Glad you don't like Carla, I was going for that but unsure if I had done it right lol. totally, mizziette, Danni, soph1303, RoRo90 & Sarah thank you for commenting as well as reading, it means a lot and keeps me going! Hope this one is okay for you! Chapter 38 "I swear, if she doesn't leave within the next day or two, I'm going to go insane" Charlie ran her hands through her hair as she and Leah leant against the counter and watched as Carla spoke to Irene in the same manner as Angelo used to "That bad?" Leah asked as she looked to her friend "I know where Angelo got his attitude from" Charlie replied Leah gasped and brought her hands to her face "No" Leah could then see why Charlie was a bit all over the place "I thought you were finished with all that" Leah placed her hand on Charlie's back "How long is she staying?" "Any longer than a day and I'll call it hell" Charlie hid behind her hands "I have no idea" Charlie peeped through her fingers "If I stand like this, do you think she will see me?" Leah laughed softly "I think she will. Is she staying with you?" Leah asked "Yea. She wants to feel close to Angelo and been at the house where he lived will do just that" Charlie replied, walking over to an empty table and sitting on the chair "she never came and visited when he was alive. It was all the annoying phone calls at stupid o'clock that went on for hours that she did. Angelo never once told me about his mum, well, not in great detail. I know more about your mum than I do her" Charlie pointed at Carla, who was still chewing Irene's ear off "Anyway" Leah raised her eyebrows as she looked to Charlie "Can I get you something to eat?" "Just a hot chocolate please" Charlie replied "Coming up" Leah replied as she rose to her feet and walked toward the drinks counter "What you getting?" Carla asked as she sat opposite Charlie "I hope not any of the food here, I mean, its a diner" Carla looked disgusted "I've just ordered a drink" Charlie replied "Oh" Carla pushed her hair over her shoulder "I'm thinking about driving up to see Angelo. Spend some time with him, talk to him" Carla looked down to the table and placed with a leftover napkin "would yo-" "Charlie" Ruby smiled as she rushed to the table "I'm sorry I didn't get around to texting you, I have a free study period last lesson and, I couldn't concerntrate so I thought I'd come and find you" Ruby practically danced on the floor "I haven't interupted anything have I?" she asked, noticing Carla sitting there, not looking impressed "Actually-" Carla leant forward and was about to say yes "No" Charlie jumped in "Ruby, why don't you get us something to eat and I'll be with you in a minute" Charlie handed Ruby $20 "Erm, why did you do that?" Carla asked "Because, even if someone is interupting a conversation, you don't look at the person the way you did" Charlie replied, her voice slightly raised "Well, who is she? why does she want to speak to you?" Carla asked Charlie had to think of something, and think of it quick. She had to be careful of what she said; if she told Carla it was 'some friend' and Ruby heard, then all the pain and the work they had done would be for nothing, and if Charlie had said she was family, Carla wouldn't stop asking about that fact "She's my, she's my god-daughter" Charlie replied "Oh" Carla seemed disinterested "and was Angelo asked to be god-father?" "Erm, no. Angelo and I weren't together when Ruby was born, she has nothing to do with Angelo" "Oh well in that case" Carla grabbed her bag and placed it over her shoulder. Charlie had to bite her lip to stop a smile forming on her lips "I'll get a taxi to the cemetary and I will see you later" Carla walked off, much to the relief of Charlie "Hey" Ruby came back and sat "I didn't know what you liked so I played it safe and ordered you some fries with melted cheese on" Ruby placed her drink on the table and handed Charlie the change "Are you sure I didn't interupt something?" Ruby asked, noticing that the woman had now gone "You did" Charlie began, making Ruby feel slightly bad "But I'm glad you did" Charlie placed her hand on Ruby's "That was Angelo's mum" "Oh" Ruby's voice said it all "Yea, 'oh' covers it" Charlie sighed "So, how are things?" Ruby asked as she played with the straw in her drink "Until a couple of hours ago they were fine" Charlie replied "She is doing my head in and I have no idea how long she is staying" "Hasn't she told you?" Ruby asked "Nope. she just turned up, expecting to stay in the house. I have never met the woman in my life and all ready