Just done some research about Judy Nunn's absence in 2000 and have dug up the following news piece from the old homeandaway.org site.

"

'Home And Away' star JUDY NUNN undergoes emergency operation

So peaceful and self-assured as 'HandA' actress Judy Nunn normally walks over the screen, so nervous and afraid she was during her short vacation in the Australian Darwin. Terrible stabs of pain in her abdomen forced her to go to hospital.
Judy Nunn who plays the role from Ailsa in HandA was at the beginning off the new season from Home And Away the greatest absentee. In stead of returning to the set after her vacation, she had to stay solitary in a hospital room in Sydney. There she recovers from a major operation where a big tumour was been removed from her abdomen
Emergency
The actress had imagined her vacation in the woody Darwin a bit else. Judy, who is famous in Australia with her moving books, stayed with her husband Bruce a few days in an isolated hut for working on a new story. 'Without any reason I felt some heavy pain in my abdomen', reviews Judy. Bruce brought her in panic to the local hospital where they discovered the tumour. On advice from the involved doctors she was taken as soon as possible to Sydney, where the tumour has been removed during an emergency operation. Lucky it was a good-natured tumour, witch had the size of a melon."

So we were both wrong, assuming this fan site had the correct information back in 2000.

The moment I realised I was old.... reading a H&A fansite from 2000, finding a small piece (not the one I posted) particuarly amusing, then suddenly realising it was me who wrote it!! Seems I've been writing about/commenting on H&A for around 13/14 years now, nearly half my life :o

Something else I've just read on the old site, it mentions how during the 2000-style credits some of the characters (Ailsa, Irene and Don?) occasionally see a CGI shark swim past instead of the usual tropical fish, and react accordingly. Anyone have any idea which specific episodes these shark visitations are on? One is presumably relatively soon on 5*'s early years (or perhaps already shown now) as it appears from the site it was shown in Oz around the same time ITV were bringing H&A to an end for 13 months in the UK.

I remember the shark occasionally appearing. I also remember Fisher throwing a paper aeroplane which flies out of his "moving box" and across the screen.

I think there may be one coming up soon but most of them happened while the show was still on itv in the earlier part of 2000

I've used the alt.tv group posts from 2000, the homeandaway.org old site and the episode guides on backtothebay, plus more than a little detective work to come up with this list of known variations to the 2000 credits, which began at episode 2756, the first episode of 2000. All dates are the Oz broadcast dates, although both the UK and Ireland were within a few days of OZ (Ireland's RTE actually getting ahead of Oz at one point and then being suitably ticked of for doing so), so their dates won't be much different.

1. 2760 (4/2/2000) Shark surprises Irene
2. ?2781-6 (6-10/3/2000 exact day unknown) Shark surprises Donald
3. 2802 (4/4/2000) Shark surprises Irene
4. 2813 (19/4/2000) Shark surprises Ailsa
5 2835 (19/05/2000) Donald throws a paper plane at us

I have read in more than one place on my original 2000 sources that there was an, at the time, unbroadcast alternate version of Alf being surprised by the shark, but I don't know how true the persistent rumour was or even if it was whether they used it after the rumours of its existence.

There may well have been something on episode 2824 that went un-noticed by fans at the time, since there seems to be a pattern of every eleventh episode from #s 3 to 5, and an overall pattern of moving on one weekday each time (suggesting #2 was probably 2781), the first time being a Friday, then possibly Monday through to Friday with the rest. Not sure if there were anymore after this though, but I will try to watch the starts of all the 5* eps so far, with particular attention on 2857 and 2868 to see if my every 11th ep pattern holds up. I'm also trying to find the file I kept on Home and Away at the time (yep I was 'that' sad as a teen), as I used to print all sorts of webpages from back then that have since been taken down or only exist as selected/edited archives). I'm pretty sure I have a list of all the major changes (character adds and removes) to credits from 2000-2004/5ish i the file somewhere as it helped form the basis of a page still on this site, but the current page doesn't include the episode numbers of each change.

Went through a batch of 2000 episodes a while back and can confirm the above dates are pretty much correct, though the 2nd one was 2782 and I have 2803 for the 3rd. I've also got 2834 for the paper plane. Still need to digitise those eps at some point when I get another hard drive, so that info will all be confirmed and up on the site in some form when I do.

Wednesday 11th Sept 2013 (14-07-00/17-07-00)
2874

Kirsty and Nick unite to get revenge on Tasha. Colleen may finally have gotten what she wished for. Will and Dani experience another obstacle to their friendship.
2875
Peta and Edward bid their sad farewell to Summer Bay. Colleen finally softens towards Les. Judith seeks comfort in Joel.

Did anyone's 5* crash on the Wednesday just gone? As mine sadly had gone and never got to see episode 2875:( I've emailed Channel 5 if there's anyway of repeating these episodes on a later timeslot!

On a positive side, loving the summaries:)

No Wednesday was fine for me (Oxford trans.) but the signal completely switched off during the second ep on Thursday while I happened to be watching live as well as recording it, it was during the ad break and I managed to sort it out by switching it off and back on just in time to restart the record on the second half, but unfortunately found out afterwards that the crash or reboot had caused the first half not to be saved :-(
Back when these eps first aired I had a fair few problems with the analogue Channel Five signal, and now it appears I'm gonna have a few probs with the same eps because 5* seems to be a low power or unreliable mux.
