Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

2004 was probably the last good year. Even though The Stalker storyline happened, it was a good year overall. After that common opinion is the show hit a slow decline.

With the exception of the first quarter, maybe even first half of 2008, I don't think the show has had a truly great period since.

In general first quarter of 2008 was good and had some excellent storylines, but it also had some less good and bad ones too, in my opinion.  Some storylines were over the top and not good for example Johnny stabbing Sally (which was a recycled storyline) and especially Sam storyline and the pastor Hall storyline.  But I have always thought the second quarter was better. It was good until the Olympic Cliffhanger, then it went over the top, but it still had some good parts in it.

But I  liked Sally's final week and I loved "Colleen finding out she was a Stewart" storyline. And I liked Annie, Geoff and Adens storylines.

I started to watch H&A regularly again in the last half of 2007, it became much better around the time when Annie/Geoff were introduced. I think that 2008 was a good year overall, and 2009 wasn't that bad as many said. It had some bad ones, but still had good and well developed storylines and characters.

I feel the show lacks emotions - something that has been missing since late 2009, early 2010. And when we get something sad or happy storylines, they have very soon been over and we have been back to stalker, triangles and monotone storylines.

I want more emotions, more character development, and family and friends troubles. I want to know the characters before they are getting in a relationship, and I want the characters to know each other. I miss more natural development of things and happenings.

Exactly. H&A used to develop the characters so well, so that even if they were out of line or doing bad deeds, you could empathise with them. Characters came first and the plots naturally followed, and even if they were a bit OTT, that was OK. At one time, relationships were meaningful and believable. You can just imagine the storyliners playing "spin the bottle" once a month to mix up all the relationships.

Now everything is plot driven, going from one crisis to the next, and characters are just parachuted into storylines at random. Then these storylines reach a dramatic climax, and the fallout lasts a couple of episodes, then it's back to business as usual.

I don't know i thought 2008 was great. Your definition of a great periord can vary. 2004 is a bit exagerrated. I mean i thought 2011 was a great year, but that is just me. I Thought last year was the best year, in a while. You had that balance back, with normal people feeling danger in their lifes with Charlotte. Felt like The Summerbay kids all over again, with Ed Sherran e.t.c. But then lately its become very crime driven again.

Spoiler

I mean with The Morgans in Witness Protection, they feel just kinda like Braxtons 2.0 to me.

That is gonna bring alot more crime into the show imo. It is like with Matt annd Maddy, i agree very plot driven. I feel their were signs in 2014, they were gonna become an item. But example is put in random storylines, then climax. Then Matt is back to buisness per usual, like nothing happened. That is the same with all storylines and characters. Needs to be more focus on the characters driving the plots I agree, instead of the other way around. It just feels like they are all placeholders, and don't hold any real value.

I am only a very casual viewer now, I dip in and out but I doubt I will be a regular viewer again for a long time if ever. As I said it is a bit more bearable but not enough for me to tun in full time again. I maybe watch what, 5 minutes a week out of 2 and a half hours worth of episodes a week.

The show just needs everything described here and a bit more to make it worth watching again for me.

God, I love that clip of the Early Years. Cheers, Blaxland '89! :P

1988? That is going back a bit lol. I don't think that's realistic, or even good practice, to hope its like it was 20 years ago. I Don't think that is the expectation here. I Think the expectation is sticking to its roots, yet feeling like its a show in 2016. IT has the latter correct, the former no.

ETA: Sorry about the UK spoiler, diddn't realize.
