see Marilyn's arrival, I imagine she will be a breath of fresh air! :D

......Dodge was a great villian, but I never liked his treatment of Sally even if she did act like a little brat towards him.

What about her pulling that ugly face when the family photo was taken today?

What about her "I HATE HIM" carryings-on and her smartarse comments about being rude to interrupt when "Pippa" reminded the little brat that Dodge was talking to her?

This smells more like antagonism, targetting Dodge in particular, than just merely a 9-year-old being a spoilt little brat.

What did he ever do to her (apart from steal candy from her at the bus stop)?????????

It seems that they've swayed too much towards drama and not in a good way. Although, having read that Marilyn's just arrived, I expect TPTB saw this and tried to rectify it

Hmmm but Marilyn has been mentioned for weeks now so it's obviously all been planned this way, not just "oh we've had too much drama lately let's bring in a fun character".

Having seen the recent exterior scenes of Alf's bait shop, am I right in thinking it was filmed at Barrenjoey Boathouse, i.e. the location of Alf's current bait shop?

The answer to that one is in the staff room :P It isn't Barrenjoey Boathouse, but it's not too far away. It's photographed and awaiting upload to the site along with a few other early years locations. Other than a lick of paint, it's still exactly the same 23 years later.

Seriously, I really am surprised Alf hasn't planted his fist in Morag's face by now given the amount of aggro she has caused him (the way she dealt with Brett, Bobby, Vera, and smaller things like Lance Smart etc), on top of his flamin' bad temper. Why did he plant one in Brett's face, Michael's face, etc. but never Morag???

I'm sure you're just dying for someone to reply "because she's a woman", so you can spout stuff about equality (I've noticed you really hate mentions of "women's intuition," or indeed anything about women that seperates them favourably from men) ... But I think the reason he has never hit her is because she is family and no matter how much aggro they cause Alf would never physically hurt a member of his family. He never hit Duncan despite all the aggro he caused in later years.

I must admit I'd forgotten just how horrible Morag used to be to Celia. It's quite uncomfortable to watch sometimes. But I love it when Celia (just occasionally) gets one over on her.

And there has been a sad lack of scenes between Ailsa and Morag since she came back to the Bay. They established such a mutual hatred in the first season, and I remember it well during Morag's 1993 stint as well. But so far in 1989 there's been barely a word said between them (apart from Bobby's wedding epsiode). Do they get some good scenes soon?
