Aww I like that Ruby isn't forgetting about her adoptive family. I think its good that she wants to have some sort of a relationship with Charlie but still wants to stay with her adoptive parents though!

Chapter 30

Ruby lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. Contemplating what her family would say to her after she told them about meeting Charlie. She was so sure she wanted then all to meet, so she could find a way of keeping Charlie in her life as well as inculding her family with that part of her. But doubt soon filled her head; there was still so much about Charlie she didn't know, and Charlie didn't know much about her. Ruby was brought out of her thoughts by the vibration coming from her phone

"Hello? Case! Oh my gosh I never rung you. How are you? And Brax?" Ruby rubbed her forehead; how could she forget to call Casey after all he did to help her? not only after the fight but whilst she was searching for Charlie?

As Ruby listened to what Casey was saying, downstairs her family were sat in the the front room, talking about what Ruby had asked. Dan and Issy still looked as shocked as they did when Ruby first said something about it.

"I knew we would have to face this at some point, so I've prepared myself for it" Paul looked to Sally as he spoke "But what do you two kids make of it?"

"We have been at school whilst Ruby has spent her time looking for Charlotte?" Sally nodded as Dan asked the question "Is she gonna be a detective when she leaves

school? You only told her like, two weeks ago" Dan replied

"Is she serious though?" Issy asked "I mean, you and dad have more of a reason to keep in contact with Charlotte, why does RUby want her to meet me and Dan?"

"Because we are amazing" Dan replied, looking to Issy and smiling

"I mean it. We have nothing to do with Charlotte, all we are to her is the siblings of the daughter she gave up" Issy replied "I know how that sounds and I know things are more complicated than I'm making them out to be but-"

"You are Ruby's brother and sister. She wants you to be apart of this new part of her life with Charlie" Sally replied as she took one of Dan's hands and one of Issy's. "I've always thought your dad and I have been blessed with having three kids who actually get along with each other. And when Ruby said she wanted you to meet Charlie, well"

Sally smiled

"I get that she wants us to be apart of her life, but its not just her life" Dan argued "Charlie has nothing to do with us"

"Dan please-" Sally looked to her son

"No mum, I love Ruby to bits, she's my little sister and I'd do anything for her; but not play happy families with Charlie when I have nothing to do with her" Dan rose to his feet and left the room, tears formed in Sally's eyes as she looked to her eldest daughter

"And what about you? Do you feel the same way as your brother?" Sally asked

"I don't know" Issy shook her head "Charlie is Ruby's mum, she's part of Ruby and so are us four. I can see why Ruby wants us to meet and get to know each other but at

the same time, I don't know"

"Sweetie, you don't have to meet Charlie if you don't want to. You and Dan don't have to" Paul said "Ruby just wanted to include you in this"

"I know she did, but, at the minute, I don't think I can meet Charlie" Issy replied, shaking her head "Sorry"

"You have nothing to be sorry about" Sally said as she placed a kiss on Issy head, looking to Paul and wondering how they were going to tell Ruby.

Charlie walked into the diner, fidgiting perfusily as she looked around. All around her were alien; for the last few days she had been at the hospital, only leaving to get some fresh clothes from the house she felt was no longer hers. The surf club was still closed as Police were still finishing off gathering the evidence they needed to place the two men who started the crowd fight behind bars. People stared at Charlie as she sat down close to the wall. She still had a few marks on her from the fight, which was the most likliest if reasons for the stares, but it still made her feel uncomfortable.

She smiled softly when she felt Bianca's hand in her's; a source of comfort to her. Charlie had relied so much on Bianca over the last week, and had no idea when she wouldn't need Bianca there for her, or how she would ever repay her.