I don't think she likes me" Charlie played with the napkin in front of her "I'm sure its just teething problems" Ruby replied, bringing the straw to her mouth and taking a sip of her milkshake "She might surprise you and only be here for a couple of days" "I really doubt it" Charlie said "Anyway. How are things with you?" Charlie changed the subject "They're okay I guess. I told Issy about what we said yesterday and I think she is warming up to the idea of meeting you" Ruby smiled "Its nice to have them fully behind me and not just saying they are" "I bet its nice" Charlie smiled "Bianca knows about you, the truth I mean, and she's so understanding" "Charlie" Ruby looked down to the table "I heard her ask you who I was" Ruby slowly looked up again to Charlie, meeting her eyes "What did you say to her?" Charlie swallowed "Well, I didn't want to tell her the truth because it has nothing to do with her and I didn't want her thinking Angelo was your dad and try and get you away from Paul and Sally. And I didn't want to say that you were some friend, because, even though I feel our relationship is a friendship one, I don't want it to be like that for the rest of my life" Charlie felt she should explain a few things before she told Ruby what she had said "I told her you were my god-daughter. And that I was asked to be it before I met Angelo. I made it clear that Angelo had nothing to do with you" "A god-daughter" Ruby smiled "Yea" Charlie responded with a smiled also "What does your mum and dad say about you spending time with me?" Chalrie asked "Erm" Ruby pushed her empty glass away "I suppose they're okay with it, I mean, they always seem happy that I'm texting and ringing you when I remember. They have said they are okay with it, but whether or not that's the truth, I don't know" "Well, when the adoption happened, it was made so you and I were never supposed to find each other" Charlie confessed "What? Why?" Ruby asked "Because of my age and how I got pregnant. My dad and Paul both realised that, it could be very painful for me having to go see the child I gave up and seeing them as a reminder of what happened to me. Same for you, if you had been told how you were brought into the world, you could have gone in the other direction and be a mess" Charlie answered "At the time it made sense; I was still so sore after the caeserean and every time I heard teenage laughter, I was back there. But now, it seems so stupid; I look at you and all I see is my family" Charlie's eyes glazed over with tears, her nose stung as she held onto tears "Your family?" Ruby smiled "who do I look like most?" Ruby asked "You have my eyes; the doctor who delivered you said that the moment she looked at me after holding you" Charlie smiled "you have my auntie Michelle's hair -her's was a mixture of styles, she had a hard time with it. You have the same nose and mouth as my mum and you have the courage of my dad" "I really wish they were still alive" Ruby said sadly "Not just so I could have had the chance to meet them, but for you too" Ruby looked to Charlie "I can't imagine what its like not having my mum and dad around. You were my ages when you lost your mum, and when I think about it, it makes me so sad" "I hope you never loose them at a young age. Its something that you never ever get over" Charlie replied "The amount of times I have needed them over the last few years is ridiculous. But at the same time, mum was just so poorly that, its selfish of me for wanting her to still be here" "You have them in your heart though. They'll always be alive in there" Ruby smiled softly "Yea I know" Charlie replied "Hey, that was something I wanted to ask" Ruby's eyes widened "Have you decided on what you and Brax are gonna do?" "Your so nosy are you?" Charlie laughed "I am" Ruby replied "So??" "He's moving into my house" Charlie replied "well, not at the minute because of Carla" "Oh" Ruby moved back in her chair as Leah placed the two plates of chips on the table "So, does that mean me popping around isn't a good idea? I mean, I understand that you don't want her knowing that I'm not your god-daughter, but, I don't want to be coming this far to have to go back a few steps" Ruby picked up a chip with some cheese on and brought it to her mouth "I don't want that happening either, but Carla, if she finds out I was fourteen when I had a baby, she'll probably find a way to make me feel the way Angelo made me feel. I don't want to go back there, and I don't want her knowing. I'm not ashamed of anything that I've done; the