APRIL & HEATH’S STORY

April ran into the hospital waiting room with Heath closely following behind her, she spotted Irene pacing back and forth, with her hands shaking uncontrollably.

“Irene, what’s happening? Is he okay?” April asked.

“April, love, how did you get here?” Irene asked giving the girl a comforting hug.

“Heath drove me.”

Irene gave Heath a concerned stare but quickly returned her gaze back to April, Heath stepped closer to hear the two but kept his distance.

“He’s in with the Doctor now…” Irene shook her head and looked back at Heath. “I don’t get what happened. I didn’t see him get hit.”

“I swear I didn’t hit him.” Heath gave Irene a sympathetic look. “I pulled him away from Casey and pushed him back but I didn’t mean to hurt him, I actually like the kid.”

“We will know more when the Doctor comes out.” April told them both.

“Irene?” Barry rushed towards her looking concerned. “What’s happened?”

“The Doctor’s with him now.” April answered for her. “We’ll know more soon.”

“You said on the phone he had some kind of fit?” Barry pushed for more information.

Irene wiped the sweat off her brow, her hand that was shaking vigorously.

“You should sit down, you don’t look good…” Heath kindly suggested to her. “…Have a water!”

“I think I need something stronger then water.” Irene said under her breath.

“I’ll get you a coffee?” April asked being the only one that heard her.

“Why don’t the two of us go Irene?” Barry suggested. “Go out for some fresh air? I’m sure April will come get us when the Doctor comes.”

Irene looked to April who nodded and Irene reluctantly went with Barry.

Heath took a deep breath and then sat down on one of the seats. April watched him as he fidgeted on the uncomfortable chair. She walked over and sat down next to him.

“You really are worried for him.”

Heath looked at April and scoffed. “You look surprised.”

“Well you don’t really know him.”

Heath glared at April and shook his head. “I probably know him better then you…” He then muttered under his breath. “I use to be him.”

April turned her attention to the ceiling and began counting every speck of dirt that she could see while doing this she unwittingly scratched at her hand.

“What’s it to you anyway?” Heath questioned. “You jealous or something?”

“You see that’s the thing about you guys, you always think that everyone’s either scared of you or in love with you.” April laughed. “Guess you are just like Paul.”

“What’s this ‘You Guys’ ****? Like you are better.”

“Well I am.” April shook her head. “When I have a problem with someone I don’t just hit them.”

“No…” Heath made sure April could hear him. “…You just put them down with your ‘I’m so much better then you’ words.” He put his face close to her ear. “Emotional manipulation.”

“Wow.” April smiled. “You actually know how to say that word. I’m impressed.”

“So, what are you?”

April shrugged. “Well apparently I’m an emotional manipulator.”

“No I mean…” Heath smiled flirtatiously. “Are you scared of me?”

April shook her head.

“So you’re in love with me.”

April gave him a look to show her disgust of him which made him laugh but then she started to moan.

“What’s up?” Heath asked with a little bit of concern.

“Nothing just a cramp.” April held onto her stomach and let out a big groan.

“Haha…” Heath giggled. “I should have known you were PMSing.”

If April could pull her disgusted face again she would have but she was in a bit of pain, she let out another groan to which Heath stood up.

“Are you okay? Can you stand?” Heath put out his hand and helped her up to which he then looked down and placed his hand on her shoulder, trying to push her back down.

“What are you doing?”

“Don’t say anything…” Heath whispered. “…Just sit back down.”

April ignored his advice and looked down at her seat which was wet with blood. “What the..?”

“What do you want me to do?”

“Just go away.” April told him, she sat back down quickly.

“Do you want me to get something?”

“Yeah…” April nodded. “The Doctor.”

APRIL & HEATH’S STORY

April shook her head at Doctor Sid Walker in disbelief and began to cry.

“What happens now?” April asked trying to control herself.

“Well you have a few options…” Sid began to look disapprovingly to his son’s best friend. “We can let the miscarriage continue to progress naturally, which because you were fourteen weeks along, I highly recommend you take the other option…”

“Fourteen weeks?” April shook her head. “How did I not know I was fourteen weeks pregnant?” She collapsed into her hands.

Sid was thinking about giving the girl a possible explanation but bit his tongue.

April again tried hard to take control. “What was the other option?”

“The other option is to end the pregnancy surgically which would be a lot safer as there is a lower risk of an infection.”

April looked over to the bedside table where Sid had left April’s folder and a pen.

“Irene and Bianca don’t know you are in here do they?”

April shook her head but never took her eyes off the bedside table.

“And Heath Braxton is waiting outside.” Sid waited for a response. “You need to talk to someone about this, April.”

“Heath Braxton?” April giggled before leaning over to straighten up the folder and then neatly placed the pen on top. “When you going to cut this thing out of me?”

