1991 Episode Discussion

Apart from a few episodes here and there, Blake hasn't had much involvement in this Karen business, which is a bit out of character but I think the writers have deliberately left him out of the storyline because they know the direction they are taking Karen in and they couldn't believably do it with Blake involved to talk Karen round.

You mean the writers had to make her exit as one-way as possible without killing her off?

Do you think it was Belinda's will to leave? I think she could come back in the current show well, with Alf still there.

I have always wondered this. Her downfall seems to have been a long drawn out one, so it seems her exit has been in the pipeline for quite some time, but whose choice it was I don't know. I don't know why the writers would have chosen it because I think she was a good character (better than her replacement Finlay who I liked as well but she was a bit like butter wouldn't melt).

I know that with Haydn (whose replacement Simon is also not as good) it was the actor's choice to leave. He is now in a band and has changed his name to Charlton Hill.

I agree. This storyline has been going on for a long time now so I think it was her choice to leave. Its a good exit storyline though.

And if she was axed why would she return in 1993?

No way Simon was thousand times better then Hayden.

I never liked Hayden.

Does anyone miss Vanessa as Pippa?

Does anyone miss Vanessa as Pippa?

Its been nearly a year since Vanessa last appeared and yet I feel Debra has been in the role much longer than that. I don't Miss Vanessa at all

Really disliking the new headteacher. So the character is working then.

I dislike her too Rachel. :( She's so strict.

I'm also surprised that Blake's not around for his sister's rapid downfall. I would have that he would be. Which is a shame. :( Does he even know how deep she's really in??

I love that even after they had a relationship, Adam and Marilyn can still be firm friends. I love their scene together, Adam still has a soft spot for Marilyn and vice versa.

Now seen up to 830.Not really sure what to make of Sophie and David.Sophie is coming across as rather childish with the way she blew up at him and Marilyn, which doesn't say much for her ability to come with an adult relationship. And David saying he loved her came a bit out of the blue, I could understand him being attracted to her or wanting to date her but it seems a bit early for the L word.I'm not saying they shouldn't give it a go, they clearly get on well, but I haven't seen any real sign of it being some great love as yet.

Kind of given up on Karen since Revhead's been back, she's clearly blind to him as well as seeming to enjoy stealing for him a little too much.I really can't decide if the storyline's been building up to this or not.It seemed that after Revhead's previous stint, in which he was seen to be a bit dodgy but not obviously criminal and Karen was somewhat unlikeable but didn't do anything too bad, Karen seemed to settle down into being more or less her old self again only to suddenly grow shooting over the moral line in the space of a week.I can't really tell if it was always intended for Revhead to come back and be the catalyst for Karen turning bad or if the decision for her to leave was taken fairly late in the day and they suddenly resurrected that angle.I sort of get people's points about Blake, we have had scenes of him getting involved and trying to make Karen see sense only to be fobbed off but he's seemed to drop out of the storyline a bit recently.

Not really sure what to make of the porn storyline. You get some very odd inconsistent tones at times(I recall the oddly pitched "Everyone thinks Martin's dying" storyline).I'm assuming it was meant to be a comedy storyline but no-one seems to have told Denis Coard, Michael's angry outburst seemed a bit over the top and out of place.

And to be honest, not only am I not missing Vanessa, I'd pretty much forgotten that she used to play Pippa.Debra has well and truly made the part her own by now.
