I'm loving the early years at the moment. I hope Karen comes clean that she was the one driving the car and not Adam Although Nick, Alf and Ailsa already suspect her anyway. Sophie is going to be so upset when she finds out David is dead espicially when she finds out her best friend was at fault

It's quite dark at the moment! Karen living back with Alf and Ailsa, and all of them pretending they don't know it was Karen who killed David (and helped Revhead hurt Alf). Karen knows that they know, and they're all just playing this dangerous game of who will crack first.

Oh boo bloody hooo..... pooor Sophie *sniff sniff*. [sarcasm intended]

Anyway, haven't Karen and Sophie been drifting apart anyway, are they not so "best friends" anymore?

It is one of those odd coincidences of continuity that for some reason the show chooses to ignore rather than utilise that the father of Sophie's second child, and the guy she was last reported to be with, is the brother of the girl who caused the death of the father of her first child. And from what little reference we've had, it seems Blake and Karen are still on speaking terms.Am I the only one who wonders what the heck family gatherings must be like for the Dean/Simpsons?

Anyway, seen up to 840.I saw David's death when Channel 5 showed it last year and, while the moment of the crash was still pretty shocking, watching it in context you see just how much of a rush the show's in to get all the pieces in place.Karen causes a fatal car crash about two weeks after shacking up with Revhead.David gets killed about a week and a half after he and Sophie get together, barely enough time for Michael to act like a neanderthal and Donald to act like a Victorian patriarch.(All the adults really have overdosed on authoritarian pills lately.Would a sixteen-year-old dating a twentysomething even be considered unusual nowadays?)Sure, they were quite sweet together, but I'm not sure it really justifies David going down in history as the lost great love of Sophie's life. And while the closing moments of the episode were nicely emotional, it's hard to care much about David being dead when no-one else seems to.Donald takes a day off work and briefly considers that it might not have happened if he hadn't kicked David out before going back to business as usual.Lou seems to get over it as soon as Ryan turns up.And Michael, who I really haven't liked very much lately, astonishingly seems to be carrying on with the plan and expecting Sophie to get over David.I'm surprised he's not breaking out the champagne at getting rid of him.My opinion of Karen rarely rises above contempt that, despite the odd pang of conscience, she seems to see herself as the victim in all this.Alf and Ailsa aren't helping by going from one extreme to the other, burying their heads in the sand and convincing themselves Karen's turned over a new leaf:If they hadn't stopped the police questioning her when she was about to slip up, the accident might have been avoided.

As for David posthumously ruining Sophie's life...I think it's more accurate to say he changed it.Admittedly she's got about eighteen months of near-constant trauma coming up, but fast forward ten years and she seems pretty happy and well-adjusted.Oddly, as far as I can remember, she never named her son in 2003, we were finally told he was called David in passing when she reappeared in 2005.

Sally joining the nippers was a bit weird given her older self shows no interest in physical activity.Wonder if, despite Pippa's advice, she'll quietly drop it now she's lost interest in Peter.(I don't believe she ever kissed Mullet, by the way.)And Bobby's assessment of Haydn giving Blake unwanted help was a bit harsh.Thank goodness Alf is managing to get it right with one Dean.

If it is OK for 16-year-old (underage) girl to "date" a 26-year-old (who, by the way, ****s her, thereby technically committing statutory rape), then at what age is it acceptable to "date" a 26-year-old?

Yes good point. Especially in 2003 when Tamara was in it too. I remember her not liking Blake. But I think it was more to do with the fact it had just been her and Sophie for so long. Would have been more interesting and realistic if it was due to the fact his sister killed her Father!

I wonder if we see Donald feeling guilty at all. He practically threw David out and again, the accident wouldn't have happened if wasn't on his was to wherever.

Its funny because the next time Sally does show an interested in sport in when she starts up surfing in 1998. But that maybe because she was having it iff with the instructor.

Well, you could turn that round and say if it isn't okay for a 16-year-old (above the age of consent) girl to date a 26-year-old, when is it?Pippa herself admitted if Sophie was just a couple of years older, no-one would care. It's not statutory rape because she's sixteen, which is the age of consent in New South Wales and has been since at least 1900.Nick said a while back that Karen, who's the same age as Sophie, has crossed the line into adulthood in the eyes of the law and so they couldn't stop her going off with Revhead. If it was Blake or Haydn sleeping with her, no-one would call it statutory rape then so David being ten years older doesn't really make any difference.Age gap has no bearing on whether it's statutory rape or not.(At least, not once they're over the age of consent, a sixteen-year-old sleeping with a fifteen-year-old would probably be dealt with more leniently than if someone older did it.)