adoption, getting you back into my life, been with Brax, none of it. I just don't want to give Carla any reason to stick around longer and make me the train wreck I was before" "Charlie. I wont come to the house, I promise. And as for Brax not moving in just yet; it has nothing to do with Carla. Brax and you are together, why shouldn't you move in? You've known each other for a good year, if not more and have been unofficially together for months as it is" "But Angelo only died three weeks ago. In Carla's eyes, I should be dressed in black and sobbing my heart out every minute of everyday" Charlie brought some chips to her mouth "Angelo was a ass, I'm sorry to use language like that, but he was. Everyone in the bay isn't judging you" Ruby paused for a moment "Well, maybe Mrs. Smart, but no one ever listens to her" "You're right" Charlie reached a decision "My life has nothing to do with Carla. She has nothing to do with me anymore, I can do what I want" Charlie reached into her pocket and grabbed her phone "what are you doing?" Ruby asked "I'm texting Brax" Charlie began to write a message "He's moving in now" ~*~ Carla looked to the grave. A lone tear rolled down her face as she looked at the name Angelo Rosetta She missed her son greatly, and would give anything for him to be back, stood next to her with his arm wrapped around her. Carla grabbed a tissue from her purse and wiped the tear before sniffing back more and looking around her. She noticed the other graves filled with flowers and decorated nicely. Her heart sank when she saw her sons was bare. Her phone rang in her purse 'yes? No, I'm planning on staying for at least a week. You should see his grave; its bare. Charlie hasn't been here and it looks like I'm the only visitor' Carla looked to the tombstone 'July 8th he died. Its the 29th now, and there are no flowers or anything to brighten it up. I can't belive that this is how he's remembered in death' Carla shook her head and made her way along the path, back to where the taxi was waiting for her 'I have to go now darling, I'll call you when I leave Summer Bay. Love you' Carla hung up and walked to the taxi. She took one last look at the graveyard before climbing into the car and closing the door. Telling the driver to go back to the Bay and drop her off at the first pub he found. ~*~ Liam placed the seventh pint glass done on the counter. His eyes were slowly crossing, his speech becoming impaired, his judgement cloudy and his balance...well, he'd been on the floor twice. "I think its time for you to go now mate, don't you?" The bar man said as he walked round the bar and to Liam, who had slumped against the bar with his head on the top "I don't go" Liam batted at the man "I'm a man. I can drink. I'm not going" Liam pointed at what he thought was the man, instead he pointed to picture on the wall "I don't care if you are the future king of the world. I ain't serving you anymore beer" The man let Liam slump back against the bar. Liam them picked up the glass he had just placed down, and tipped it toward his mouth, hoping to get the very last little drop of beer from the bottom of the glass. As the beer droplet made its way toward Liam's open mouth, Miles entered the pub looking to his left and right for Liam "Liam, mate" Miles approached Liam who placed the glass down on the bar top and looked at Miles "Miles!" Liam said happily as he placed his arms around Miles' neck "where ya been? I'm having a party in honour of ma mate Angel Rosie" Liam looked around before he re-grabbed his glass "here, fill this up will ya" Miles took the glass from Liam and placed it on the top, which the barman soon took away after rolling his eyes "Mate, we gotta go home" "No. nope, no, nope" Liam shook his head "I can't drink at home. Irene doesn't allow alcohol in the house. Good idea really, but I still want a drink" Liam held onto the bar "You don't live with Irene" Miles pointed out as he tried to peel Liam's fingers of the bartop. You live in your own place, and you're wanting Bianca to live there with you" Miles reminded Liam "Oh my god. Bianca" Liam let go of the bartop and brought his hand to his mouth, covering it over as he yawned "I shouted at her. I'm turning into Angelo" Liam wiped his hand down his arm "That was one thing I never wanted to do" Liam held three fingers up at Miles "I never ever, never ever wanted to treat Bianca like Angelo treated Charlie. Charlie is my sister" Liam looked up "Well, not ma sister sister, but a sister you just pick up along the way" Liam started to walk