Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

I agree, they could fix mutliple issues in one go by consolidating those two households - thinning out the McGuires and bringing Leah and Zac together. I've found it difficult to warm to Hannah, and Andy just doesn't add anything useful, his character is all over the place. So, get rid of Hannah and Andy and have Zac and Leah, plus 4 teens under their roof - much more like a traditional H&A set-up. Then when those teens decide to leave, I think it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Leah and Zac to take in a few more wayward teens.

Get rid of the remains of the Braxton household, and/or random characters like Nate and Katarina, and bring in a grandchild for Irene, a new man, perhaps with a child, for Roo and another foster child or two to fill up Summer Bay House again. Bring Morag back as a sparring partner for Alf and Irene, re-introduce some warmth and humour, and then I think H&A is back to where it should be.

100 pages, and is H&A really any better than when this discussion started? :)

We may slowly be getting there, I think we could have been saved a lot of pain if hannah was just killed from the bus crash.

And I don't think I would've cared about Brax's criminal activity as much if Morag returned every time to keep him out of gaol :P

Getting rid of characters?

Let's keep Alf and Irene and scrap the rest.   Admittedly it would be a bit boring after a time just watching Alf and Irene with no-one else around but at least we could guarantee them some screen time.

I like that idea. :)

There have been a few good suggestions as to how to sort the problems the show faces and all it would take is for issues pertaining to the writing be addressed and really explore the characters and make them likeable. First and foremost, they need to scrap Lucy Addario, who has to be the worst producer the show has ever had.

If Alf and Irene were the only two left in the town then they would surely have to get jiggy with it :P

Why??

Haven't you heard of people managing to be friends without ending up in bed with each other?

They are the last people in Summer Bay not the last people on the planet! Not everything has to end up that way....

Do you think it's impossible to fix any of the recent characters e.g. MacGuires?

No it's not impossible at all.  I do not believe that it's impossible to fix any of the recent characters.  I've posted in another thread.

I'd start by beginning to explore the characters in other scenarios other than relationships.  Why haven't we seen more of Phoebe and Matt's music or Maddie's for that matter.  I suggest the writers need to explore those parts of the characters back stories.  Why haven't the writers had them get together to make music.

Why hasn't Josh's artistic talent been explored?

That would be a start.

Agreed. I think one of the main mistakes that the show has made over the last few years is to focus solely on relationships. Within 2 seconds of a character being introduced, they are paired off with a character, and their character is never developed beyond their role as part of a relationship. This is especially true of the females e.g Phoebe, Ricky, Hannah, Kat etc.. The second problem is that these relationships are so rushed, that it is hard to even be invested in the relationship. I struggle to think of any couple in the last few years that has mounted much of a fan response ala Belle/Aden or Charlie/Brax.

I would like to see the writers get rid of some of the deadwood. I would like to see all the relationships ended except for John/Marilyn and Zac/Leah. I would then like to see the characters be developed more as individual with interests and aspirations. In addition, I would like to show to develop genuine friendships between the characters rather than just having characters confide to characters they have never spoken to before because it is convenient, only for that character to have a new BFF the next week.
