1990 Episode Discussion

I'd say whilst there's many reasons one doesn't like an episode, in late 1989 I just wasn't buying a lot of what of was going, whilst in 1990, some of the stories have just been low key or boring. And if you don't actually believe what's happening, as I did in 1989, it's more damaging than it not being exciting enough.

You've hit the nail on the head with that description... 1990>1989 :D

I've just written a letter to Channel Ten, asking them to repeat Neighbours like Seven has done with Home and Away.

It's a campaign I tell ye...

doesn't first season of neighbours belong to seven network? If they would started repeating neighbours from the beginning I would consider to start watching it.

Edward, what a great idea :) Though we may also need to write to Channel 7 if they don't bring back TEY :(

Des & Daphne, they're great, in a way they remind me of Marilyn & Lance, although they were smarter as I recall....

And Ann Haddy, I had always liked her as Rosie from S&D.....

I still watch H&A now but gave up on Neighbours more than a decade ago....not even the return of Paul Robinson was enough to entice me into watching it.....and Toadfish still annoys me.....

I see you've still got Sophie in the black dress as your profile pic :D

Yeah, I guess they'd have to repeat from episode 171 which is the first episode screened by Ten.

I thought it had been confirmed that TEY was returning on the 16th? I'm going to be devastated if it doesn't come back. If it doesn't, we'll have to make sure we don't let it go without a fight...

Thanks DI - You'd watch it if they repeated Neighbours: TEY then? :)

Well they're releasing a DVD in Australia of the first 60 Episodes, so my guess is they aren't owned by either Seven or Ten, but rather Grundy or as it is now Freemantle. Adam on Neighboursfans would probably give you a more definitive answer.

Regarding Morag in 1989, I think they wrote her into a corner. The first 100 episodes are pretty good, but if you write in an antagonist or villian, I believe the villany can only go so far, and when you write it to the point that they have no friends in the cast, and you've exhausted the core lines of antagony, you can either have the character have an epiphany and change, or they've got to move on. Part of me wonders whether what a show where Morag and Bobby became friendly would have been like, but at the same time, they went down that road with Fisher.

Edward, there seems to be conflicting information about H&A TEY & S&D returning to 7Two on 16 Jan.

One post indicated that it would return on 16 Jan based on info from someone that person contacted in the TV business. Another suggests that it may not return until 30 Jan (completion of all Aust tennis) although they admitted this was not verified. Another poster said that their Fox cable channel guide showed it returning on 16 Jan.

I have two links to advanced Aust telly programming but I checked this morning and they only go until 15 Jan.

So some people believe it will be back on 16 Jan; others are not sure but there is, as yet, no apparently confirmed evidence to substantiate it's return yet.

I will continue to check the advanced programme guides this week, which will confirm whether TEY is back on 16 Jan.

Either way, if it does not return, it seems as though a few of us will make sure Channel 7 is given the appropriate feedback :)

As for Neighbours TEY, I definitely would watch that :D

In fact, that would be like a dream come true if H&A TEY, S&D and Neighbours TEY all screened every day!!! Add some earlier Corrie too and it would be the most :P

When Heartbreak High was repeated on ABC3 a few years back they started from the beginning which was first screened and made for TEN back in the 90's - so I assume they acquired the rights from the production company and TEN no longer owned them? Maybe this is the case with Neighbours. 7TWO are also showing The Bill which was originally aired on ABC.

I'm looking forward to the Neighbours DVD release, but if the early years were to be screened I doubt I'd buy them - there wouldn't be much point. I still think they would get as many viewers as H&A Early Years despite a DVD release though. I wouldn't mind if they started from the TEN episodes, Imo the Seven era of Neighbours feels like a Sons and Daughters spin off and I can't say I'm a fan of Sons and Daughters - a bit too melodramatic for me.

I'm pretty much confident H&A Early Years will return now - thanks Dibble Investments Inc!! :) I'm looking forward to getting up to the point the Early Years were axed 10 years ago - when/if we go over them. I'd also be interested in finding out the ratings for the early years these days. I remember them being quite low a few weeks into the launch of 7TWO.