toward the door, with some help from Miles "Charlie hates me doesn't she? I mean, I was never friendly to her" "I'm pretty sure Charlie doesn't hate you" Miles opened the door and Liam's eyes widened with the breeze "How is Charlie? I've been so focused on people not going to Angel's funeral, that, I forgot to ask about her" Liam felt bad "She was his girlfriend, she might have hated him, but she was still his girlfriend" Liam marched in the direction of the Bay "I'm going to see her right now!" Miles shook his head and ran after the marching man "You've got verbal diaorrhea did you know that? Verbal diaorrhea" he said to Liam as he caught up with him, panting hard as Liam obliviously kept marching toward the Bay.

callyha Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Thanks guys for the comments! Hope you like this one.... Chapter 39 Brax walked into his messy house and looked at his surroundings. His mother had been out of her bedroom and had made herself someting to eat, which Brax was happy about because she was finally plucking up enough courage to leave the four walls of her room. He waded through the mess in the kitchen to grab himself some cake from the box on the side before making his way to the couch. He sat himself down slowly and tucked into his cake. His phone vibrated in his pocket, causing him to drop the cake he was holding. Muttering under his breath, he used his right hand to get his phone from his pocket and his left to pick up the cake from the floor. Tutting, he looked at the cake which was covered in bits from the floor, and placed it on the table before he glanced at the screen One new message from Charlie and a smile formed on his face. I don't care about Carla. I love you and I want you to move in with me. Come by the house in an hour or so with your things. C xxxx Brax never replied. Instead he jumped to his feet and scrambled around the house, throwing everything and anything that was his into the bag. Soon enough, his bag and car were full with all of his things. He stood in the middle of the front room, looking around at the place he had called home for twenty seven years, and felt slightly saddened. He knew he couldn't support his family for the rest of his life; but supporting them was the only thing he knew of, he knew Heath couldn't do t, as he himself was still trying make something of himself and was too used to Brax been there. "Brax" Casey threw his bag on the floor and sat on the couch "I was thinki-" Casey stopped when he saw the bag near the door "Erm, where are you going?" Casey rose to his feet Brax scratched the back of his head; he had hoped for a little longer to think of what to say to Casey "I'm moving in with Charlie" Brax went straight to the point "Why?" Casey screwed his face up "Why?" Brax echoed. Casey nodded and folded his arms "because I love her" "What about mum? what about Heath? or me?" Casey glared at Brax "Did you think about us?" "When it comes to my love life and where I'm living, no it has nothing to do with you two and mum" Brax raised his voice slightly "You're only thinking of yourself" Casey matched the loudness of Brax's voice with his own "Yea, I am. for the first time since dad died" Brax raised his voice a little more "Since he died, I have had to put food on the table, heat in the house, you through school Heath out of juvy, money in the bank, keep social services away from the house" Brax walked away from casey and leant up against the kitchen unit "That fight; been told I was close to dying, made me realise that, I have to put myself first sometimes. I put you before myself when I signed up for the fight and you still got hurt" "So you're blaming me for the fight" Casey glared once more at Brax "You're just a kid. I wouldn't expect you to understand" Brax brushed passed Casey and grabbed his bag "Yea, thats right Brax. Runaway from your responsibilities" Casey shouted as he watched Brax through the bag into the back of his car "What do ya think Heath is gonna say when he gets back and sees you gone?" "I don't care Case" Brax walked into the house and grabbed the last thing from the shelf; the family picture of him, Heath, Casey, Cheryl and Sean, three weeks before he died. "fine" Casey stormed off into his room, slaming the door as he entered "What the bloody hell?" Cheryl shouted as she left her room "What's going on?" she asked as she took the cigarette out of her mouth and looked to Brax "Where you off?" "I'm moving in with my girlfriend" Brax replied, holding the picture form the shelf "You what?" Cheryl