Carina, no it isn't 24/7... sometimes you let me sleep without texting me...

Here is Chapter 3....

An unhappy Dex staggered out of his bedroom and moved through the house until he was able to collapse on a chair at the table. He didn’t even have the excuse that George had kept him awake to blame for the dark circles round his eyes and the feeling that he had only had a couple hours sleep. He looked around seeing his Dad trying to ignore a sulking Indi who was no doubt trying not to be impressed at the texts she was getting from loserboy; or if she and Romeo had made up, then loverboy. Well whatever, last nights storm had wiped his hard drive and burnt those notes he had carefully constructed. There was no way of getting that information back and no one who would believe him anyway.

Well, maybe one person. In the whole of Summer Bay there was one person he could count on. One person he could turn to. Perhaps if he were to tell April she would believe him. She was so great at the campaigning stuff that maybe she would help get the word across to everybody. He sighed as he thought of April, an even goofier expression than normal landed on his face and he tilted his head to one side resting it on his hand as he thought of her.

“Earth to Dex.” Sid called out to his son.

“What ..oh.” Dex came back from the daydream he was having about April that did not involve either of them running along the beach hand in hand. At all.

“Where is your head at?” Indi muttered looking at the screen of her phone and frowning. She pressed a few buttons and scowled some more before putting it to one side and looking up. “Don’t ask.” She told everyone.

“Yes well.” Sid muttered folding up his newspaper and putting it flat on the table. “I thought it would be a good idea if we had a nice meal tonight.”

“Not if Indi’s cooking.” Dex muttered.

“Hey.” Indi gasped out glaring at her brother.

He settled down in his chair folding his arms across his chest and looked at her.

“It will be at Angelo’s.” Sid told them interrupting an argument before it started which was usually the best course of action with his kids.

“Fine, what time?” Dex muttered. “I’ve got things to do.”

“Like upload more things to your loser blog.” Indi said under her breath.

”Indi.” Sid cautioned looking sternly at his daughter.

She looked back meeting his gaze unflinchingly.

“Yes well,” he muttered and brushed down his shirt before standing. “I want you to be home and ready to go for 7 tonight.” He said giving them both a look.

“Dad.” Dex murmured standing up.

“Not now Dex I have to get to work.” Sid said looking at his watch. “In fact I’m already late.”

Dex slunk back into his seat placing his head back in his hands as both his Dad and Marilyn left, with baby George in tow.

“What’s up?” Indi asked after a few moments.

“My computer is fried.” He said dejectedly.

“Oh. the powercut?” she murmured tossing a lock of her blonde hair over her shoulder. “Apparently it took out most of the Bay.”

He gave her a stern look that was only spoilt by the sudden realisation that his homework was also on the laptop.

“Crap.” He muttered. “Crap crap crap.”

“What is it?” Indi asked standing up and pouring out another coffee for herself. She looked at her brother and took pity on him and filled a cup for him passing it silently across the big table.

“The powercut ate my homework.” He announced burying his face in his hands.

Sometime later he was walking along the beach, which may or not have been the same beach he had fantasised he’d been on with April earlier and sighed as he felt the hot sand under his feet. He wriggled his toes in it before stopping and looking out at the sea. He wondered how it would start, maybe a tsunami or a volcanic eruption. He could visualise the cloud of ash interfering with the Eco system in such a way it would make plastic bottles effect on the environment seem like… he frowned as his brain couldn’t construct an analogy. Maybe that was how it started, smart people suddenly became dumb.

“What’s up with you?” Xavier asked coming towards him.

Dex bit back the smile on his face at the timing of the other man’s arrival. Of course Xavier wasn’t, well dumb, but he was blond like Indi, and he did just care about girls and surfing.

“Nothing my friend I was just thinking about this wonderful day.” Dex said with a half-grin.

“Er…” Xavier muttered with a frown.

He looked up into the sky seeing a smattering of clouds marring the perfect blue before glancing at the swirling sea rolling up and on to the beach like a primal offering. The red flags were out telling people not to be in the water today, hence his being here talking to a rather stranger than normal Dex.

“If you say so.” He murmured.

“I know what you are thinking. You are wondering just what is up with me aren’t you?” Dex began. “I can tell but it’s this. The end of the world.”

