1990 Episode Discussion

She also had that great storyline in late 1999 where she went mad after being in a coma for so long.

Yes this is one of my favourite storylines of 1999, I remember looking forward to the crash for weeks and then it happened and she was in hospital but the storyline just went on and on and became more and more interesting and at times slightly sinister. I wonder if the writers started to come up with more juicy storylines for Ailsa as a way of trying to convince Judy to stay on. Its not as if they ignored her during the 90's, but looking back they did seem to put more effort into writing her during her final year and a half.

So it that it for Emma? Sad if it is, I really liked her character.

I was a bit surprised by how quickly she changed her tune about her mother. It wasn’t long ago that she arrived in Summer Bay with a real hatred of her mother, and even when she returned Emma was very angry with her and didn’t want to listen to her. I get that her pain was mainly directed at her mum’s partner and after all she is her mother so she’ll always have some connection with her, but I can’t help but feel Emma changed her tune all too quickly. She went from hating her to being best friends with her in the blink of an eye.

Anyway, I loved how Ailsa handled the whole thing, very maturely despite how conniving Bridget was. I loved her last line, “Emma, if you ever need me...”. Very touching.

They’re really trying to shove it down how throats how irresponsible and immature Adam is, which is a bit weird. Ever since he arrived he’s always been a bit of a free spirit and not overly fond of doing the hard yards, but it’s been taken to a whole new level lately. It seems every scene he’s in he’s saying something dumb or refusing to pull his weight, I wonder where they’re going with this portrayal.

Yeah I do think it seems a bit out of the blue for him to have acquired this reputation - all of a sudden Alf for example, thinks hes a no good looser, whereas I had the impression he liked him a few weeks ago.

I haven't seen any episodes since Tuesday. I will say I'm not sure the aftermath of Tom's death in these two episodes was as it should be. Something missing perhaps, maybe its felt a bit to 'clinical'. I think its a bit strange especially that we haven't really seen Bobby and Carly genuinely crying over Tom's death. We had Bobby teary in last Thursday's episode but it wasn't the focus of the scene and Carly doesn't seem to have been affected by it all that much on screen which is a shame because Tom and Carly always had great scenes together and appeared quite close.

I'm thinking its because like with Celia and Martin, they didn't want to really highlight that a major and well loved character had departed - so as not to cause too much of an alarm to viewers that the show wasn't going to be the same any more. The speech Pippa gave at Tom's wake felt a bit like she was talking to the audience rather than those in Summer Bay House.

Adam is an idiot. Matt is good when he is on his own but around Adam he is stupid.

Steven I know your greiving but life does go on. You dont need to blame Ben he didnt kill Tom.

But Ben is taking over the family I mean how bloody dare he take Tom's chair at the dinner table? Who the hell does Ben think he is!!!! I sure as hell wouldn't be so forgiving if I were Steven, if ya ask me Steven is being too soft!!!

I'm glad Stevo is telling everyone what he thinks and feels about loosing Tom - I think this is how I'd react if everyone I was living with were just ignoring it and continuing on so soon after a fathers death. I know life goes on, but it can take a while for grief and sadness to subside after a death - some people cope better than others but I don't think its fair to just tell someone who is obviously still upset that 'life goes on' and in a sense 'get over it'.
