Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

I was about to post in the actual thread but it was moved to here first...

For those who watch EastEnders, there is a new EP (Dominic-Treadwell-Collins) who last night gave several interviews detailing his vision for the show and what he plans to do with characters. He is planning to 'shake up' the programme and take it into the 21st century.

Now, those are good things to hear from any new producer of a TV show, whether they deliver is another matter. Needless to say, Dominic is a man who is passionate for EastEnders and wants to put in the maximum effort.

How long has it been since Home and Away had a producer (or Script Producer) who actually seemed to have a passion and a vision for the show and its future? The vibes I get from Lucy and Louise is that they are doing it because they have to produce 5 episodes of TV a week, not because they have a love and vision for Home and Away in the long-term. In interviews they don't seem to go into any great detail about characters or what's in store for them, which is a shame and makes them look bad IMO.

I think it's time for a shake-up. Do you think that Home and Away will get a producer who understands the past and how to take the show forward? It's vital for H&A's future that this happens (and soon) or I fear that it'll be on borrowed time.

This new producer for Eastenders... is this the guy who is bringing in Danny Dyer as the new pub owner?

I'll leave now I think .

Yep.

Wouldn't be my first choice but you can't write him off for one signing. It's not the first time a well-known actor has been cast in a soap! Babs Windsor anyone? Mike Reid?

He was responsible for Stacey Slater's bipolar storyline so I think he'll be great. :D

I absolutely agree that there doesn't seem to be much passion in Lucy/Louise's work. They could be working on Dawson's Creek or Saved by the Bell, they don't really seem to 'get' what Home and Away is.

I think they would be suited to the one episode per week self contained dramas, like All Saints etc. I think it takes a different kind of producer to write an ongoing soap with a rich history like H&A.

To tell you the truth I am happy with the way the show is heading.

I really like the new characters that have arrived in the last year and I am looking forward to seeing them next year.

I wonder if the show hasn't lasted for too long. It started from the Fletcher family's point of view. It could have finished once Pippa or Sally left. Characters that should prove that it's the same show are used very minimaly. New characters are often written inconsistently. The storylines where everyone sleeps with everyone are too repetitive. As well as break up make up thing. The writters should really take a look at foilers thread in spoiler section. It doesn't feel that the show would have any direction. Maybe it's because I haven't watched constantly for 25 years. But really there should be more attention paid to characters, not to change them to suit any storyline they come up with. Also I suspect that they haven't done their homework by studying the history of older characters. Like when Celia returned, there was no mention of her religious belief which was strange as religion played a very big part in her life. Sally was also painted as a saint durinjg her return and I wonder if she was always like that as an adult because she certainly wasn't as a child. While watching Irene, if would have to tell what did I learn about her from 2012-2013 seasons is that she's a nice woman, always serving coffee and giving advice. But at least now we will be seeing more of her with her new housemates. Alf is also portrayed as too nice. I liked when he was angry at Josh, because it is in hius character to be like that at someone who causes trouble, but then again, shouldn't he be like that with Braxtons too?

I was an avid fan in 1994 in the UK and I could really relate to Shane, Angel, Damo, Nathan, Sarah, Tug, Selina and Jack always being barked at by Don at school and Alf outside school for trying to get one over on those two. It was required viewing and as a lot of the show was involved in storylines surrounding Sumemr Bay High, H&A for me in 1993-1995 felt like real life, too much like real life I think.

Sad new that Louise Bowes may be around for a couple more years. I;d love her and Lucy to go or get their cards off the Cahnnel 7 bosses and get a producer who respects H&A. Neighbours has improved under Richard Jasek. Before him Neighbours was in a rut to me. H&A needs a Richard Jasek type producer.
