Back to the recent episodes and Jason's dad is still annoying me with his portrayal of Al Simpson. It all seems incredibly over the top. i agree. I can't tell if it's a mixture of bad acting and cliché villain writing, or just bad acting.

It's a very close race between Andrew, Matt and Viv. But I think Viv wins. I am sure I posted before somewhere that I know Fiona Spence would like to return to the show. I am sure I posted before somewhere that I know Fiona Spence would like to return to the show. So it's up to the writers really. It doesn't make sense if they haven't tried to get her back. It is lovely having Morag back, bu while she's not there I see no reason why Celia shouldn't pop back for a visit. She has even more reason to now that Roo is back in Summer Bay. My hope is that Cameron Welsh or someone high up in the production of H&A is watching the early years and thinking of some ideas to bring the character back. But anyway, if anyone in the writing team is reading this, please bring Celia back!!

Red Ranger 1 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Yeah, I don't really have a problem with Al(apart from hoping he gets his comeuppance soon).I guess Terance plays it a bit broad so the character couldn't really be anything but a villain but I think that's kind of the point, everyone knows he's no good.As villains go, he's one of the more plausible: No nebulous, over-complicated revenge plan, he's just there to extort money in a believable fashion.
alejandro5000 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 I like Sophie and Rebekah who plays her, but her acting in these early episodes leaves a lot to be desired! I think some of the worst acting seen on the show up to this point. I think her acting probably is a bit unsure at this point as a young girl, but to me it has slightly helped the character so far because a girl would be unsure and frightened with the only role model/father she knows being Al Simpson. And the character certainly did become popular because I know someone who is named after Rebekah Elmaloglou! Elsewhere, I have personally enjoyed Terence Donovan's portayal as Al Simpson thus far as a character who livens the programme up. Jason Donovan certainly inherited his father's voice...

I always got the feeling she was completely opposite to Celia from interviews and such. I'd really like to see Celia's 2000 return, I remember really enjoying it at the time. I think its been mentioned before but it would be great (if they didn't want to bring her back permanently) to have Celia come back when Morag disappears for a few months, then overlap their stints for 5 weeks or so and write her out again while Morag returns. We could have both characters for 6 months of the year and a couple of those months have them in the show together.

Yes I wrote to Fiona Spence herself not long ago (when I really started to get into the Early Years again) to say I enjoyed her portrayal of Celia and ask if she'd ever play her again one day. She replied saying she'd play her again in a heart beat.
