That was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo ACE, especially …..

 Dex has this recurring nightmare that he’s going to turn up to school and Casey will have told the entire student body that they used to hook up, and as a result everyone turns on him. He has slanderous words scrawled into his locker and has to have the whispered gay synonyms follow him around like a shadow. But for some reason Casey remains untouched. He stands tall among his peers while they taunt and tease him, even though Dex realises there are worse things to be called than just gay.

 Dex has the scars to prove that it’s a much too dangerous conquest to even be seen socialising with Casey outside of school time, let alone getting romantically involved.

 It’s almost scary how well she knows him.

 “A party,” she repeats, shooting a confused look between the two of them. “Like, loud music and hot guys and lots of alcohol. Although, the hot guys part of the equation pertains mostly to me, but whatever. There’s still music and booze.”

 It’s not that Dex dislikes Ruby exactly; he just, doesn’t find her all that interesting, so he sort of stopped listening the moment she approached the table.

 She’s got this small smile on her lips, and Dex can’t really look at her face because if he does his eyes might betray how he really feels.

 “Look, April,” Dex says, leaning forward in his chair. He thinks about reaching out and taking her hands, it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done it. But somehow, with Dex no longer oblivious to everything going on around him, it seems like it would be crossing some sort of line. “I really, really appreciate everything you’ve done for me. Like, more than you will probably ever know, but --”

“Don’t,” April says, cutting him off. “Don’t say anything. I get it.” She nods and Dex suddenly feels horrible for being like this. It isn’t April’s fault Dex is mentally unstable, she is the one person who has been his constant throughout this whole ordeal, and now he’s trying to push her away for no good reason. “And don’t stress about the party,” April adds as she stands and leaves Dex at the table by himself.

That was awesome. Ruby made me smile too. :D Shame April left Dex at the end to go to the party.I get the feeling they could of had a thing too. Love how she can just sense things without having to ever ask Dex what is wrong.

look forward to seeing where this goes next.

MatildaHunterFan - Thank you very much.

Miranda - I don't know if it's lust anymore. Maybe originally that is what drew them to each other, but now it's sort of ... plateaued? I don't know, there's something inside, but it's definitely different than the very beginning. I do have a small piece that's a sort of companion one-shot to this 'verse from Casey's point of view and deals with The Beginning. I'm going to be posting that after this fic is completely finished. Thank you so much for reading, I always get very excited to see your responses and your take on things :).

Pierced Musie - Wow, thank you. Ha! Dexy! Someone needs to call him that on the show. I will pay good money for that.

Zetti - You know how I feel about this comment. It's so perceptive and very in tune to the sort of feel I want for the story. It's almost so accurate it hurts. I'll be curious to see what you think of the last couple of parts. (There are 13 parts, incidentally.)

HighwayUnicorn - Thanks! *blushes*

JosieTash - Thank you!!!

Red Ranger - It's assumed that April and Xavier have been together this whole time. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough. They just aren't really a focus and I don't really know how to Xavier so he's sort of stayed out of all the shenanigans.

pembie - I'm glad you like Ruby. I tend to write her a bit younger and more immature than she actually is on the show, just a bit too overenthusiastic about things, so yeah. Glad you liked. I like the April/Dex relationship too much to let it go that easily ... Stay tuned.

On to Part 11.

Nice chapter.I liked the chat between Dexter and Indigo at the start, with that odd concerned sister way she looks at him.And I loved the interaction between the four teens, I thought you caught them all pretty well. And a minor cliffhanger to take us out on...

Indi and Dex, I have to admit I have missed their interactions on the show, I mean there is Sasha but Indi is his sister that grew up with him so personally I love their interactions. Dex honestly has the knack of making me smile.

Dex is not moping.

He’s just sitting on the couch, with the tv off, staring at the blank screen. He’s thinking about April and her uncomplicated relationship with Xavier, and the fact that no one has tried to kill her because of it. And then he thinks of Casey and the fact that there must have been something between them, and Dex foolishly believed in it enough to risk his life for it.

 not moping. I love the fact that he is trying to make sense of it, but its not really possible because April and Xavier are two seperate people with their own mindsets in their own relationship. Casey clearly cannot see himself in a relationship with Dex for his own reasons which is what I think you are trying to capture and its really good so far :)

Dex sighs, kneading his fist into his forehead. The pounding has intensified to a stabbing sensation, and Dex is ready to just go home, realising that this whole expedition was a giant waste of time.

Ah poor Dex :(

looking forward to more Jen :)

Yes I liked Dex and Indi at the start of this chapter too. I agree they don't seem that close on the show these days.

Love how you write all the diffrent emotions of Dex with the way he feels about April and Casey. the description of the way he felt with that river bank with being pulled in both directions beween April and Casey was really good.

But sadly I can't see Casey admitting he likes Dex because of the whole River Boy thing.

Look forward to the last couple of chapters to see how this ends.

Another wonderful chapter.

I love how you wrote Indi and Dex's relationship. If only they did this on the show again...

I can't wait to see where you take this and how it ends :)

Its’ certainly no fun being Dex in the fic!!!!! but the story is AWESOME !!!!!!! LOOOOOOOVE it, especially …..

 He’s thinking about April and her uncomplicated relationship with Xavier, and the fact that no one has tried to kill her because of it. And then he thinks of Casey and the fact that there must have been something between them, and Dex foolishly believed in it enough to risk his life for it.

 Casey had started talking to him. And it was like a switch had been flicked on inside Dex’s head, and he finally realised that he didn’t have to scream to get noticed, or play the oddball card to get any scraps of attention. Casey sought him out, and didn’t roll his eyes or poke fun when Dex made obscure pop culture references. And then -- well, the rest is history.

 “No, no, I know. I just -- I’d feel better about it if I knew you weren’t sitting here all alone.”

 “Says the person who’s never fallen off a horse,” Dex replies.

 So that is how Dex ends up at Ruby’s aforementioned party.

 It was dilapidated, with the front door openly swinging on its hinges, while the patio was completely lopsided.

 at Ruby, who is talking to them very animatedly. She’s sort of swaying, Dex realises, so she’s obviously been here for a while.

 Dex nods and Ruby leans into his body, two hands flung around his neck in a sort of sideways hug. She giggles into his chest.

 And God, Dex’s brain is almost going to short circuit because he just has no idea what he’s feeling anymore. It’s like he’s in the middle of a raging river and on one river bank there is Casey and on the other is April, and they’re both holding out their hands and Dex just has to grab on to one before he gets swept away.

 And Dex gets the impression that she’s sort of breaking up with him, which is so bizarre because last time Dex checked they weren’t actually dating. And what is even stranger, is that it actually hurts.

 Dex is ready to mumble his thanks and just side-step them so he can just get home, but he looks up and catches the familiar blue of his eyes, and Casey is staring down at him.