“April?” Sid stepped closer to her bedside. “Would you like me to organise a counsellor to come see you?”

April shook her head. “I think that pain thing you gave me is starting to work. I might just get some sleep.”

“I’ll organise a time for you to see the specialist.” Sid picked up April’s folder and left the room he walked out into the waiting room and noticed his son standing by the reception desk. “Dex, what are you doing here?”

Dex pointed to the leaking bandage on his nose. “I think I pulled out one of the stitches.”

Sid place April’s folder down and pulled up the bandage. “How did you manage that?”

“I was scratching at it.”

“Why?”

“Uh duh…” Dex rolled his eyes. “…Because it was itchy.”

Sid reattached the bandaged. “Well you are going to have to wait a bit.”

“Who could possibly be more important then your own son…?” Dex looked down at the folder and saw his best friend’s name. “…April?” Dex looked at Sid with concern. “Is she okay?”

“…None of your business.” Sid picked up the folder and began to walk away. “She’s resting and doesn’t want to be disturbed.”

April was reorganising the contents of the drawer beside her bed when she heard a knock she looked at the door and Heath cautiously walked in.

“How are you?” Heath asked in a concerned tone.

“I’m super…” April faked a bubbly voice. “…Free abortion, yayness!”

“Sorry, stupid question.” Heath stepped closer towards her. “Do you want me to beat up that blond guy for doing this to you?”

“No.” April shook her head. “It wasn’t even him that did it, it was a guy named René from when I was staying in France.”

“France? How romantic.” Heath taunted.

“**** off!”

“Woah…” Heath laughed. “Touchy…” He pushed closed the drawer for her and leaned over the bed and smiled. “When I was in a similar situation everyone was walking on eggshells around me not knowing what to say so I thought you may have appreciated some normalnacy.” Hen then chuckled. “Yes I know what normalnacy means as well.”

“Normalcy…” April corrected. “What kind of similar situation?”

Heath’s charming smile quickly disappeared and he then looked away from April. “It doesn’t matter…”

April picked up on Heath’s own touchiness. “Well if it’s too painful for you to talk about, if it upsets you too much.”

“You know what you little hypocritical bitch why don’t you just **** off?”

“My hospital room.”

“Yeah your hospital room, your drama, it’s all about you, I’ve been in here for like five minutes and you haven’t even asked about Paul.”

“Yeah…” April nodded. “How is Paul?”

“How the **** should I know?” Heath laughed. “…Still waiting on the Doctor, and if you wondering all I said to them was that you went off with Ruby.”

“Why Ruby?”

“I don’t know any of your other friend’s names… Well I know Casey’s name but it’d be weird for me to say you were with him they might think you were having some kind of thing going on unless you were with him and Ruby but then again that might seem like you were having some kind of threesome…”

“I’m sure they’re not going to think I’d do that.”

“Well you did get pregnant to some guy in France.”

April laughed and this time didn’t have to fake it. “So what similar situation were you in?”

“Well…” Heath took a deep breath. “…I was a few years younger then you and I got my girlfriend at the time pregnant. When she told me about it, I don’t know I guess I had that much of a ****ed up childhood that I was so excited that I would get to have a family of my own and I was going to get it right. You know?” Heath chuckled shortly to himself. “I even bought her some like stuffed toys and ****…” Heath’s smile then faded. “One day I found out that she got four hundred bucks from mum and got him terminated.”

“That sucks. I’m sorry.” April placed her hand on Heath’s.

“Well I feel bad for mum, she gave her four hundred and the abortion only cost two.” Heath grabbed onto April’s hand he looked at her and leaned down to give her a hug.

Dexter was reading Girlfriend magazine, still waiting to be seen to by his father when he spotted Xavier walking into the hospital.

Xavier walked up to the reception desk and gave the girl a smile. “I was looking for…”

“Xav?” Dex put the magazine down and walked over to his friend.

“Dex? What’s going on?”

“One of my stiches needs replacing.” Dex showed Xavier he’s wound. “Are you here to see April?”

“April?”

* * *

April began crying and Heath came in closer to let her tears fall onto his broad shoulder, April then separated from him and looked him in the eyes to give him an appreciative smile. They both then heard the door open and looked to see Xavier standing there looking at them in the compromising position they had ended up putting themselves in.

Woah at most of that.April is having a miscarriage, I'm actually kind of glad the baby wasn't Xav's in a weird kind of way, that would be too hard on him.Heath showing a hint of his sensitive side. And uh-oh at that ending...

Nice to see Heath being caring, I think he's got a soft centre under all that toughness. A good thing Xavier walked in then though, I don't want Heath and April to get carried away.

I'm also glad the baby wasn't Xave's, I bet he would be excited if he was a father so glad he isn't.

Really sad chapter though :( Great story Perry.