"Don't look so worried Charlie" Bianca said as she looked to her friend "They're-"

"Not use to seeing me I know" Charlie finished "Still doesn't mean I like been stared at though" Charlie added as she looked to Bianca

"It'll die down" Bianca assured Charlie "and the attention wont be on you when Angelo or Brax are back in the bay; those two will be the talk of the town for however long

Colleen can keep going on about it" Bianca smiled

"Oh god Colleen" Charlie's voice filled with dread "I never even thought once about her" Charlie ran her hands through her hair and sighed

"Your mind is wandering again, isn't it?" Bianca asked

"I can't help it" Charlie replied "One of them is the father, I have no idea who. Angelo is the one who arranged the fight and if I'm having his baby, I'm sure Colleen will find a way of reminding me constantly that the baby's father is a thug" Charlie mimicked Colleen's voice as she spoke, Bianca couldn't help but raise a smile on her face "And if

Brax is the dad, she'll find a way of calling me a slut -cos, let's face it; I am. I'm with one man, and I sleep with another"

"But its not that simple Charlie" Bianca put in "Everyone knows how unhappy Angelo makes you and how much Brax make you happy. If Colleen is the only one who thinks that, I'm sure Alf and Roo will put her back in her box; remeber when Colleen said about Liam and how much he couldn't change because of what happened with his wife?"

"Once a cheater always a cheater" Charlie replied, once again mimicking Colleen's voice. Bianca and Charlie fell into fits of laughter and could barely speak, Colleen saw the two women laughing from the kitchen and she picked up her pad and pen and made her way to the table where the two laughing women were sat

"What can I get you ladies?" Colleen asked as she looked closely to Charlie and Bianca, trying to suss out what had made them laugh so

"Erm" Bianca tried to speak whilst calming herself down "Can I just have some chips please? and a frothy coffee please"

"And what about you Charlie?" Colleen asked as she looked to Charlie, who had managed to contain her giggles

"Can I have an Orange juice, and a big piece of the ruhbarb crumble with some custard please?" Charlie replied, suddenly feeling really hungry

"I'll be right right back" Colleen smiled, rushing off to the kitchen with their order

"Big piece?" Bianca repeated "Take it then sickness hasn't reared its ugly head"

Charlie shook her head "I'm hoping it never does. I hate been sick"

"Don't we all" Bianca replied as Colleen walked over with their drinks and placed them on the table. Bianca was expecting Colleen to hang around for a moment or two, but

was surprised when Colleen returned to the kitchen "Colleen must have turned over a new leaf" Bianca sounded surprised

"Why you so shocked? People change" Charlie replied

"Not Colleen Smart" Bianca replied "Or Angelo Rosetta for that matter"

"Am I crazy for wanting to be rid of him?" Charlie asked

"Why would you ask that?" Bianca asked, nearly choking on her coffee

"I mean, look what I've got with him; a house, a life, a possible baby, I've been with him for ten years, I have security with him" Charlie listed the pros of been with Angelo

"See, I don't see any of that. All I see is; eight years of you been unhappy, trapped, turning to alcohol way too many times, no smiles from you unless you are way way far away from him, a life which has to be oked by Angelo, a house which you hate been in and the security is the fact that you always have one of his henchman stood at the door" Bianca listed the cons "That's not a life, that's not anything. People in prison are treated better"

Charlie was about to speak once more but Bianca halted her when she saw Colleen walking toward them with their food "Thank you Colleen" Charlie and Bianca said whern their food was placed in front of them

"You're welcome" Colleen clasped her hands together and rested them infront of her "Not that it isn't nice to see you Charlie, but, I would have thought you would have been at the hospital with Angelo. Although I don't agree with what he did to the poor souls in the club"

"I've been at the hospital everyday since the fight happened Colleen. Its not heathtly to sit and wait in a hospital" Charlie replied

"But still. It must be hard been the girlfriend of a man who would cause so much distruction. Two teenagers were hurt in that fight. What on earth were two teenagers doing in a club is what I want to know. And why didn't Angelo do anything about it? and why was he fighting with customers anyway? serves him right I suppose, getting injured and all"

"Colleen-" Charlie began

"What will tourists think? Oh my days! They'll never want to come here becasue of your boyfrriend's ridiculous business ideas"

"That is enough now Colleen" Bianca shouted as she saw Charlie close to breakdown "I think you'd said enough now"

"I was only voicing what I thought"

