Episode 7 - Good News and Bad News

Alison, Melissa, Sylvia and Rachael are in the living room talking about the phone call Alison received earlier

Alison: Your dad is going to die?

Rachael: *in tears* Yes. The doctor had to send us to the hospital to have something checked out. When we arrived at the hospital, the doctor scanned him and found out that his cancer has came back. But this time its terminal. *wipes away her tears with a tissue*

Melissa: Oh honey. I'm so sorry to hear that. *hugs Rachael*

Sylvia: How long has he got left?

Rachael: Three months.

*Alison, Sylvia and Melissa gasp*

Rachael: I don't know how I am going to cope without Dad. Mum's already in Samoa and I miss her like crazy.

Alison: Don't worry. We'll support you.

Rachael: Thanks.

The next morning (Saturday), Alison is having breakfast when Jenny walks in with a huge smile on her face

Jenny: Good morning.

Alison: Jennifer Peters! Did you do what I think you did?

Jenny: Yes.

Alison: Oh boy! Two dates and you and Brock have already done it?

Jenny: We really love each other. It's instant romance.

Alison: You'll never guess what I found out last night. Rachael Manase's father is going to die.

*Jenny looks shocked*

Alison: His cancer returned. Only got three months to live.

Jenny: Poor Rachael. How is she coping?

Alison: Not well. Not well at all.

Jenny: Why don't you invite her over?

Alison: I can't. She's going to see her cousins at Mount Druitt today. Melissa's going with her. So I might go over to Sylvia's house.

Jenny: I have to do the groceries and then pick up my dress from the dry cleaners.

Alison: Looks like we are in for a busy day today.

Jenny: I guess so. *smiling*

At 11 o'clock that morning, Alison goes over to Sylvia's house and rings the doorbell

*Sylvia opens the door*

Sylvia: Hey Alison.

Alison: Hi Sylvia. *both girls kiss on the cheek*

Sylvia: How's it going?

Alison: Good. May I come in?

Sylvia: Sure.

*Both girls go into Sylvia's bedroom which is upstairs.*

Alison: You've got a great view from up here.

Sylvia: I know.

Alison: *sees next-door's backyard* Who's backyard is that? You can see right through it.

Sylvia: That's Riggot's house. And it looks like the siblings are going out to play now.

*Five kids (Riggot included) are playing out in the backyard*

Sylvia: Let's go visit them.

Alison: Okay.

*Alison and Sylvia walk over to the Riggot's house. Mr Varu answers the door.*

Mr Varu: Hello Sylvia. Hello Alison. What brings you here?

Alison: We just thought we'd come for a visit Mr Varu.

Mr Varu: Come on in girls.

*Alison and Sylvia go inside the house. Mrs Varu is in the kitchen making a cake.*

Mr Varu: Darling. Alison and Sylvia are here.

Mrs Varu: Hello girls. *kisses both girls on the cheek* I just made a cake. Would you like a slice?

Alison: Maybe later.

Mrs Varu: I'll just get the kids. *calls out* Kids!!! Alison and Sylvia are here!!!

*Riggot and his four siblings (VJ, Mareta, Praise and Benji) enter the house*

Riggot: Sup girls! *hugs both girls*

Mareta: Hi.

VJ: Sup!

Benji: Yo!

Praise: Hello.

Alison: Who wants to play outside with me and Sylvia?

Mareta: I do! I do!

VJ: I would like do but I have to meet my friends at the train station in an hour.

Alison: That's fine. We understand.

*The Varu siblings, Alison and Sylvia then go and play outside*

When Alison gets home, she decides to give her mother a phone call. Mrs Patterson picks up on the third ring.

Alison: Hello Mum.

Mrs Patterson: Hello Alison. How is it going in the city?

Alison: I'm loving it. I've got a good life now and have made some new friends. How is it going at the farm?

Mrs Patterson: It's going well. I've got some good news. Your father and I are expecting a baby.