asked "My girlfriend" Brax replied "What she called? Why haven't I met her?" Cheryl asked as she walked over to the couch and sat herself down, looking weary "She's called Charlie" Brax replied "And you haven't met her because.. well-" "I've cooped myself up in there" Cheryl finished Brax's sentace as she pointed to her bedroom door. "I'm so sorry Darryl" A tear rolled down Cheryl's face "I've stopped you from doing so much with your life" "Mum" Brax sat beside cheryl and placed his arm around her "No. Sean died ten years ago; Its about time I got over it and took care of my sons" Cheryl wiped the tear from her face "I'd like to meet her. Charlie, I mean" Cheryl looked to Brax "I know I'm not much to look at, and I don't seem to be the mother of three boys, but I've heard what you have been saying to ya brothers, and-" Cheryl placed her hand on Brax's cheek "I'm so proud of you son" "I'm going round to Charlie's in a few. Why don't you get in the shower and sort yourself out and I'll bring you and you can meet her ey?" "Sounds good" Cheryl smiled "thanks son" she added as she rose to her feet and headed for the shower. ~*~ "Keep you're hair on!" Irene muttered to herself as she walked over to the door, placing her cup of coffee on the table at the bottom of the stairs "Miles? Liam?" Irene said as she looked at the two men who stood before her "What the?" "He went to the pub, and drank three too many I think" Miles said as he dragged Liam into the house and dropped him on the couch "Sorry Irene, but, he's lost his keys so I couldn't take him back to his place" "Don't worry darl" Irene smiled "Why are you home?" Miles asked, noticing it was just after 3:40 and Irene always worked until 7 "I had the unfortunate pleasure of having my ear chewed off by a Carla Rosetta" Irene replied as she walked into the kitchen "Poor Charlie" "Angelo's mum is in the bay?" Miles asked "Yup, and Charlie looks drained from her already" Irene grabbed some cold water and poured out a cup of coffee and walked over to where Liam was "Leah was just saying that Carla is just like Angelo; Charlie really doens't need her in her life" "Well, how long is Carla here for?" Miles asked "Dunno love" Irene shrugged her shoulders "All I know is that I haven't seen that look on Charlie's face in a long time. Carla could be bad news for Charlie. Really bad news" Irene replied as she moved closer to Liam. Miles couldn't help but smile as Irene aimed the glass of water over Liam's face "Shh" Irene smiled as Miles nearly laughed out "What the!" Liam gasped as he felt the cold water flood his face "Wakey wakey" Miles grinned like a school kid "what as that for?" Liam asked as he sat up, wiping his face from the risidual water "No one is allowed to be drunk at my house" Irene said with a serious look on her face "Here" Irene handed Liam the strong coffee she had made "Cheers" Liam took the coffee and imediately began to drink "Sorry Irene" "No worries darl" Irene smiled as she sat beside Liam, avoiding the water stains "What was so bad that you had to drink?" "Angelo" Liam replied inbetween sips "I went to his grave, saw that I was the only visitor and I lost it" Liam shook his head "I thought I had dealt with his death; obviously I haven't" "You never 'deal' with a death in three weeks Liam, It's not possible" Irene shook her head "I know I'm sounding like a hypocrite, but-" "I know Angelo wasn't the nicest bloke in the world, I know that he did a lot of bad things to people and I know I'm kidding myself when I try and argue otherwise" Liam cut in "I just, I can't help it" "I think I know why" MIles raised his hand like a schhol boy "You saw him on the slab at the morgue didn't you?" Liam nodded "Well, its normally kin that look, who can then turn to their family for the comfort they need to 'get over' what they saw. You were just Angelo's mate and, as much as Bianca loves you and is there for you, she wasn't a big Angelo fan; she isn't able to comfort you in the way that you need" "Eh?" Irene looked puzzled "Its not his death that you can't deal with; its the sight of his body on the slab" Miles put what he was trying to say into simple terms "Oh" Irene understood "So-" Liam looked confused "I don't get it" "I think there is only one person you need to help you passed this" Irene smirked "Who? Bianca?" Liam asked, Irene shook her head "Charlie?" Irene shook her head once more "well, who then?" ~ "Carla, this is Liam" Irene introduced as she pushed Liam to stand beside Carla "Hi" Liam offered his hand to shake, but Carla simply