"I think stealth is a word you need to learn" Bianca retorted, anrgy at the woman for bringing Charlie back down to the place Bianca hated seeing her "You okay?" Bianca asked as she turned to her friend, sheilding her face form the stares of Colleen, who tutted before she walked back to the kitchen, unaware that Leah and Irene had witnessed Colleen's actions

"Don't you think she has been through enough Colleen?" Irene asked as she used the spoon she was holding to point at her "You have no idea what that poor girl has gone through, leave her alone and don't talk about Angelo or the fight to her. Look what it has done to her" Irene pointed out of the kitchen and to Charlie, who had now pushed the plate of food away from infront of her and just stared at it

"I was only saying what I thought" Colleen said once more, shying away like a naughty school girl been told off

"They are ways of doing it" Leah said "And the way you did it isn't the way"

Bianca rubbed Charlie's arm comfortingly as Charlie began to pick at her pie "I don't think I can handle much else right now" Charlie said as she looked to Bianca

"Its a little late for that: you spoke too soon" Bianca replied as she looked to the door "Isn't that Ruby?"

Charlie looked over to where Bianca was looking before looking back to Bianca quickly "Yea it is" Charlie confirmed with a smile on her face

"She's gorgeous" Bianca smiled "Big eyes, just like you said" Bianca noticed Charlie had tears coming down her face "Hey, what's these for?"

"This is going to sound so horrible, but I don't think I can talk to her tonight. After what Colleen said about Angelo, all of this" Charlie looked to her stomach briefly before looking back up "I'm just drained" Charlie placed her hand over her forehead and shook her head

"I don't think you have a choice" Bianca whispered as she saw Ruby and Casey walk over to the table

"Hi Charlie" Ruby smiled as she looked to Charlie "I haven't bothered you at a bad time have I?" Ruby asked, noticing the plates on the table and the half drank drinks just an arms reach away

"No. We were just talking" Charlie replied as she smiled to Ruby

"Oh okay" Ruby smiled before looking to Casey "Oh, Charlie. This is Casey"

"Hi Case-" Charlie began but recognised the name "Casey? As In Brax's younger brother Casey?" Charlie asked

"Yea I'm that Casey" Casey smiled feeling slightly emabarrased over the fact that someone knew him and he didn't even know "Wait a minute. Charlie. You're Angelo's bird aren't you? the one who hates been with him and who Brax has been seeing?" Casey asked, pointing to her as he placed the name

"Yea, I'm that Charlie" Charlie replied "I am sorry about Brax"

"Thanks. But he's gonna make it; he has to. I don't think Heath could take care of use like Brax can" Casey smiled at the last part of what he said.

"I'm confused. How do you two know each other?" Ruby asked. Bianca bit her lip and looked around as Casey and Charlie looked to each other before looking back to Ruby

"I -erm, Angelo and I are sort of together but not really" Charlie began "And Brax works for him and we have a close friendship"

"Its a little more than a close relationship" Casey laughed "He wont shut up about you at home sometimes"

Charlie looked away from Casey, feeling her face redden from embarrasement. Bianca saw the look on Charlie's face and knew it was only a matter of time before the

'close relationship' was more common knowledge.

"So, Angelo was the one who got your brother in the hospital?" Ruby asked

"Yea" Charlie and Casey answered at the same time

"So, why are you still sort of with Angelo but sort of not?" Ruby asked as she took a seat next to Bianca

"It's complicated" Charlie replied

"Oh, you don't want to go into it now?" Ruby picked up on Charlie's uncomfortableness "I'm sorry. I'm just, I guess I've realised there is so much about you I don't know and I just wanted to start and find out" Ruby began "But I have to realise that you have your own life and things in it could be complicated" Ruby sighed "Can we meet up and just, spend the day together?" Ruby asked, looking to Charlie who smiled with a teary glaze in her eyes

"Are you sure you are thirteen?" Charlie asked, wincing slightly as she felt a pain in her stomach

"You tell me" Ruby smiled "So, is that a yes?"