Alison: That's great! I'm so happy for you Mum.

Mrs Patterson: I only just found out that I'm four months pregnant today.

Alison: So how are Kim and Mav?

Mrs Patterson: Mav is enjoying Year 7 but he is having difficulty in Maths. And Kim has made a new friend at school.

Alison: The reason I called was because I wanted to ask you if I could come and spend next Friday and Saturday with you.

Mrs Patterson: I would like that very much. Listen, I have to go now. I've got a customer waiting to buy some milk.

Alison: Okay. See you next weekend. Bye Mum. I love you.

Mrs Patterson: I love you too my girl. Bye-bye.

Episode 8 - Out with the Old and in with the New

The next day, Alison visits Mr Manase at Westmead Hospital. Rachael is there with him.

Mr Manase: Hello Alison.

Alison: Hi Mr Manase. *grabs a vase and puts some flowers in it* I just thought I would come and give you some flowers.

Mr Manase: Thank you.

Rachael: How are you Alison? *they hug*

Alison: I'm good. By the way who is going to look after him while we are at TAFE tomorrow?

Rachael: Mum is going to. She's coming over tonight and I have to pick her up at the airport at 7:30.

Alison: Have Melissa and Sylvia visited?

Rachael: They came and saw him this morning.

Alison: Do you want to grab something to eat?

Rachael: Sure. *to Mr Manase* We'll be right back Dad. We're going to have something to eat. Do you want anything?

Mr Manase: No thanks my little princess.

*Alison and Rachael both leave the room*

In the hospital cafe, Alison and Rachael talk about their families

Rachael: Mum was the one that wanted to go to Samoa. She really didn't want to divorce Dad so they stayed legally married.

Alison: My mother just found out yesterday that she's four months pregnant.

Rachael: Congratulations. You now have another little brother or sister to play with.

Alison: I'm going over to Summer Bay next weekend to spend time with the family. And I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Rachael: I just hope Dad doesn't die soon enough.

Alison: *holds Rachael's hand* I'll stand beside you all the way.

Rachael: That's nice Alison. You really are a great friend. *gives Alison a hug*

On Monday morning, Mr Armstrong the principal of Civic High School is dealing with the three bullies Chris Douglas (Bully 1), Scott Brewer (Bully 2) and Thomas Bell (Bully 3)

Mr Armstrong: Your continuous bullying towards Ben Ling, Leon Longbottom, Riggot Varu and Alex Oloaga is totally unacceptable. Teachers have been telling me that not only do you threaten them on the playground but outside of school as well.

Thomas: It's only a joke!

Chris: Yeah.

Mr Armstrong: I also got a call from a teacher at the TAFE City campus saying that three of her students had no alternative but to use violence to stop you from hassling these poor kids.

Scott: *sarcastically* Boo hoo!

Mr Armstrong: I am NOT in the mood for your sarcastic sense of humour Scott. I've absolutely had it with your bullying. I'm through of giving you chance after chance. You three are expelled!

Chris: WHAT?!?

Thomas: That's a load of bull!

Mr Armstrong: I have already rung your parents to tell them about your expulsion. You are all a disgrace. Get out!

*Chris, Thomas and Scott leave Mr Armstrong's office in shame*

Meanwhile at TAFE, Lolly is welcoming four new students into her class

Lolly: I would like you to give a warm welcome to Erin Kennedy, Tevita Usaia, Jordan Graham and Amy La Porte.

Alison: They look like they're nice people.

Nour: More bloody foreigners! God I hate Australia!

Melissa: THEN RACK OFF AND GO BACK TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY NOUR!!!

*Nour returns to her work sulking while Alison has another flashback*

*Flashback to when Alison meets Amanda Greenacre on the first day of Year 11*

Amanda: Excuse me. Do you know where the gymnasium is?

Alison: You're new are you?

Amanda: Yes.

Alison: Get lost. I don't talk to new people.

Amanda: You know. You actually smell like a rotten fish.

