Do you think it's impossible to fix any of the recent characters e.g. MacGuires?

No it's not impossible at all.  I do not believe that it's impossible to fix any of the recent characters.  I've posted in another thread.

I'd start by beginning to explore the characters in other scenarios other than relationships.  Why haven't we seen more of Phoebe and Matt's music or Maddie's for that matter.  I suggest the writers need to explore those parts of the characters back stories.  Why haven't the writers had them get together to make music.

Why hasn't Josh's artistic talent been explored?

That would be a start.

I completely agree John. IMO Zac has come a long way from where he was, even if it did happen a bit fast. I think Evie is getting there, she's the most likeable and dimensional (Phillipa is fantastic with ad-lib which adds to this). Oscar and Hannah could be better used, and maybe the only option for them is the "clear out" .

maybe this clear out could minimise our current ageous cast, where everyone is either 17, mid 20s or raising the former mentioned characters. John and Maz should have a 7-10yo foster kid maybe bring in some age related friends for Alf and Irene

On another note, who is Incharge of hiring TPTB?

I loved those from the Bay to LA episodes, esp that 2001 episode, a time when H&A was firing on all cylinders again. A time when H&A was warm, charming, with some darkness and very occasional destruction. A great combination, everything Neighbours is now. I am sure H&A will recover, I remain positive, I am noticing a gradual ebbing away of the crime aspect even if there is still a long way to recovery.

I would axe Nate, Phoebe, Maddy and Andy. And if I was producer I would bring in a new family with a few foster children who were like the original teens, rebellious but very watchable like Alison, Carly and Roo, the amusingly loose cannons of the 1980s . And bring back Stevo or Emma Jackson.

When Lucy started working she mentioned that she would like to bring back Dannii Minogue. And Dannii is open minded about the idea. What's the problem then, that we are yet to see her?

Well, I said I wasn't going to do a hit list but seeing as everyone else is, here's my thoughts on the characters who seem to be in line: Until quite recently, I've thought Ricky was becoming irrelevant but if they axe her now then that'll just be another case of a woman leaving as soon as she gives birth, so I'll give her a bit longer to see if she still fits in.Same with Matt: After two years of being largely directionless, he's starting to feel likes he belongs at Leah's place instead of being a character that might as well live anywhere, so give that a bit more time.Ash has potential if the show resists the temptation to use him as a substitute Brax, which sadly a few recent episodes have been doing: Keep an eye on that.Andy... well, to say he's become irrelevant would imply he was relevant in the first place:The character's never been sustainable long term, the rather desperate attempt to give him a personality transplant is faintly laughable, he should go.Phoebe...I'm up and down with her but in truth she's never really felt essential and it's long past the point where other characters suffer because of the desire to accommodate her, needs to go.Denny I'm disappointed with, she had potential but has been very poorly served, used as a plot device to sustain other characters, first with the Casey nonsense last year and now the on-off thing with Ash.I'd like her to stay but she needs better writing.Zac I'm hoping will stay around as long as possible, otherwise he'll just be another of Leah's transient love interests.Hannah, after a decent start the character hasn't worked out:Needs to go.Oscar and Evelyn can stay, Oscar is one of the better teens even if he's been a bit quiet lately, Evelyn I find annoying a lot of the time but I'm willing to give her a chance.Maddy is one of my favourites so if they try and axe her they'll have me to answer to, and thankfully it's reached the point where the unremitting hostility against her from many viewers that sprung up when she was portrayed unsympathetically last year has ceased.Nate and Kat I'm on the fence with:I'm fully expecting them to be forgotten within twelve months of leaving but maybe give them a chance.

The other thing is if Hannah were to leave it'd give Leah & Zac a new dynamic as presumably we'd end up with them parenting VJ, Oscar, Evelyn and Matt. A very full household, but lots to keep them busy.

I agree, they could fix mutliple issues in one go by consolidating those two households - thinning out the McGuires and bringing Leah and Zac together. I've found it difficult to warm to Hannah, and Andy just doesn't add anything useful, his character is all over the place. So, get rid of Hannah and Andy and have Zac and Leah, plus 4 teens under their roof - much more like a traditional H&A set-up. Then when those teens decide to leave, I think it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Leah and Zac to take in a few more wayward teens.

Get rid of the remains of the Braxton household, and/or random characters like Nate and Katarina, and bring in a grandchild for Irene, a new man, perhaps with a child, for Roo and another foster child or two to fill up Summer Bay House again. Bring Morag back as a sparring partner for Alf and Irene, re-introduce some warmth and humour, and then I think H&A is back to where it should be.

100 pages, and is H&A really any better than when this discussion started? :)

We may slowly be getting there, I think we could have been saved a lot of pain if hannah was just killed from the bus crash.