"Yes, its a yes. We've got thirteen years to catch up on" Charlie smiled to Ruby, who smiled back at her

"I'm Bianca by the way" Bianca piped up after realising she had been missed from the introduction "Charlie's oldest friend"

"Hi. I'm Ruby" Ruby replied

"Nice to finally meet you" Bianca smiled as she looked to Ruby, who looked so much like Charlie when Charlie first came to the bay, it was scary.

"My mum has your number, I'll ring you tomorrow sometime if that's okay?" Ruby said as she rose to her feet

"Yea that's fine" Charlie replied, trying to not show she was in discomfort "Ruby" Charlie said just before Ruby got too far away "Its nice to see you" She smiled as Ruby turned to face her, returning the smile Charlie gave to her.

"She's so mature for a thirteen year old" Bianca said in awe as she watched Casey and Ruby walk out of the diner "Sally and Paul have done a fan-" Bianca broke off what she was saying when she looked to Charlie, who's breathing was that of someone in pain "Charlie?" Bianca panicked "Charlie, what's wrong?" Bianca rushed to Charlie's side

"It-I" Charlie breathed out sharply "I just need to walk it off, that's all"

"Are you sure?" Bianca asked "I think I should get you to a doctor" Bianca said as clutched her stomach using her right hand, trying to hide away from Colleen's prying eyes. Bianca followed Charlie closely as she stopped just off the steps leadsing to the diner, the pain overcoming her causing her to stop a minute. "Charlie" Bianca put her hands on Charlie's shoulders "Charlie come one, hospital" Charlie nodded her head, she could fight and say no anymore; the pain was too much and she wanted to know if there was something wrong with her baby.

Great update. Kinda understandable about Dan and Issy not wanting to meet Charlie. Poor Charlie Stupid Colleen. Oh no the ending! Hope they baby is okay!

Chapter 31

Charlie sat up after wiping the gel off her stomach and pulling her top back over her stomach. She looked to the doctor who wiped the probe from gel before placing it in the holder on the ultrasound machine. Bianca sat beside Charlie, ready to take her hand if the news was bad.

"Is everything alright?" Charlie asked as she put her hand on her side as a small pain wave washed over her

"Everything is fine; the baby's heartbeat is good, its a good size" The doctor smiled

"So why is she doubling over then?" Bianca asked, frustrated with not knowing what was wrong

"The stomach cramps you've been expericing is just your uterus and ligaments streching and preparing for the pregnancy" She explained "I read in your notes that this is your second pregnancy; didn't you have these with your first?"

"To be honest I don't remember. I was fourteen and I didn't find out until the second trimester" Charlie replied

"Ahh. So you missed these symptons" The doctor nodded "Well, unfortunately there is nothing I can do to stop the pain; I wouldn't advise painkillers of any kind unless you can barely walk; warm baths should help and heat buddies too" She smiled

"So there is nothing Charlie should be worried about? Its nothing that's going to affect the baby further on in the pregnancy?" Bianca asked

"No. The uterus preparing for pregnancy only affects the mother. Baby will just think there has been an extension built" the doctor smiled

"Thank you" Charlie smiled, feeling the relief fill her

"You're welcome" she replied "Is there anything else you want to ask me whilst we're here?"

Charlie looked to Bianca who nodded her head "from the scan, are you able to figure out what date my baby was concieved?" Charlie asked, hoping the doctor wouldn't question her asking

"Well, you're seven weeks, judging on the size of the baby" she began "But as for the date-"

"If you don't know thats fine, I was just, I was curious" Charlie lied

"3rd or 4th of June" The doctor continued, just as the beeper in her pocket went off "I'm sorry, but I'm needed in SCBU. If there is anything else you are worried about or just want to ask me anything to prepare yourself further, just pop in and see at reception about booking an appointment" The doctor smiled "I must go now"

"Thank you" Charlie smiled as the doctor walked out of the room

"So? Do you know who the dad is then?" Bianca asked, knowing why Charlie asked if the doctor could tell her which date the baby was concieved

"No" Charlie shook her head "If she said one date I'd know. But she said two dates"

