1990 Episode Discussion

Just watched episodes 508-510. A line from 510 made me laugh. Bobby on Carly spending the night with Ben:

'It's no-one's business except your and mine.' Carly is surprised and Bobby then says 'Well, I'm your best friend' - news to me

I think Carly and Bobby are what they call "frenemies" i.e. they're always arguing with each other, but always support each other in difficult situations. A bit like Natasha and Summer in Neighbours.

^Yeah, I just found it odd that Bobby described them as best friends. It seemed strange! I love Tash and Summer as friends in Neighbours :D

Just seen up 515. Lance's departure was heartbreaking. It was one of the best moments in the show's two year history so far. I couldn't believe how amazing Kate Ritchie was in those scenes, they were really touching and Kate's acting was excellent. I thought his reason to depart was fairly well-written too. You could see both his point of view and Marilyn's, it was so sad seeing Marilyn try so hard to make Lance happy and make the house feel more homely but Lance was just missing Martin :( Do you think it's possible that the fact Sally/Kate goes on to become such a legend clouds judgement about how great she is in the early years? I personally don't think so, I just think she was awesome.

I'm quite annoyed at Ben. It was horrible how he had a go at Carly for asking Pippa to be a guarantor, I thought his character was great at first, coming in and sweeping Carly off her feet but this temper that keeps coming through is a nasty character trait. I wonder why the writers decided to give him that aspect to his personality? Also, this jewellery selling story is so predictable from the off-set. It's boring me already.

Alf's face was hilarious when he got the putter out, and it was all bent. I'm guessing it wasn't supposed to be so mangled, the end was practically falling off, Alf's expression was brilliant, it was like Ray was trying so hard not to laugh  What I want to know is, how did Alf nearly go through a whole game of golf without using his putter?

P.S. Was 508 Celia's last episode? If so what an insult to the character and actress. She deserved a much better send-off than that. Her scene with Alf was touching, but I would have liked a send-off party or something with the community gathering together. It was a bit of a slap in the face to Celia fans

^I seem to remember Alf was actually still on the first hole when he found the putter was broken. He just took a long time to get there.

I haven't see any further than 515 either but we haven't quite seen the last of Celia yet, her last episode is 520.Although judging by some of the comments on here, you might not be any more pleased by what we get.

Thanks for letting me know, Red Ranger. :)

I'm absolutely dreading

Tom's death

.

I'm feeling a bit resistant to all this change at the moment. Despite liking most of the new cast (bar Ben at the moment) it does feel like the show is quickly leaving its first era well and truly behind.

I think I've started to see 1988 as a era all on its own - I don't view 1989 the same way as I do 88. So far it feels like 1990 is a cross between both 88 and 89, unsurprisingly since they were the only seasons for the producers to go on at the time.

I agree about the Summer Bay community feeling more present at the moment. There's obviously a fine line in terms of how they actually get that 'feel' across.

The scenes we did get for Celia's departure were nice in her final episode and her final scene was quite bitter sweet, but like I said, I would have preferred they had reshuffled the scenes around and I would have liked to see her depart on screen.

Prepare for uploads a plenty over the weekend. You'll be caught up with 7TWO come Monday! :)

Enjoyable last few episodes. I like the Sally/Mullet stuff and Emma storyline, I'm just enjoying the show in general at the moment, more than I did the latter part of 1989.

It does seem a lot more back to the community stuff. No global bands, no deranged stalkers meddling with a community outcast, no random staying with the Fletcher's to make up for Tom not being there, no Jaws.

I think the fact that we had a fresh influx of characters means we've now got some fresh blood with their stories to tell. I did feel that with Lance and Martin, they were beginning to run out of ideas.

They aren't faultless: did I sense a property development story at the end of Episode 520 (which I believed marked 2 years on air)

What deranged stalker??

Anyway, I am enjoying the episodes currently except for Carly-Ben. The touch footy storyline was SO cliche and predictable.

I think that Lance, Martin and Celia should have received a better send off.

Surprisingly Marilyn seems like one of the weakest cast members in the current early episodes. It's like the writers are struggling to find where she fits in the show at the moment. Hard to believe that she goes on to become such a legend if you only had knowledge of these episodes!

I really can't wait to see episodes 521 to 525. I like most of the stroylines at the minute. But it was stupid of Carly to get sucked in by that jewellery business <_< I agree with EDWARD SKY LOVER that Marilyn does seem a bit weak. But she should move in with Matt and Adam at some point, so that should be funny. I like Carly in some ways but I'm glad Sally told her off and told her what's what lol