looked at his hand, and then back to him, looking down at him "Why do I need to see him?" Carla asked, looking beyond Irene and Liam and seeing Charlie talking to the child she was lead to believe was Charlie's god-daughter "I erm, I was Angelo's best mate. I was the one who saw him in the morgue" Liam explained "Oh. You're the only one in thes god forsaken town who actually like my son?" Carla looked to Liam "I have been in the town nearly a whole day, and not one person has offered me any sympathy or condolences for the loss of my son. I mean, he owned this Bay and was a very sucessful business man. Can you please tell me why the simple minded people of this community don't even have a shred of decency to at least say to me'I'm sorry for your loss'. I don't ask for much, just a little respect" Carla barely made eye-contact with Liam "I erm" "And could you please tell me who that girl is with Charlie? I mean, Charlie is smiling and talking to people like nothing has changed. My son treated her with kindness, love, affection; he adored her and this is how she repay's him? she laughs in his memory? she barely speaks about him?" Carla raised her voice "Excuse me, I'm sorry to interupt, but could you refrain from raising your voice. The customers are here to enjoy their meal, not to sit and watch you make a fool of yourself" Colleen said as she looked up to the tall woman "I don't care if the fish in the Barrier Reef hear me. I don't understand why my sons death has been forgotten; he kept all of you with a job" Carla looked around the diner, she noticed Charlie and the girl had gone "Angelo wasn't a nice fellow" Colleen began "If you ask me, he got what he deserved" Colleen added before leaving the eating area and entering the safety of the kitchen "Excuse me?" Carla follwed Colleen to the counter top "What did you just say?" Colleen ignored the woman "I'm talking to you" Carla glared at Colleen, who remained in the kitchen, getting on with her work "What did she just say?" Carla turned to Irene and asked "The truth" Irene boldly said "My son never deserved to die at the hands of coward" Carla said as she got in the face of Irene and pointed "No? Then why did he?" Irene asked, not showing how unnerved she was. Carla -unable to think of anything to say- simply glared at all who stood around her before storming out of the diner ~*~ "So how are you going to get by Carla?" Ruby asked as she pushed the couch back to where it was "I have no idea" Charlie replied as she wrapped the cable from the hoover around the handle "but whatever it is, it gonna have to be good" "Maybe you could say you have to go out of town for a few weeks" Ruby suggested as she placed the cushions on the couch "I could, but then she'd want to come with me or something" Charlie replied "Oh" Ruby looked to Charlie "Well, maybe Brax could help you come up with something" Ruby suggested as she walked over to the shelf where she placed the candles "I think Carla is here for the long haul" Charlie sighed "I don't even think a cyclone would make her leave" "You never know; the cyclone might sweep her up" Ruby giggled "But seriously, you sure you don't mind me coming around? even when Carla is here" "No I don't mind. I really don't care what Carla has to say; she hasn't bothered with me in the last ten years, why would she bother now?" "Let me see. Because she has noticed no one has actually shown sign of missing Angelo, you have turned out to be something different to what Angelo said you were and you have been talking to a teenage girl" Ruby listed each thing on her fingers "If she is as bad as you say, then she will use every trick in the book she can to get to the bottom of things" "That's what I'm worried about" Charlie replied as she left the now tidy front room and entered the kitchen "She'll want to know why I kept so much of my life hidden away from Angelo; she'll want to know for sure that you aren't Angelo's, me telling her that you aren't his wont be enough for her" Charlie shook her head "You were fifteen when you got with Angelo though weren't you?" Ruby asked as she began placing some things in the rubbish bag "My age proves you weren't with Angelo and I have no reason to talk to Carla, so I wont give the impression that I'm something more than a friend" "I know you wont" Charlie smiled to Ruby "She's just, she's too much like Angelo, and I hate it"
Danni02 Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 While I can understand that Casey was probably just upset his brother was moving out, Brax was right.