"I'd go with the first date, more likely to have made the baby then" Bianca replied and Charlie bit her lip, making Bianca slightly worried "Angelo. You slept with Angelo first

didn't you"

"Yea" Charlie replied "If I didn't he'd want to know why I would sleep with him; he never put a condom on and, I don't know" Charlie banged her fists on the bed in frustration "Then it was Brax after we had had a heart to heart and then Angelo wanted a repeat" tears formed in her eyes "I just don't know. But twice with Angelo in a short space of time; the baby is his" Charlie sounded defeated; something Bianca didn't like to hear in her voice

"We don't know anything for certain yet" Bianca began "When the baby is born it could look like one of them"

"But what happens if the baby is Brax's and Angelo sees the resemblance?" Charlie asked

"I'll be visiting you and Brax in the cemetary" Bianca smiled

"Its not funny Bee" Charlie hit Bianca softly on the arm "I'm gonna have to hide the fact I'm pregnant until they can tell me when I'm due; then I can work it out from there" Charlie added as she stood from the bed and made her way to the door

"How you going to figure that out?" Bianca asked

"By counting three months forward and one week back" Charlie answered

"That works?" Bianca asked

"Seems too" Charlie replied

"Let me try it" Bianca smiled as she figured it out "Valentines Day. Not bad" Bianca smiled "What about you?"

Charlie avoided the question by opening the door to the room and stood in the corridor, waiting for Bianca to follow "What are you going to do now?"

"I was going to take you home, but you seem to want to do something else" Bianca replied

"I was going to see Brax. I just, I have this feeling that something is going to happen to one of them; I don't want to not be here when something does" Charlie replied

"You go home though, you have a wedding to plan"

"Charlie-"

"I'll be fine. You go, see Liam. I'm sure he's missing you" Charlie smiled

"You call me when you find out anything" Bianca hugged Charlie as she spoke

"I will. See you later" Charlie replied, pulling away from Bianca

Ruby returned home after talking with Casey about Charlie and Brax. Casey had -unconciously- spent a little more time getting to know Charlie, and now Ruby had been grilling him for anything about her that Brax had said to him. All she had heard from Casey was how unhappy Charlie was with Angelo, and how much she wanted to be away from that part of her life.

Ruby felt happy in knowing that she was slowly finding out more and more about Charlie, even though she was been told second and third hand and not from Charlie herself. Ruby still found talking to Charlie really hard to do; not only because they barely knew each other, but because Ruby could sense there was more to Charlie's past and Ruby's beginning than met the eye, and she was worried it would drive a wedge between her and Charlie if Ruby pushed too hard to find out what it was. She heard the chattering voices of her mum and dad coming from the lounge. She couldn't hear Issy or dan and figured they were at a friends house. Opening the door to the lounge, ruby was immediately ushered in and sat on the couch, close to Sally and Paul

"I'm not in trouble am I?" Ruby asked

"No" Paul smiled "Erm, but we have been speaking to Dan and Issy-"

"Its okay. I think I know what you are going to say" Ruby butted in "It was stupid of me for wanting them to meet Charlie so soon after meeting her myself. Its too soon

and I get that it will be really awkward for Dan and Issy to mee Charlie; I think it will be weird for her too" Ruby looked to Sally and Paul simutaneously as she spoke "I just saw Charlie in the diner earlier and she knew Casey. Then Case and I have been talking and, I-, I just know that it will be a few months before the possibility of them been in the same room is here"

"Ruby-" Paul began

"Dad, don't worry. I'm fine and I just hope I haven't made Dan and Issy hate me"

"They don't hate you darling. They just, they-"

"Don't think its right for them to meet her" Ruby said and Sally and Paul nodded "Yea"

Heath threw himself on the couch infront of the TV with a beer in his hand. The sound of satifaction couming from his mouth after the cool beer ran down his throat. Casey sat on the chair opposite, watching his older brother settle himself down for the night.

"Heath" Casey looked to Heath who slowly turned to face his little brother "Do you think mum would come to the hospital with us tomorrow if we asked her?"