Alison: *glares at Amanda* What did you say?

Amanda: I said you smell like a rotten fish!

Alison: Words don't harm me you moron.

Amanda: Why don't stop acting like such a bitch and actually get a life!

Alison: How dare you speak to me like that!

Amanda: Easy.

*The bell rings.*

Alison: You'll keep. I promise you that. *Alison leaves while Amanda glares at her*

*End of flashback*

Sylvia: Alison? Are you all right?

Alison: I'm fine. Just thinking that's all.

In the lunchroom at lunch, Amy and Erin sit with Alison and her friends.

Amy: Could we sit here?

Alison: Feel free.

Erin: There is no way we are sitting with that woman who hates Australia.

Melissa: Don't worry about Nour. She's got no friends that's why she's so bitter.

Sylvia: She's pure arrogant that's her problem.

Rachael: And a racist too!

Alison: What do you think of Lolly our teacher?

Erin: She is really lovely.

Amy: I've got a good nickname for Nour.

Alison: What?

Amy: Drama Queen.

Melissa: That's a good one.

*Nour walks past them*

Amy: Hey Drama Queen.

Nour: You talking to me?

Amy: You know their starting a class for racist people in Room 76. You should join that.

*Nour gets really angry and storms off while the TAFE students laugh at her*

Alison: Well done Amy. *both exchange a high five*

When TAFE has finished for the day, Alison, Melissa and Sylvia walk to the bus stop and wait for their bus. Leon, Ben, Riggot and Alex wait for them

Ben: Guess what?

Alison: What?

Ben: Those bullies are no longer going to our school.

Sylvia: Why?

Alex: Mr Armstrong expelled them for bullying us.

Melissa: At least he saw some sense in the end.

Leon: May I come over to your place Alison? I need to talk to you.

Alison: Sure.

Riggot: They got what they deserved. I just hope they get punished by their parents.

*The bus soon pulls up and Alison and her friends get on it*

When Alison gets home, she and Leon sit in the living room and talk

Alison: What do you want to talk to me about?

Leon: I feel like its my fault that Thomas, Chris and Scott got expelled.

Alison: Why?

Leon: Because on the day that they bashed Ben me and Riggot went over to Thomas and Chris and we start to attack them. We just wanted to show them what it was like to be beaten up. I should be the one to get expelled.

Alison: Leon! You and Riggot do not deserve to get expelled. You just simply defended both Alex and Ben. Have you told Mr Armstrong?

Leon: I did. And he says that we're not in any trouble. But I feel like I am in trouble.

Alison: Well don't feel like that. Okay?

Leon: Thanks Ali.

Alison: You're welcome. *gives Leon a hug*

Episode 9 - Surprises

The next morning, Alison is sitting with her friends waiting for Lolly to mark the roll when Nour enters the room

Nour: Hello you Australian pigs!

Melissa: PIGS?!? DID YOU CALL US PIGS?!?

Nour: Yes. I'm so sick of you bloody Australian people picking on me! That goes for the bloody foreigners too!

Alison: Who the hell do you think you are coming into this country and put crap on it. This is a FREE COUNTRY!

Sylvia: You don't get Medicare and other good stuff in the Middle East.

Nour: Why can't you dress like us? Why can't you live like us Arabs?

Rachael: BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO!

Alison: Yeah. Maybe we want to dress how we want!

Nour: Have you got a problem?

Alison: With you I do!

Nour: Typical Australian! Always got a problem with us Arabs! YOU ARE ALL AUSTRALIAN PIGS!!!

*Unfortunately for Nour, institute director Pamela Maddigan has overheard what Nour just said*

Pamela: Report to my office at once Miss Saleh!

*Nour leaves the room*

Alison: I think she's going to get into trouble. *to the girls* Don't you?

*Alison and her friends begin to laugh*

Sure enough, Pamela is giving Nour a lecture about her racist behaviour

Pamela: The TAFE City campus is an international friendly place. I will NOT allow racial slurs in this vicinity. Nor will I allow bullying.

