Mrs Prendergast was the undisputed star of that episode! laugh.gif

What she said was really out of line and none of her business.

I hope Vicki Baxter gets what she deserves but Emma is just going to get herself into more trouble than she already is!

And Marilyn just steals every scene she's in. I love her now and presently.

I imagine this set makeover may also be because of the extension they're adding - a kitchen, and so possibly the alterations here are to allow the kitchen to become part of the set. Always interesting these little things that crop up as time has passed, that you have never noticed before or are surprised by. I didn't expect to wait 600 episodes for the first scene in the Stewart kitchen, nearly 200 episodes before we saw in Fisher's house, I never realised Celia had a house.

That's a good theory; perhaps they had to shrink the set slightly to fit the kitchen in, like the famous shrinking sets on Neighbours! I was also surprised how long it took to see Donald's house as I always remembered that as being there from the beginning. However, I did remember Celia's house. I always remembered the scene where she told Roo she was going to bed because she couldn't work under the artificial light any more. Funny what you remember from when you're 8 years old!

One thing I'm wondering is the current stores departure, because seeing as how Alf is soon running a different one, it's changing seems pointless. With the exception of about 3 minutes, I have never seen anything between now and 715. The 600's being a particular dead spot in actual footage it appears.

Yes, it does seem a bit pointless. How long is it after the old store closes that the new one is introduced? I seem to remember there being a bit of a gap so I wonder if the plan was to no longer have a shop set but then they realised it was quite useful for certain scenes? Or maybe they just wanted to downsize since the new set is consirably smaller?

Marilyn has become the star of the show for me by now.

Funny considering she was struggling to find where to fit once Lance and Martin had gone. Her scenes with Fisher are just so brilliant, I'm surprised they weren't paired up now as apposed to 95/96.

I know what you mean; she danced with Donald at Ben and Carly's reception and then kissed him when she passed her entrance exam... it's as if we're already building up to it but I'm sure it was the furthest thing from the producers' minds at the time! I guess the same goes for the viewers, or I probably would have remembered those scenes. I've been chuffed to see them this time around because Donald and Marilyn are my favourite pairing in the show's history.

Alf and Ailsa taking Blake and Karen in seems a bit like stretching believability for me, their links to Ailsa are so tenuous but I suppose they had to live somewhere if the show wanted to bring them in.

It is funny how after the Fletchers arrived that everyone in Summer Bay automatically became a foster carer... Alf, Ailsa, Donald, and later on Irene jumps on the bandwagon too. On the other hand, that is what the show was all about, and it would be nice to see a bit more of it in 2012.

Though in the shows defence Fisher didn't take anyone in until 350 episodes in (and I think I mentioned this in another thread, but think he may only actually take 4 kids under his wing in the entire run, excluding those that can be called family, Seb and Sam), and no one moves into the Stewart House until 400 episodes in and even then it's Ailsa's troubled niece, and whilst Blake and Karen appear "out the blue", they are also not unknown to Ailsa.

I always presumed they just wanted to downsize the store - it appears to be a very big set, bigger than the diner (?). The new store looks quite similar to the original, just not as big and without the area towards the back.

How rude was she?!! Talk about sticking her nose in someone elses business!!

And for whatever reason I like Vicki, I really do. Interesting character. Emma was really pathetic, I get that she was trying to get Vikci back but that's just not on.

Yeah I assume they just realised the size of that set was unnecessary. But I always did like it better than Alf's next store. I don't actually remember the circumstances of why they changed shops so that will be interesting to find out. I do remember something silly about Ailsa signing a paper on behalf of Alf and owership of the shop going to her by mistake.

I like Vicki too, I think because she is acted well. I loved the way she spoke to Marilyn.

What happened to Betty Fallwill and Doris Peters (Vera's small-town gossiping wowser mates)??

Nana Coburn really plays the part of nasty Vicki well....if anything she's probably under-utilised because she's wasted on just being Emma's nemesis.

Given the right storylines, she could really be the Alpha Female bad girl, especially when she finishes High School :D
