Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

The show is just knackered, it is tiresome and all because of Lucy and Louise, Louise has left but we still have the devil producer, the lady who is obsessed with baddies. Get rid of the filmic look, stop having just sidelights on in the sets and bring back the much missed humour and pranksters we had in the 80s and 90s and much of the Noughties.

Agree about the rest, but the bolded statement makes me wonder if you want the show to exactly like in the 90s or just modern interpretation of what it is about. I don't think there are any shows that still have videotape look, maybe only American daytime soaps.

Oh seriously enough with the shots at the producers. It is like blaming the coach for a teams poor form. Blame needs to go elsewhere not just the producers. Saying Lucy is running the show is just pure speculation, I am sure she is not purposely sabotaging the show. I am watching it and enjoying it, don't really see a difference, but I guess I am not knick picking at every small minor detail like some do. Times change, what you saw on this show in the 80's and 90's no longer works in todays scheme of things. What you saw on H and A in the nineties woulden't work or would be watchable today imo. It is a prime time tv show, crime, danger e.t.c. Is what people these days want to see. Shows like CSI, GOT, Breaking Bad e.t.c. Are very popular. That is not to say H and A should be driven totally by that, but I have no problem with doses of that. The majority love that aspect to home and away presently, clearly the traditional fans not so much lol. But your living in the past if your expecting to go backwards, they need to remember their past but focus on the present, and little things like remembering Nicole, or pictures of Belle on Irenes fridge are enough continuity for me anyway. The shows community feel is returning, and the teen group has been the best change in home and away since 2008.

Just as I was replying the previous post, I have to say, that I got impression from a lot of other members that they don't want to go back to the 80s or 90s. They want to have modern interpretation of what the show was originally about. And judging from the discussions, Bevan Lee succeeded doing that in 2008.

One of those "Producers" is gone and Bennett's doing his LEVEL best, as I said the man doesn't have a magic wand.

He may be going round in circles repeating plots but sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward. Shows take time to heal.

That said we need a better Comedy/Drama balance. Ray said it best when said the show needed more belly laughs. However, I've seen misfires when they've made soaps too light-hearted (EastEnders 1989, Coronation Street 2005).

Not everything in H&A need solved with a gun or a knife or getting John Law involved. At least it never.

I think they need better writers that can refresh the show and write better storylines. The reason we have so many dull and boring characters is because its how they were written. The show needs a complete revamp to make it all fresh again. They need to bring back the opening titles, get rid of the violence and crime and bring in new characters that actually aren't models or famous people. The reason why earlier episodes of Home and Away worked so well was because it had a mixture of characters and teenagers looked like teenagers, not 20 year olds trying to be teenagers. They need to bring back storylines that don't include violence, crime, drugs etc. To me, it seems like they are trying to drag on the Braxtons era by adding new bad boys and bringing them back, but the Braxtons had their time. They need to move on and revamp it and make the show bright again because right now, the show is dark, depressing and not enjoyable to watch.

The way, I see it, and that is how expected, Dan is not heading the direction that was in 1988-2004, but rather what was in mid-late 00s. Lots of baddies, crazy over the top stories, but just like in mid 00s and not like in 2012-2015 they are written in an interesting way.

I think that last half of 2005-first half of 2007 have a lot in common with 2011-2015. A lot of baddies popping up, bad follow up on certain storylines. But unlike 2011-15, 2005-2007 had some good and grounded characters with a better development than 2011-15 characters. So agree with you on that. But I haven't seen Dan Benetts work yet, I think because we are 5 months behind Australia here. We have just seen the Anzac storyline here.

In general 2011-13 were bad years, but they still had some good moments too; even if one set of characters were dominating too much. I liked the first year of Jet, and I loved Gina and John, Gina's death was ok done even if there were too much other storylines in her funeral episode. And I enjoyed some of Heath's journey. At least he had some development and that made him interesting for me even if I think he and Bianca weren't the best match. And I enjoyed the Walkers from time to time. But there were too much nonsense storyline, too much violence and storyline that had no realism and went in circles (Brax, Casey, Kyle) and some storylines that were about nothing and went nowhere (Marilyn, Roo, Harvey).

But 2014 and first half of 2015 I have almost given up on H&A. No direction, the same old all the time. The only storyline that had something was the storyline about Maddy and her cancer. The show seems totally without direction and all the characters feel kind of helpless. I hope it changes, but Dan is probably not the right person to change totally it since he was responsible for the mess in 2005-2007. In my opinion Last half of 2007 and 2008-2009 were far better years with more focus on the characters. But still 2005-2007 were more interesting than now.

I think what makes H&A seem worse than it is, is the harsh music used for scenes that are not that dramatic. If they culled the harsh music, then the show would seem a lot lighter. Out of the soaps still on air Emmerdale, EastEnders and H&A are the 3 most topical soaps in my opinion and always have been in many ways, but with a warm heart and charm as well. H&A is lacking that at the minute. But I am pleased to think that H&A is better than this time last year. I still stick by the shows side.
