I wouldn't speak too soon, we've already had former main cast member Andrew/Charlton Hill return as a one-ep guest a couple of years back, and we'll also be seeing another former regular returning as a (presumably) different character later this year:

Dan, who is the pic of? The face on the left looks familiar but I can't place the name. I'm somehow assuming the person you meant is on the right though.

The one on the right is John Adam who played Luke Cunningham

Wow! I would never have recognised him as John Adam, and I'm usually good with faces! Maybe I would if I saw him in an ep though! At least that's better than Ally Fowler in Neighbours who still looks exactly the same as she did when she played her previous character.

Surprised to see John back.

And then there's the second actor to play Nathan coming back recently. Obviously have no plans to reunite a character that's been in it over 20 years and her first son. That would be like Ben Mitchell in eastenders leaving and then several years later him returning as a new character.

I.generally dont mind when characters are played by new actors. Or actors play New characters. If its recent enough. I enjoyed Jordy Lucas as Summer. Im.enjoying the actress playing Olivia. Well tbh I had no idea Olivia wss a pre existing character haha. But any way. Doesent bother me too much. A bit when they recasted Haley. Or the ridiculousness which is Vjs recasting. My god that is stupid lol. Dan Ewing played a character involved with Matilda Hunter for a while. But now played Heath. I guess it works. When you werent ThAt memorable haha.

There have been several cases when a former actor is showing up as a new character.

I don' mind when the actor played a really small role the first time around that doesn't have an impact, just like Dan Ewing who played a guy who talked with Mattie in a couple of episodes a few years before he showed up as Heath Braxton. And Shane Whittington was a pilot in the plane crash in 2006 before he showed up as John Palmer in 2009. These characters didn't have an impact at all (the pilot, and the guy with Mattie).

But I can't take to the new principal at all. Paul Gleeson played  Aden's dad in 2008-2010, and he is Larry Jeffries to me. The storyline about Aden was far too hard hitting, to recast Paul Gleeson in a new role some years later. And Matt's dad... He used to be Irene's son Nathan. I can't help feeling that this actor should have returned as Irene's son instead. There could have been a plot that Matt was Irene's unknown grandson, would have been good.

I agree that the impact matters to a big extent.I had a hard time accepting the recast VJ at first but I've got used to him.I still haven't really accepted the recast Olivia: She was a memorable character, who was the daughter of an even more memorable character, yet I can't see a trace of the old Olivia in this new version. It probably doesn't help that neither VJ nor Olivia were written anything like the old version and were actually quite unlikable. On the other hand, I accepted Georgie Parker as Roo instantly because she was written as Roo: You could imagine Justine Clarke playing the scenes in a way that you really couldn't with "VJ" and "Olivia".(I managed to like Summer in Neighbours to start with without really accepting her as the same character. Then I went off her big time so I try and pretend they were different characters because I really liked the original.)

Paul Gleeson was a very odd casting but it hasn't really bothered me as much as I expected, possibly that's another one I've got used to.One that did stand out was when the guy that played Vinnie's dad appeared in two episodes as a random tramp: He'd been in the show on and off over several years and was instantly recognisable, the entire audience was expecting a twist where it was the same character.Oddly I felt the same when Nate's dad turned up and it was that property developer that conned John a few years back, you could instantly tell it was the same person.Nathan Mark 2 turning up as Matt's dad on the other hand: He'd been in it for a few weeks 12 years previous, I wouldn't even have noticed if I hadn't read it.Similar with Andrew/Charlton Hill and John Adam, I think they've changed enough physically that you don't instantly think of their old character and have to look really hard to tell (John Adam popped up in Neighbours a couple of years back and no-one recognised him), whereas with Ally Fowler on Neighbours she looks and acts exactly the same.
