Pierced Musie Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 I've been using this smilie a lot but I think this deserves a double dose of . It shows just how much they actually care about H&A and the fans.
c120701 Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 So the power was out but Alf picked up the cordless landline phone to make a call?
Red Ranger 1 Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 That was Kim's episode, was it?I think I must be looking away from the screen at the wrong moment, either that or everyone's finding out from Twitter and they're not actually bothering to tell the people who just watch the episodes.(To be fair, I turned on halfway through the opening credits, did they announce it at the start?)Given the way they seem to be choosing the episodes(I swear they just glance at episode descriptions and see who gets mentioned in them), I expected it to be either Kim, who was unconscious throughout, or Cassie, who only appeared in one brief scene. Not sure that episode worked either in context or out of context, I guess as an opener to the whole week it worked but as a season premiere all it did was scoop up roughly half of the cliffhangers from the previous season and not do much with them.Guess the Kim stuff progressed a bit, although we still had to sit through half an episode of him lying outside a hospital and people just missing spotting him, but otherwise the only thing of significance was Cassie running out of the house in the first five minutes and characters wandering out to look for her and then wandering back again.Maybe that episode's been on too many times and familiarity's breeding contempt but I was finding very little to enjoy it, what with Amanda's wandering character development(give it a few months and we'll all be expected to forget about this and accept she's sort of nice now)and the way Beth throws a jug of water over here in a way that suggests they didn't want her hairstyle messed up.(Marks for Tony giggling along with the kids, bar Robbie, while Beth tries to convince them it's not funny though.) I'm kind of in two minds about the way Dani and Kane progressed in 2004, I think my main thought at the time was that it was better than 2003 and if they were both going to stay on the show then, however unlikely it was for them to suddenly be friends, it was better than them having their character development reset and them both coming across as unlikeable. The bit that always stuck in my mind was when Felix was stalking Dani and she hears someone outside, finds it's Kane and, instead of thinking that's not much better, she's relieved, I think that was the point where I thought "Oh, Dani's all right around Kane now?Okay."I think it worked because Home and Away is that sort of show where characters do get redeemed moderately successfully and the audience and characters do find themselves quite liking someone that they hated six months previous.
Pierced Musie Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 I definitely loved the way the semi-friendship progressed between Kane & Dani in 2004, especially when he started to show concern about her without a prompt from Kirsty. It came across as sincere when he told Felix to back off and tried his hardest to protect Dani (and others) from Sarah. It is a shame that all that progress was wrecked when they began writing Dani out (where they completely assassinated the character anyway). I always said that they did it all arse backwards. They should have had Kane trying to make amends with Dani in 2003 and then Kirsty naturally getting closer to Kane again. But they went for as OTT and predictable as possible, in the process making Dani's rape into a joke. I still remember certain posts on here where all the blame was put on Dani (and poor Rhys). I was one of them until I watched again (VHS is awesome!) and completely changed my view. Yes, 2004 is still one of my favourite years because it still makes me think. Can you tell todays episode just didn't interest me at all?
Summer_Bay_Sunshine Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 So we are celebrating Kim Hyde's sexiness with an episode where he's in a coma. That's just nuts! If you ask me the whole Summer Bay's Sexiest theme is nuts!! I do admit I am an Early Years fan but some of the episode choices so far have not been the best for the character that has been voted for. Come on 5* sure you can do a lot better than this... Anyway think we know the Braxton's will easily make top 5......yawn......
Red Ranger 1 Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 NEWS FLASH!Going by the EPG synopsis, today's episode is actually 3733.Which doesn't feature anyone in a bikini. It has still got Dani though.

James Martin Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 They are dire figures. Last year's classics picked up around 200k - much of it during the Olympics!

Can you tell todays episode just didn't interest me at all? I agree that would have been best if they had to bring Kane back. Personally, I think his storyline should have ended when he left Kirsty for her own good. That was his redemption and there was nowhere for the story to go after that. It just made no sense for Kirsty to want to get back with him after that and it made Kane look weak willed and selfish for leaving the love of his life because it was the right thing to do by her.....and then ignoring that and coming back anyway. I suspect that they made Kane into such a jerk in his return because the writers didn't want to take crap for "turning the rapist into a good guy". Which, funnily enough, everyone accused them of doing anyway (were these people even watching the show back then? He was a complete tool when he came back), so they might has well have actually turned him into a good guy and made his relationship with Kirsty slightly less unbelievable. Like, why would she want to be with such a pushy, demanding, bad tempered, aggressive criminal? And that's BEFORE you get into the whole "he raped her sister" thing. God, what they did to that couple still really pisses me off. The original storyline really was fantastic. It took two pretty unlikeable characters and them bring out the best in each other in a way that was original, interesting, raised a lot of questions about the concepts of forgiveness, redemption etc and you could really see it from everyone's point of view so even though I was a KK shipper I never hated Rhys and Shelley for trying to break them up. Bringing Kane back ruined about 5 characters (Kane, Kirsty, Dani, Rhys and Seb), which has to be a record for 1 storyline.
