There was a site, The Beachside Diner or something, that ran a poll in 1999. I can't find it at the moment, but I have a feeling Bobby came top. I think there's was just a straight "Who is your favourite character?"

Pretty GREAT to see 3 of my 5 faves in the top 20 ...... Rubes, Maddie and "Red" !!!!

Especially good that Ruby almost made the top 10 AND that all 3 were played by such SUBLIME actresses !!!!

Although I didn't vote for her, kinda a pitty that Joey didn't score any votes. I guess we all really liked the IDEA of Joey last time AND she and Charlie [aka Jarlie] were HOT together !!!!

3 of my top five has entered the list. I suppose the other 2 are in top 10. I had Morag on top, last time in 2010 she was at number 13 a tie with Jack Holden who has slipped down a lot now, and in 2008 she was number 11. So she is going to beat that. Aden was number 2 in 2010, he is not going to be that now. I am suprised that he seems to be in top 10, he was only on the show for 2 years and left australian/british screens for more than 2 years ago, and a lot of fans from that time have left this site. I suppose that Sally is still on the top, or?? Maybe Darryl Braxton is there, or Alf?

The top 10 are probably obvious, but it would be a huge slice of luck if you named then in the correct order.

I'm guessing: Sally as number one, Darryl as number 2 (I've noticed that he is very popular - I haven't seen much of him yet but I can already say that he is not going to be my favourite). Charlie as number 3, Alf as number 4, Morag - 5, Irene - 6, hmmm I am not able to guess all 10. Maybe Belle is at number 9 and Aden 10. Hmmmm who have I missed, maybe some of the current characters that I haven't seen yet. But I don't think this Harvey is in top 10

Wow, surprised to see Selina that high.Glad that Ruby placed so high(and higher than Romeo and Indi, despite apparent efforts to manipulate the viewers' sympathies, hah!).Nice to see Nicole in there as well. Despite being lumbered with some appalling stuff in her last year that made the fact we didn't get a Naden sunset ending even more disappointing, I was always rather fond of her.So that's three of my five in the Top 10, including one that I don't think anyone's mentioned...

The family unit they created for Roman was quite strange. Whilst I enjoyed the interaction between Roman and Morag, Roman and Aden, and finally Roman and Nicole I always felt that they missed the chance to explore an Aden and Nicole relationship by putting them together and expecting a brother/sister dynamic before we had the drama of Belle and Aden. (cue the million Adelle fans to argue with me).

I've never been entirely certain when Bevan Lee's stint ended so I may be totally wrong here but it always felt like he set up Aden and Nicole as a future couple only for it to be thrown out in a single episode where, after weeks of flirting with her and giving off an "interested" vibe, Aden is suddenly portrayed as too messed up by his abuse to have a relationship with her and decides not to bother. It seemed like Bevan had set up Leah and Belle running the Den as a new drop-in centre, with Belle becoming a sort of older sister figure to the other teens, only for that to be promptly closed down when he left, leaving Leah stuck in the kitchen again and Belle with nothing to do other than hook up with Aden. How successful that was is a matter of opinion.

Bevan Lee said in the interview he never meant Nic and Aden to hook up, it was just a set up to show how messed up Aden was. But I don't think he was responsible for how it went around the cliffhanger/Olympic one. He said more indirectly that he wasn't happy with the direction that storyline took.

Oh, that's disappointing.I suspected he was still in charge then but I hoped I was wrong.I think that was the first real wrong move they made with Aden's storyline, not so much the fact he didn't end up with Nicole(although that too)but with the way they seemed to reshape his character to fit the storyline and take it to an area they were obviously not going to maintain for long and would have to wimp out of (which they did). The point where Aden's character arc really went wrong was the business with Axel. Not sure how much involvement Bevan had in that but I've a feeling he was responsible for at least some of it.(I seem to remember someone saying at the time that the last thing he did was bring Kane and Kirsty back, which was around that time.)

God, I'm glad that Joey didn't poll a single vote. What a rubbish character and storyline that was. Made even more annoying by people on these boards going on and on about how amazing it was.

Great to see Shannon poll so well, she was one of my five. Selina was a bit of a surprise and I'd assumed she'd polled 0 but I did like her so that's ok. Vinnie!! Who didn't like Vinnie? Him and Sally might, in a way, be the two most popular characters ever in the sense that even if you don't like them, it's very hard to find someone who hated them. He's a character they've just never managed to replace imo. On the other hand, I've never liked Marilyn. Even rewatching episodes from the mid 90's, she's just "that woman with the annoying voice" to me. Ruby's an interesting one. I ended up quite liking her, but up until about late 2010 I absolutely despised her. Nicole was ok and much like RR, I really wish they'd hooked her up with Aden from the beginning and spared us decades (or so it felt like) of Adelle rubbish.

The next lot were a surprise-

Belle I wasn't expecting to be in the top 10 maybe in the twenties.

Irene hasn't had a storyline since 2005 but we all still love her anyway.

Morag has always been Morag but the next time we see her could she metion her daughter! If Cornelia returns in 2013 she could metion that Bobby has been dead for 20 years.

Alf needs to let go of the Diner and start shouting again!

But the big surprise had to be Fisher who must have been helped hugely by the 7two repeats and the 5* episodes as well.

Plus we have yet to see Sally yet. Or Greg. Wonder out of those two who got the most points. Hmmmm

Well, I couldn't guess that right.... and Oh... I forgot about Fischer....Hm Belle... I wouldn't have guessed her in top 10 before this countdown, is it over 3 years ago she died in Australia/british/Irish pace... It is actually about 18 months ago since she dissappeared from my screen too... And she was at number 4 in 2010, I guessed that she would have slipped down the slope together with her partner in crime. Well, alf at no 6 - he was 8th in 2010, Irene was second in 2008, fifth in 2010 and number 8 now just slipping very slowly....

Maybe it is better to have no storylines on their own, than to have a lot of storylines because then someone may not like them and sometimes a lot of storylines can do more harm than good if they are making the character act in a strange way .... Leah is only in 28th place and she has had a lot of storylines in the past two years, in 2010 after two quiet years she was at number 8! Morag Bellingham was more in it from 2008-2010 than she has for the last two years I suppose.... and she has gone up from 13 to 7th.

Hm.... then we now are missing Sally, Darryl Braxton, Charlie and Aden and I guess they are all in top 5 - but who is the fifth character.... Oh..., yes I think i know.... He is missing, but in top five... oh well.....

Hmmm.... OH.... I fear that Charlie and Brax is number 2 and 1, we are in the beginning of this horrendous relationship here... But maybe Sally is still going strong on top...

Now we get to the interesting part of the list.

Fisher is one of my all time favourites on the show perhaps due to my own background. His unique combination of discipline coupled with a great care and respect for his students hasn't really been replicated by ant of the other School Principals. The current one doesn't even come close. I still remember the lovely storyline that ended up in London where Fisher had invited Hayley to illustrate his book.

The other three, Alf, Morag and Irene are right up there and that's where they belong. Perhaps it would be good to see them with more storylines but despite that they give the show that sense of permanence and provide a solid foundation against which everything else happens. I do feel that in recent months both Alf and Irene have returned to their "Bay Elders " role where they are often seen interracting with you8nger and less experienced characters with wise counsel. I like that.

For me Belle was one half of the last of the "golden couples ". I haven't really invested in any of the pairings since. I realise Belle did wander through a number of relationships before settling on Aden but she did seem to do it with much more believability than those since. She also made the bedroom window famous as a romantic symbol. Others have used it since but not with nearly as much style.
