I wonder who'd win in a fight between Alf and Don. I reckon they'd be about the same myself. Don could handle himself.

I'd still back Alf to win. He still looks physically stronger compared to Don

Wellin 1995 before Alf punched him Fisher pushed Alf into a wall so he would certainly give Alf a thwack in a fight even if Alf may win by a margin due to being heavier. Alf would have won in a fight with Michael Ross or Tom Fletcher for instance.

Don and Alf are both very fiery and formidable men and were both often at the recieving end of pranks from the youngsters such as Jack, Shane and such. We have lost one of these 2 great men but at least Alf is still around and we may see the return of Don for a guest stint at any time.

Hm, the word 'iconic' to me in relation to characters from Home and Away indicates that they are so linked to the show that anyone, even those who don't watch, would recognise and link them to it. So Alf Stewart, would probably be more iconic because he's still there. Plus Alf is great and quite an individual - he has his own sayings, own way of talking. He was fantastic and had a much greater purpose when married to Ailsa, owned his stores and had lots of close mates (Fisher, Pippa, Michael/Tom and so on)...

Which do I like most? Fisher. I just think unfortunately the writers have neglected Alf as a character over the past years and he has lost a lot of the layers that made him so fantastic. Of course he's still iconic and legendary, but as a character, the writers have let him down by neglecting to develop him Imo. Whereas Fisher left at a time where he, Alf, Irene etc were actually still prominent, so they haven't really had the opportunity to mess him up.

I couldn't possibly agree with any of this more than I already do. With you 100%. It's great to have someone like Alf around and vital if possible but at the end of the day, I can never say that Fisher hung around to become a neglected character thankfully.

A very tough choice....both are iconic but I guess Alf because he's been around since the beginning-and it looks as though he's not going anywhere soon!

The vote may have been more neck and neck if Flatty was still in it I think. (Flathead, Flatty for short). Don and Alf are also very comic characters as well and often were at the recieving end of the jokes of the youngers, back in the days when H&A was a family show and not NCIS Sydney Suburbs lol. Also Don was a villain to begin with but mellowed upon his sons death. He still had a bit of his original villainous streak when pushed.

Just watched the scene where Donald breaks down in class after Bobby died, Swayed it for me. Although I think Alf and Ray Meagher is great, Fisher wins it for me. Just that bit better written, more of a complex characeter, and I believe Norman was one of the finest actors on the show ever.

Don dressing as a punk in 1989 is probably my most fave ever Don moments, hence my avatar. The 44 year old Don dressed as a 20 year old. Magic.

At times H&A did feel like The Donald Fisher Show or the Alf Stewart Show with them being main characters (with Pipp and Bobby as the leading females) and I like both Don and Alf equally but if I really had to choose one it would be Flathead.
