Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

I'm really enjoying HAA as of late but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about what'll happen once Dan's time is done.I fear it'll go back to the same old messy state it's been in for years.

It needs someone who knows the history of the show and understands how to incorporate it into the present which shouldn't be to hard seeing most of those issues are still  relevant today, but until recently the last several years have only seen people want to change the show, and not for the better.

I guess we'll find out come August.

What's happening in August?.

Is that when a new producer is announced? Not sure.

It's when the new Script Exec's material will start airing following Dan Bennett's tenure.

It's probably a very different show compared to where it was in 2006, but give EastEnders another shot.

I'm not familiar with much of the history of the show, but I have been watching regularly since 2014 and it has become my favourite soap. Apparently it was in a terrible state prior to the current Series Producer taking over towards the end of 2013, and has improved dramatically since. It's a good example of what can be done through good story-telling and (largely) respectful reference to the past.

Really? Looking at comments online it seems it's subject to just as many "The current producer is ruining the show!" comments from fans as Home and Away is, with a popular opinion being that he's trampled over the show's history, retconning important details and ruining long-term characters and families, is entirely dependent on shock tactics to keep interest and introduces storylines that drag on for years with no resolution in sight...

H&A does not seem to trample over its history like Neighbours does. With a long running show there are going to be continuity errors such as in 1988 when Celia said Roo was her only niece and yet Rebecca magically was created, Celia's sister's daughter by Flathead. But unlike other soaps H&A does not rewrite its history to suit current plots. It seems to remain intact. Neighbours and EE are guilty of rewriting history, such as the Ramsay Retcon and casting Ally Fowler as another character rather than Zoe Davis. That would be like Danni Minogue returning to H&A as John Palmer's sister or something. Corrie, Emmerdale, Shortland Street, Hollyoaks, and H&A seem to leave the past in the past which is good.

I wouldn't speak too soon, we've already had former main cast member Andrew/Charlton Hill return as a one-ep guest a couple of years back, and we'll also be seeing another former regular returning as a (presumably) different character later this year:

Dan, who is the pic of? The face on the left looks familiar but I can't place the name. I'm somehow assuming the person you meant is on the right though.

The one on the right is John Adam who played Luke Cunningham

Wow! I would never have recognised him as John Adam, and I'm usually good with faces! Maybe I would if I saw him in an ep though! At least that's better than Ally Fowler in Neighbours who still looks exactly the same as she did when she played her previous character.

Surprised to see John back.
