Earthquake in Christchurch, NZ

Christchurch looks like it's just been through a war. It still feels very surreal. It's not the sort of thing that is meant to happen in your country.

It's awesome to see so many countries helping out in any way they can.

Finally got power back! Still waiting on water though... luckily I can go to my mum's place though!

I was able to go into the city today for work, but so surreal going into the office and seeing how everything was left... Even seeing the paper from that day still sitting in the staff room got me a bit teary. Makes me really proud to be a kiwi though with all the support from all over the country and the world and especially the support that the people in the city have given each other. I like John Key's words in the speech he gave just after the quake - "Your humanity is more powerful than any act of nature..." really resonates with all the acts of kindness that is going on...

I like the idea of the memorial day - but i do think we should also remember those who have been lost from past tragedies as well - ie Napier 1931. Anyone know if the Hawkes Bay has a memorial day for that? - couldn't find any info only that they have an art deco exhibition each year on Feb 3rd...

Yikes! That's a long time without power.

The memorial day is a good idea and it worked with Pike River but not so soon. They haven't even found everyone yet.
