I wonder if he's started wearing shoes yet.

Probably not....possibly thongs for Sunday best if he's still around the Bay

I think Viv was always in some ways going to be an experiment in some ways being the first youngster they introduced into one of the families and so some mistakes were made. I'd say between now and 1996 though, the vast majority of kids they introduce in are successes.

The one that sticks out is Sarah and she is very similiar in that she's a good kid and eventually it leads to boring. Look at the Gilmore Girls. Rory essentially starts out as a sweet child in the first few series, but as the series goes on she steals a yacht, breaks up a marriage etc. Essentially, nice people make boring TV. You need to create situations leading to conflict.

It's a pity that she never returned to the Bay in a guest appearance or that she had some kind of reunion with Steven or Fisher....

I'd much rather have seen Sandra Barlow again than Viv.

I'm sensing from a few posts that Viv was not well liked - I think she's great myself but others think that she was a 'nobody' character that went nowhere....pity because they could've really developed it further than her being a runaway, Steven's girlfriend and Emma's pal.....she could've gone to Uni with Steven and have come back in the future as a teacher or social worker...

Andrew Foley...what did everyone think of him?? I am interested to hear opinions....

^I was not Andrew's greatest fan. I think he's a competitor for the most arrogant character of all time. He was meant to me kind and giving, but he thought he had the answer to everything. He was always the first to dish out 'advice', thinking his opinion was law and that no-one else was entitled to an opinion. I also found his relationships quite creepy. Poor Carly, but his relationship with Stacey was far more creepy. As you can probably tell, I didn't like him. Having said all that, his character did lead to that epic scene where Carly told him she loved him at the school. Great acting from Sharyn there.

As for Viv, I don't think it's the fact that she was 'normal' that got on my nerves. She just didn't seem to have a personality other than being a 'stick in the mud'. What she had been through with her father didn't seem to shape her as a character and most of the time she came across as ungrateful to Donald when she really owed everything to him for saving her from her father. Mouche Phillips is a wonderful actress though. I seem to recall a scene where she was talking to Tammy on the phone at the school, and being in tears - really convincing, heartbreaking stuff. I don't find her relationship with Steven all that convincing either. It's not like I want to see them slobbering all over each other, but when they kiss it's all so contrived, awkward and unnatural. I know she's the sort of character who wouldn't want to be really full-on, but the chemistry isn't there a lot of the time. However, I think she's been sweet helping Steven through the loss of Tom.

It's kind of funny but many of the characters that I really like (Martin, Lance, Andrew, Viv) seem to be ones that have left (or are leaving) and ones that many H&A Forum members don't particularly like :( I take the point that Viv's character was under-developed and going nowhere, there was so much potential to build it up after being abused for so long....and you're right, Mouche Phillips is a very convincing actor...for that reason I shall miss her character....

As for Andrew, he was in some ways the predecessor to Grant Mitchell....I can even remember in one episode the students (maybe Emma???) was saying that Grant was not a patch on Andrew.....I was sad to see him go....like Martin & Lance, he injected some humour into the show (viz. the canoeing incident with Stacey Macklin  ) that is sadly missing from the 2011 H&A....I can see why, however, he was not everybody's cup of tea....

Alf & Adam - they used to get on like a house on fire but now Alf just blasts him at every opportunity (e.g. just recently about the tinned fish display)....couldn't Alf just forgive him for the Surf Club cupboards and Sophie's accident???? And the Surf Carnival??? :(

Alf and Adam's relationship is great, I remember loving it first time round and I still do. Adam's catchphrases "Trust me", and "It'll be a piece of cake" really start to become thorns in Alf's side. But I think deep down on some level Alf likes Adam because he spends the next 4 years giving him "one last chance".

Very true, Adam always seems to get 'another chance' What I can't remember is whether the relationship dynamics with Alf changed after Bobby's accident....Alf was ropeable after what happened to Sophie at the Surf Club....just can't remember if he disliked Adam after the boat incident....

Adam Cameron....loveable layabout or wasted talent??? What do you think??? Should he have continued his teaching studies and made a career?? Or does it suit him better to have been a 'beach bum' type???

I love Adam Cameron. I remember having a bit of a crush on him back then and I think I still do. He can be a chauvinist pig at times but its hard to stay mad at him for long.

I love that his schemes never seem to work out and I like his friendship with Matt. Those two seem inseparable.

It's funny that you mention that Natasha, I was just thinking the same thing....I remember when they weren't friends, back when Adam was new in the Bay....both of them had a brief rivalry about the Beach Inspector job and I remember that scene when Adam threw a chip packet on the ground and Matt made him pick it up...though there was going to be fists flying!!!

Well, there wasn't one thing I liked about today's episode. (Monday, 5th December) Megan was obviously spoiled and greedy, how can her husband stand her?

And Sally can be such a brat when she wants to be.

Like I said, not much to like about this episode.
