Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

YOu know say what you want about Lucys era post 2010. None of it was boring, The Braxtons gave some of the most exciting albiet Dirrevitive haha tv on Australia TV. Now people are free to dislike what the Braxtons brought to the show, making it crime driven. But I tend to agree with the sentiment, that bad is better then being boring.

I agree with that, these last 5 years with the Braxtons where very exciting, now when they are gone I fear the show will go back to how it was in 2010 /:

I thought around 2011-2012 was like a golden era for Home and Away in the modern age. But Post 2013, the continued focus on The Braxtons kinda took away the balance to the show. While from a characterization pov, I understand some say oh it was boring. Just depends if your looking at it from a nostalgic pov. While at times I disliked The Braxtons heavily. Some of the storylines were riviting stuff haha. The Casey death scene, was one of the most saddest moments in the shows history. Now they are gone, it feels lke H and a are in a transisitonal periord. Trying to regain its Identity back. For a bit last year in 2015, they got back on track. Now they have lost their way again. That bit in last year with Ed Sherran, and the whole Charlotte stuff was the show at its best. They need to go back to that.

I agree on that 2015 was a really great year for the show :)

I'm probably the biggest Braxton fan on this forum and the onlyone who think they saved the show :P

How long have you actually seen the show. You keep going on with 2010, but Home and away had existed for 22 years before that. It was good before late 2005-2006, and it was also good in 2008, it was even better in 2009 than it was in 2010.

I actually see 2011 and the Braxton era a follow up to 2010. Because it felt like they planned to make a weak year and then make the show as controlled and promoted as possible so they could control what people like. Just to avoid criticism like they got in 2009 - but most of it was totally undeserved! The year mystery storyline overshadowed the rest in Australia, because that storyline got to much promotion without planning what they were going to do with the storyline. So people's expectation became too high and that storyline went wrong because it wasn't exactly very well executed. But there were a lot of other things going on in 2009 which got a lot attention in the other countries. For instance Jack's death - which was really huge, Aden and Belle's relationship and more. I just think that if they had focused more on those both in media and in the show, the whole show and it's actors (and their private lives) wouldn't have got the attention they got.

But it's probably easier to have the show controlled in media with big blows and bangs which gets huge attention than writing good storylines which could give the same attention. And probably a lot more easier. H&A has been on air for so long, so everything have become a habit and the heart, and the real feelings for H&A is far gone in the Australian media circus and show business.

Since the 2001 episodes which where airing in Norway in 2003. So I've seen how the show went from being good then to better until 2009 then in 2010 I in my opinion felt that the show was becoming boring then the Braxtons popped up and I fell in love with the show again. Honestly, it took me a long time to get over the fact that they killed Jack and it didn't make it any easier to watch when Martha went over to someone else so fast, and watching Tony griev over these months was depressing to watch :(. I get that we have a completely different opinion on the Braxton era and I'm fine with that :) I have been thinking about trying to watch the episodes from 1988 to 2001 but it's gonna take me over a year :P I feel that Home and Away from 2000 onwards is like a sequel series. Two Home and Away series

I have to say alot of the new characters are not appealing me all that much atm. I really like Billie the most. But their always a recycle of characters, and new ones coming in. Funny prob disliked the characters 3 years ago, now I miss them haha.

Spoiler

Prob in minority but really miss Maddy. I think people who have watched for years, were used to the format, when that changed, obviousley their perception of the show skewed a bit. 2015 was a really good year. 2016 is watchable, and with all the Braxtons, now the Barretts gone. Seems to going to back to where it was even in 2008.

H&A is more watchable and bearable than 2 years ago. I am more used to the current format a bit I suppose, it has toned down moderately. Still has a lot of flaws but nice to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

I would have agreed with you up until recently, they did seem to be toning down the crime and bringing back the family aspect, but we seem (at UK pace) now to just be served up on a daily basis a lot of random relationship storylines, which are in no way interesting, We have the unbelievable Ricky/Nate scenario, who seemed to get married out of nowhere and 5 minutes later it looks like the marriage is on the rocks already. Ash and Kat - are another relationship I find hard to believe. As for the teens, who knows who's going out with who any more. I think not having Marilyn, Alf or Irene about is not helping either.. is Alf Home or Away (excuse the pun) at the moment? He seems unfortunately a bit of a spare part these days, so he could be there and I haven't noticed.

OK so the crime has been toned down a bit for now, but they don't seem to have anything interesting to put in its place, now that the Charlottte mystery has pretty much been wrapped up. I guess H&A is in a bit of a transitional phase right now. Hopefully it will settle down again soon. But I think the best years of the series are far behind it, as we approach the 30th Anniversary. That might be a good point to stop watching if things don't improve somewhat.
