Oh please god no! it's posts like this that make me stay off H&A social media

People have different opinions, some like it like it was before the Braxtons some like it better when they where there :) I think it's boring when there's no action in the show. Maybe that was ok 10-15 years ago but I don't feel that works anymore but honestly any of the previous years would be better than this year

I think the fuzzy family drama days of the show are well and truly over. The format of the show seems to be the way going forward. Neighbours is not perfect but is much more watchable.

Sadly, you are probably right. I watched that early years trailer and it reminded me how good the show used to be. Maybe a bit old-fashioned and idyllic, but it will still full of drama and controversy running alongside family stories, where usually wayward teens were given a better life, where bad behaviour was usually punished and people generally did the right thing for the right reasons. Now it's about the opposite of most of those things.

Neighbours has strayed from its core family values over the years, but always seems to come back to its roots. The same can't be said for H&A. Some people will say that the world is a different place and to get over it, but I think the underlying values that H&A started with are still about in the world today, even if they aren't reflected in the series. I am sure they could come up with a contemporary take on foster families and small town life if they really wanted to. Life isn't that different.

There is no big reason why H&A has had to ditch its family format and become a crime show, to make people think that reflects the world today. Lots of communities have core family values still. Like Neighbours does, and I think Emmerdale and EE.

Neighbours launched Home And Away in many ways. Although it is a complete myth that H&A was created from scratch because Channel 7 regretted letting go of Neighbours once 10 turned it into a success in 1986. I did some digging and proved H&A was in development in 1985. Bevan Lee said this as did Bateman. In 1986 it was an already existing project chosen as the replacement for Neighbours and Sons & Daughters. It needed beefing up a bit to become a long running rival to Neighbours so more cast was added. H&A appears in a Channel 7 set of proof sheets of publicity and production images of upcoming and current Channel 7 shows in Sep 1985. See this link http://colsearch.nfsa.gov.au/nfsa/search/display/display.w3p;adv=;group=;groupequals=;holdingType=;page=0;parentid=;query="Home And Away" Decade%3A"1980-1989";querytype=;rec=2;resCount=10

Bateman said he had wanted to create a show that reflected modern Aussie life rather than how it used to be. And that is what he did with H&A, lots of community spirit and wayward teens who needed guidance due to troubled backgrounds. All that went out of the window in recent years.

I am not sure Home and Away can be classed as a crime show. The Braxtons brought that theme into the show/ But I Am watching atm. And the past year it feels like 2001 imo. 2014 was horrible imo, it was the peak of the crime driven stories. I mean the Eye for an Eye spinoff, was basically what Home and Away was from 2012-2014. But since mid 2015. I fee the Community Spirit had returned. And it was more focused on Modern Aussie Lifestyle n 2016. Which is what I am interested in. That is why I liked Matt and Maddy, they reminded me of teen couples back in 2001. Just light hearted at times, but fluffy. I Think with shows like Breaking Bad e.t.c. Crime is very trendy. But it felt like I Was watching Blue Heelers for a while haha. I Guess your seeing more Wayward Teens since Jet, Spencer, and Maddy.

Then you've got Skye, and that Jackson kid. So that fostering aspect has returned. I have seen a real effort to maintain its roots. You saw Neighbors do that. They tried to focus on the Young teens, did not work. Home and Away is at best with Wayward Teens, and Adults supporting in a Modern Setting in Aussie Lifestyle. That is why I Watch the show, I like Aussie Lifestyle.

It's been a year (Give or Take) since Bennett took over with his s*** shovel; Has there been any REAL improvement?

How has he taken over? Lucy is still there. Doesn't she get the final say? I mean i doubt anyone tells her no.

The Crime driven shows weren't bad. Hell at times I Found The Braxtons quite charming. IT is just not what HOme and Away is, nor its format. Some nostalgics watch since 88 or even 2000. OF course they are going to respond to it. Authenticity is a big thing. I think the show has transitioned some what. But of course some feel Lucy is her name? Needs to move on. NOne of us work on Home and Away lol, so who knowss.

The premise of the River Boys was a good idea. But whe it seemed to get narrowed down to just the Braxton brothers and all others were forgotten about it lost something. And the family drama became very repetitive.

If the other characters that were in the bay weren't so neglected it would of worked better too

I just don't think they were full time cast material. There a discussion about the Mackin family and could they have been full time. I think very much that the Braxton should have just been guests in the same way as the Macklins For a really good few stories to shake up the bay and that was it. Without the exclusion of the current cast. Perhaps with just one staying on.

We could still have mentions of the. At the end of it all they are guys for mangrove river. Why they integrated themselves so much in summerbay I don't know. Mangrove river seems fine.