Nour: You don't understand. They ignore me. Everyone here hates me. Even the teachers.

Pamela: And you wonder why?

Nour: Well that's it! I'm never coming back to this dump you call a "city campus". I quit!

Pamela: I'm sure we'll exist without you. Wait outside.

*Nour leaves Pamela's office and waits outside*

When TAFE has finished, Alison is on her way to the Oloaga's house when she hears some exciting news from Melissa

Melissa: Guess what? Nour has quit TAFE!

Alison: Are you serious?

Melissa: Yes. No more racial comments!

Alison: Good riddance!

Melissa: At least we will be able to study without her ranting and raving.

Alison: Anyway I'll see you tomorrow.

Melissa: Okay darling. *kisses Alison's cheek* Bye.

Alison: Bye.

*Alison walks two blocks before she finds the Oloaga's house. She rings the doorbell and Alex's mother Christine Lilo-Oloaga answers.*

Christine: Hello Alison. How are you sweetie?

Alison: I'm good. What about yourself?

Christine: I had Jaycob home from school with the flu. I think Bronwyn has started to show signs of it.

Alison: That's not good.

Christine: Take a seat and I'll make you a chocolate milkshake. *goes into the kitchen*

*As Christine goes into the kitchen, Alex and his two sisters Julianna and Jessica arrive home from school.

Jessica: Alison! Look at you! You are more beautiful than ever! *hugs Alison*]

Alison: Thanks Jess.

Julianna: Hello Alison. *kisses Alison's cheek*

Alison: Anna.

Alex: Honey! *hugs Alison*

Alison: How was school?

Alex: Pretty much the same.

Jessica and Julianna: BORING!!!!

Alison: TAFE's a bit boring too.

*Christine returns with the chocolate milkshakes*

Christine: Here you go kids.

Alex: Thanks Mum.

Alison: *takes a sip of her milkshake* Delicious! Better than the ones I had at the general store back in Summer Bay.

Jessica: What was wrong with them?

Alison: The owner Celia Stewart used to make chocolate milkshakes and they tasted like bloody suntan lotion!

*Alex, Julianna and Jessica laugh*

Julianna: That's funny!

Alison: It is isn't it? Where are Jeremiah, Big Ben and John-Elvis anyway.

Alex: Jeremiah's got football practice and Ben and John have gone with Dad to do the shopping.

Alison: Tell them I'm sorry I couldn't stay any longer. Send my love to them.

Alex: I will.

Alison: Bye Mrs Lilo. Thanks for the milkshake.

Christine: You're welcome honey! Take care!

Alison: Bye kids! *hugs Alex and Jessica and kisses Julianna's cheek*

Alex, Julianna and Jessica: Bye.

*Alison then leaves the house and heads home*

When Alison arrives home, there is a note from Jenny on the kitchen table

Alison,

I have gone out on another date with Brock tonight. I will be home at ten-thirty.

Jenny :)

*Alison puts the note down and decides to go to bed early*

During their date at Mario's Italian Cuisine, Brock and Jenny finish their dinner and get ready to leave

Brock: Jenny. I have something to ask you.

Jenny: What is it gorgeous?

Jenny: Well Brock. The answer is........YES!!!!!!!!!!!

*Brock puts the ring on Jenny's left index finger and they both kiss*

Alison wakes up by the sound of Jenny's car tyres crunching. She goes downstairs to wait for Jenny.

Jenny: Guess what Alison? I'm the happiest woman in the world! *shows Alison her engagement ring*

Alison: He proposed?!?

*Jenny nods her head*

Alison: OH MY GOD!!! Congratulations dear cousin! *hugs Jenny* I'm so happy for you!

Jenny: We have decided to get married in July. And it's only March now.

Alison: I'm so happy for you Jenny! I really am! *gives Jenny a hug again*

On her way to TAFE the next morning, Melissa notices a girl around 15-16 years-old kicking a dog.