“Dex?” Xavier said slowly, wondering if he should step back and away from the other man before he caught this new strain of weirdness.

“I worked it all out yesterday. I had notes, pages and pages of notes and I had post its and data and I was putting it all on my blog to get the information out there where people could see it and kaboom.” Dex muttered twisting his lips derisively and he waved his hands about to emphasise the ‘kaboom’ part of his sentence. It would perhaps have been better if he hadn’t been holding his shoes in one hand and hit himself in the face with them.

“Oh my god Dex!” April cried out, catching sight of the two boys standing on the beach she ran over to where they were standing. Reaching into the pocket on her balloon type skirt and puled out a handkerchief passing that over to Dex as he valiantly tried not to faint at the sight of his own blood.

“Head up and hold it.” Xavier murmured before looking at April.

“It saves on the environment.” She began knowing that Xavier was going to ask about the handkerchief. “You don’t put paper ones in the rubbish or even worse flush excess ones down the toilet.” She didn’t explain that she liked the frilly pink lace around the edge or that she enjoyed ironing them because that would be to admit her strangeness. She frowned before catching Dex and Xavier looking at her and blushed as she realised she had gone into her own little folded and organised universe.

“Er..” Dex muttered trying to bring them back on topic.

“Well according to Dexter here, the world is doomed anyway.” Xavier said with just the merest hint of sarcasm in his voice.

“Doomed?” April asked.

Xavier nodded.

“Kaboom.” He said miming an explosion with his hands.

Dex had to give it to him, the other man could mime pretty good and well the whole not smacking himself in the nose with his own shoes had to be a bonus on the miming front.

“Is this anything to do with your blog last night?” April asked slowly.

“You saw it?” Dex asked her sounding hopeful.

“Well a little bit of it.” April told him in her sweet little voice. He forced himself back from the mini fantasy he was about to have about her to hear her say. “It wasn’t up for long.”

Xavier sniggered and looked at Dex as he blushed.

“Yes well the power went out.” Dex protested ignoring Xavier knowing that the other man would be trying to make that into an innuendo too.

“So what is going to happen?” April asked.

“I don’t’ know.” Dex admitted. “The end of the world. Doom. Gloom. Justin Bieber turning out gay, Glee being turned into a movie, Brad and Angelina splitting up, cats liking dogs. The usual apocalyptic stuff.”

“What?” Xavier muttered touching his fringe awkwardly.

“Yeah, that’s right the Beibs is gay.” Dex told him reaching out and placing his free hand on Xavier’s shoulder. “You have a gay mans haircut.”

“This is serious.” April cried.

“Oh yes, millions of girls will be heartbroken but it’s true.” Dex said looking over at Xavier.

“Will you stop that.” Xavier cried touching a hand to his hair again.

“Dex where did you get your information?” April asked ignoring the two men trying to outstare each other.

“It doesn’t matter. My notes are gone I can’t prove anything.” Dex murmured mournfully. “The only good thing that has come out of this is I finally got to tell Xavier how girly his haircut is.”

“Hey!” Xavier cried out.

“Looks lets go get a coffee.” April told them both waving her hand over to the diner.

Dex glanced at the sea before nodding and beginning his walk to the diner. He stopped after a minute and ran back to collect his discarded shoes before catching up with the other two.

“Maybe we can figure out this stuff again.” Xavier said quietly sensing how important this was to Dex.

“I don’t know.” Dex muttered.

“There has to be a way.” April added.

“I appreciate the attempt to cheer me up but…” Dex began.

“Hey I’m not trying to cheer you up I’m trying to stop the end of the world.” Xavier told him.

Dex titled his head to one side as he scanned Xavier remark for sarcasm. He saw Xavier give him a quick grin before they walked into the diner.

“So if you are helping me does this mean you are part of my gang?” Dex asked slowly.

“Gang?” Xavier asked slowly steering them to an empty table at the back. “I think we can be cooler than be a gang. How about a….”

“Don’t say collective.” April warned flashing a smile at Dex. “Or we’ll have to put up with Star Trek references.”

“Well anyway back to the topic at hand my little co-conspirators. The end of the world.” Dex said quietly. “And how we are going to stop it.”