"Nah" Heath shook his head "I told her Brax was in just after we got home from the fight and she didn't move. Well she moved, but to get a ciggie" Heath took another swig of beer "Don't worry about it mate. She'll come to the hospital in her own time. dad died in the hospital and since then she's hated going to the hospital" Heath looked to the

TV briefly before looking back to Casey "She's hated going anywhere but you know what I mean"

"Yea" Casey nodded "What time we off tomorrow then?" Casey asked

"After I've had my surf" Heath replied as he turned the TV up

Charlie walked to the corridor she knew so well; her mood changing form happy to sick to nervous as she got closer to the doors. lowering herself into the chair, she placed her hand on her stomach; looking to the doors infront of her and wondering which man was the father to her unborn baby.

Two doctors walking from opposite ends of the corridors bypassed Charlie and entered the rooms; one doctor per room. Charlie's heart skipped a beat as she glanced quickly into one of the rooms; she recognised the chest of the man moving up and down anywhere: she had ran her hands along his toned stomach so many times, she'd traced his tatoos with her finger.

"Brax" Charlie whispered to herself as she kept her eyes on him until the door had shut. The second door opened and a nurse came to where Charlie was stood.

"Excuse me, are you Charlie Buckton?" The nurse asked Charlie, who quickly moved her hand away from her stomach and wiped the tear from her face

"Yes" Charlie replied

"Angelo wants to speak to you" The nurse smiled

"He's awake?" Charlie asked the nurse, who looked at her funny "I mean, great" Charlie added before she took a step forward and entered the room. Other than a few cuts and bruises, Angelo looked fine, no reason for him to be in the hospital for anything "Hey" Charlie said

"Charlie" Angelo replied, his voice at a whisper "I'm so...sorry for everything" Angelo held his hand out for Charlie to put hers in "for getting you involved in the fight, for making you get Brax to sign. I'm sorry. Can you forgive me?" Angelo asked

"You want me to forgive you for everything to do with the fight?" Charlie asked, making sure she had things clear in her head

"Yea" Angelo confirmed

Charlie shook her head in disbelief. Out of everything he should have been sorry for, he asked for the one thing she can easily forget "That I can, but what about everything else Angelo?"

"What do you mean?" Angelo asked

"You're never going to change are you?" Charlie asked, shaking her head

"Why would I change?" Angelo asked "I don't want to change, I want you to forgive me for the fight so we can put it behind us"

"You really think there is an us after this?" Charlie rose to her feet -a little too fast as she nearly feel back to the seat- "I hate that you put me in that position Angelo. People shouldn't have got hurt, but they did"

"I made a tonne load of cash though" Angelo smiled "And now we can happier than we've ever been" Angelo smiled, reaching for Charlie's hands that wasn't there "Charlie?"

"I can't do this anymore Angelo" Charlie shook her head as she stepped back "I can't"

"Can't do what?" Angelo asked, oblivious to the fact that Charlie was uncomfortable in the room and was dying to leave "Charlie?"

"Us. This. I don't even remember the last time we were and us. We don't have a relationship Angelo; we never have. Its always been about you; when did you ever listen to me? When did you ever think about me?" Charlie became treary-eyed as she finally told Angelo what she had been nottling up for so long

"I thought about you" Angelo argued

"When? when you realised you needed someone to bring in people to the club? I'm a woman Angelo, not a moll" Charlie cried

"Charlie-" Angelo said anger present in his voice; he didn't like the truth

"No. I'm through with all of this Angelo" Charlie grabbed the door handle "Goodbye Angelo" Charlie added before leaving the room and walking down the corridor, just out of sight of both doors.

She suddenly turned around when she heard the sound of a machine flat-lining. Unable to see which room the noise was coming from, Charlie began to panic as she knew there was no coming back from a flat-line.

Glad Charlie's baby is okay. I was worried there for a second! It's sad that Cheryl's never been to see Brax! I hope that she does go soon. Can't believe Angelo thinking things would be fine with him and Charlie! Well actually he's a stupid idiot so maybe I can! So glad she seems to have ended things though! Oh.My.God. Who flatlined??
