Even then, there's no point in just following the crowd or looking for people to have the same personal views. I remember when I was the only member who liked Duncan and Luke, and people demanded I be shot (or less serious threats), but I stayed entrenched.

Edward, I think Irene's cancer storyline has been one of the worst I've ever seen on TV. It hasn't been given any where near enough screen time or been focused on the way it should. Its also totally lacked any emotional depth. Its just been so bland, as if the writers couldn't be bothered at all. Such a stark contrast to how H&A used to handle these sort of storylines and how they used to treat there well established characters.

I'm close to hating what the show has become. At the moment I'd say I'm only genuinely interested in about 20% of the scenes in an average week. I find it quite incredible and disappointing, how it has changed so dramatically over the past 10 years.

I'll try not to harp on too much in here because I don't want to go off-topic but yes, Irene's cancer storyline has been awful. The worst thing for me was Gypsy's return - she spent so much time arguing with everyone around her, a skeletal Irene had to ask her to leave because she was causing her so much stress :o

And even worse, Bianca having an argument with April(?) in the corridor of the hospital, Irene had to come out and demand them to behave in a civilised manner. These are the sort of characters 2012 serves up - not giving a dam about someone who has cancer that they're supposed to care about, instead they'd rather talk about their latest shag. :o

I'm getting to the point where I wish Marilyn has never returned now, too. In 2012 she should be the heroine of the show. She has lost everything that made her unique in the first place. I don't mind how she seems to have matured and become wiser but that was not what Maz was about. She had this naive, upbeat, slightly mad energy about her. She was very OTT and quite an air head. I'm all for character development but it seems like she's only become 'wise' because that is the default setting the writers have for 40+ characters. They got it right in quite a few episodes of 2010, I don't know how it went so downhill. She has lost her spark and I really miss it :( It would make it more bearable if Marilyn dished out advice, thinking she was wise herself, but really she was the only one who thought that and her naive bubbly personality proved that she was still the same old Maz after all.

Anyway, I don't mean to get off-topic. Marilyn, in the early years, had brilliant one-liners, almost every episode. She was a fun, bubbly character and brought a lot of heart to the show. Wandering around the diner giving advice to nobodys is not what she should be doing. I loved her line last week when Steven was giving her defence lessons. Something along the lines of 'If a gguy approaches me in a dark alleyway I should ask him to stop while I do my breathing?' Another great story has been her wanting to become a policewoman (in fact, you can see why Maz and Donald were paired together in later years, they've just begun to share scenes in the early years such as at Ben and Carly's wedding and when she asked if she could repeat the HSC). The scene in Donald's office was hilarious and it's what Marilyn should be about. Sorry for the rant

Home And Away lost its shine well before 2012. It is absolute crap these days but sadly the Braxtons aren't the first so-called "heart throb" monsters that turn on the silly young girls among the audience.

Question - how long would you like TEY to go on for being broadcast??

There was the topic that considered the definition of what the 'Early Years' is (e.g. up to Bobby's death etc). However, I'm just ascertaining everyone's own preference for how long TEY should be broadcast on 7Two (for instance, Edward suggested up to 2004 and wasn't too fussed after that).

Personally, I'd like to go as far as 2002 - the last appearance of Martin thus far (surprise, surprise!!!) and Alf's vision of Ailsa would be good to see again too....

I totally agree. The 'River Bores' (as another forum member called them) are sad role models for the younger viewers who watch the show.

Interestingly, Dodge used to 'scare' me a lot more than these imposters....

Edward, completely and totally agree with you about Marilyn. I find it so frustrating that they have the actor there, she is willing and raring to go, and yet they give her rubbish scripts and material to work with. She is only Marilyn because of the way Emily Symons acts, otherwise her dialogue could be given to anyone else in the show. It just shows a complete lack of imagination and creativity on the writers part.

Edward, you should copy and paste all of that in the Marilyn thread. I'd love the writers to take note and really concentrate on brining the character back to life.

It would make it more bearable if Marilyn dished out advice, thinking she was wise herself, but really she was the only one who thought that and her naive bubbly personality proved that she was still the same old Maz after all.

Aw, that would be quite sad but in a funny/cute way, and typical of Marilyn! haha

Pleasant surprise to see Karen and Blake rock up today! :) Marilyn and Fisher and then Marilyn and Alf were really funny today too. Interesting to see the dynamics at the Fletcher's now Carly and Ben have come home.

Nice to see Carly being spoilt rotten with nice expensive roast beef while the rest of the family have to live on the breadline. What makes her so bloody special? Told you she was a snob.

Meanwhile, welcome to Summer Bay Blake & Karen. I think I'm going to like Karenā™„

and not just because she finishes Sophie's boyfriend off permanently in a few hundred episode's time. Shame her taste in men is not much better than Sophie's, when she goes out with Revhead.

Wanting to eat a good quality roast for a celebration, doesn't make you a snob. Besides, the look on Carly's face suggested she may share it with the rest of the family.

I agree. I hope Carly shares her meal with the family.

And hello to Blake and Karen!
