well people finish high school at 17, so if she went to uni at 18 they can get a degree in 3 or 4 years.

Not a law degree though. A law degree takes 5 or 6 years. I suppose if she was the youngest in her year, she'd have finished her HSC at 17. She'd then be 22 in her last year of law. I'll watch the show and see if they explain it. Maybe she's meant to be some kind of whizz kid. Still, looks like an elite law firm and they're all so young to be so successful! It's TV, I guess. Will wait and see.

ABC gamble with new series Crownies

IS Crownies set in the Department of Public Prosecutions or Showgirls Bar 20?

That is the question TV viewers would have been asking themselves halfway through last night's debut episode.

There was more sex than justice in this new ABC legal drama.

Raunchy office sex and a gratuitous scene of young female solicitors stripping down to their designer lingerie were just two of the hints that Crownies was made by the team behind Underbelly.

The ABC is out to attract a younger audience. "Sex, lies and magistrates" is its aim.

Midsomer Murders this is not.

Two former Home and Away stars, Todd Lasance and Indiana Evans, head up the cast of young lawyers.

Both shine in their respective roles. Lasance is the cocky Ben McMahon and Evans as deceptively smart Tatum Novak.

Marta Dusseldorp (Paradise Road) brought just the right amount of gravitas to the part of senior prosecutor Janet King.

The first hour of the movie-length episode of Crownies was all about introducing us to the legal team.

It used an office Christmas party with a 1920s theme as an excuse to display as much female flesh as possible.

The second hour featured a storyline that labels a burqa-clad woman a "letterbox".

A witness appearing for the prosecution is instructed to remove her headdress in court.

At 22 episodes, Crownies is a big gamble for the ABC.

Last night's premiere was bolstered by interesting characters and strong performances, but lacked compelling storylines.

Time will judge whether Crownies can court Aussie viewers.