Girl: Take that ya ugly mutt!

Melissa: HEY!!!! What the hell do you think you're doing?

Girl: What does it look like?

Melissa: You leave that poor dog alone!

Girl: Mind ya own bloody business ya stupid cow

*Melissa slaps the girl in the face*

Girl: Ya wanna slap me do ya? *shoves Melissa into a tree*

Melissa: To an animal abuser YES! *shoves the girl back*

*The dog then decides to bite the girl on her leg*

Girl: AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ya dirty mutt! Ya bit me! I'm outta here! *runs off*

*Melissa then goes to check on the dog*

Melissa: Are you okay buddy? That mean girl is nothing but an animal abuser. You can come with me to class.

*However when Melissa attempts to bring the dog into class, Lolly gives her a lecture*

Lolly: Animals are not allowed in the classroom.

Melissa: I'm worried she might get hurt by that vicious girl.

Lolly: I know. But I could get into trouble for having an animal in my classroom. Why don't you leave the dog out the front entrance and tie him on a leash? Okay.

Melissa: Fair enough. *goes outside to tie the dog*

*Alison is sitting with Amy La Porte and Erin Kennedy. Sylvia is at home sick while Rachael is visiting her father at the hospital*

Amy: How is Rachael?

Alison: Just about the same.

Erin: I just hope she's all right.

Alison: She will be. She's the strongest person I know.

*Melissa comes back*

Melissa: I just saved that dog from being hurt by that slag-head of a girl! Animal abusers should be locked up!

Erin: Amen! My cat died after two hooligans burnt it to death!

*Alison and Amy gasp*

Alison: You're not serious?

Erin: You bet I am! Fluffy's injuries were so serious that we had no choice but to put him down. At least those two were sent to the boys home!

Melissa: It makes me vomit when people deliberately hurt animals.

Alison: Tell me about it. By the way, I want to start a program to help people with learning disabilities stay at TAFE.

Amy: That sounds like a good idea.

Alison: I was thinking that we could have teachers aides come and help some of the students that really need help. I was also thinking that I could tutor some students here as well.

Melissa: That's good. I'm really impressed with you Alison. You should present your ideas to Mrs Maddigan.

Alison: I'll do it by the end of today.

At Civic High School, Leon and Riggot along with their friends Tyson Riordan and Catherine Tofilau talk about an upcoming tennis lesson program

Catherine: I think you should sign up guys.

Leon: You won't get me near a tennis racket. I can tell that now.

Riggot: At least give it a shot man! We'll do it together.

Tyson: Yeah Leon.

Leon: All right. I might as well give it a try. I just don't want to lose interest in football.

Tyson: You won't bro. Trust me.

Catherine: Sumara Fraser signed up for tennis lessons last year and she's now entering a tournament.

*Riggot and Leon look at each other*

Leon: We could become the best bro!

Riggot: Yeah! *high fives Leon then shakes his hand*

After school, Leon and Riggot head down to the tennis club and sign up for some tennis lessons

Leon: I just hope we excel at it!

Riggot: Me too. *gives Leon a friendly fist tap*

Alison is in Mrs Maddigan's office. She decided to stay behind and talk about her idea

Alison: So I was thinking that I could start a program to help students with learning difficulties. I could also tutor some students as well.

Pamela: That's a very good idea Alison. When do you want this program to start?

Alison: By the beginning of next week.

Pamela: I don't see why not. This could be an excellent opportunity for both the students and the staff.

Alison: Thank you so much Mrs Maddigan. I really appreciate it.

Pamela: Anytime Alison.

*Alison leaves the office*

Meanwhile at her house, Melissa is feeding her newly beloved dog when there is a knock at her door. She opens it to find the girl from this morning standing there.

Girl: I want to have a chat. Give me back my dog!

*Melissa gives her a dirty look*

Melissa: Never!
