Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

It's bizarre watching Neighbours at the minute. Sophie, Scott, Spencer, Martha. More Home and Away characters I recognise than in Home and Away itself.

I'm not convinced by the new police woman much. She looks like a stripper in a police woman's costume rather than a really police woman.

What new police woman?

Just posting about Alf in another discussion made me wonder what is it that keeps people watching? Is it a certain character or characters, is it the scenery, the storylines or just out of habit? Do people love the show as it is, or are mainly watching in the hope it gets better.

To answer my own questions, I've watched basically every episode since it began, so there is a force of habit there. It was the sunny, upbeat, fairly relaxed lifestyles in a beautiful setting that probably attracted me to the show, and of course the family-based storylines used to be good, along with some great drama which stopped short of being OTT and a mix of humour.

Nowadays I mainly watch to follow the long-term characters, like Alf, Marilyn, Irene, Leah. If those four characters were all to leave, I might well consider it time to give up watching, unless TPTB brought in some really top quality characters to replace them (and I'm not sure that is likely to happen).

Home And Away has been stretched well beyond its use-by date. Can you imagine trying to catch up on 30 year's worth of episodes? Why can't they axe Home And Away and replace it with a new series under a different name. The Early Years episodes have far more value in them and should be given a repeat run world-wide.

That would be stupid, I don't want a new show with new characters. I can watch this show decades and never get tired

I have to say I agree with you for the most part. I hate to see show's that I once really enjoyed be mucked around with and ruined to such a degree that I stop caring about the characters. Sometimes I would much rather see them axe it now and end the torture already.

I stopped watching "for good" in 2014, a time at which the producers really forgot they were supposed to be creating an entertainment show. I started again after Dan Bennett returned, but 2016 has been one of the poorest seasons I've ever sat through. Very, very disappointing.

Having said all that, Neighbours is a good example of how much one individual (or set of individuals) can so firmly hold a show back from its potential, and how quickly it can recover once they depart. I am sure that a similar change in leadership would do wonders for H&A.

Maybe it shows that Dan Bennett was big on promise, short on delivery as script editor. A temporary improvement last year but the show soon returned to default. The show needs a new producer. But could it be better the devil you know?

H&A is practically a crime/thriller show now and that is everything I hate about the current episodes.

Just cause you waved the white flag a long time ago, doesn't mean everyone else has (though there have been periods in the last 5yrs where I've been like "F this!" but I've hung on in there.

Right now I'm seeing a small improvement with the removal of one dominant element and the easing in of a new one.

Yeah waving the white flag is fine for some. But who wants to watch a show in 2016 from 1995? I am sure to some people they still hold value. But say what you want about current H and A. But I would rather watch a show in 2016 moving forward. Then watch a show from twenty years ago. In any case I am sure the younger viewership which is who they target, or casuals. Don't want it to be replaced by 1995 Re Runs lol (Who is that old person Mummy? Wheres Brax). Sorry but that would be silly, what would be the point in that? From a commercial stand point, it would be a disaster to begin with. As it is their is a chanel for the re runs, so stick to that huh. IF your a Nostalgic, of course your going to feel that way. But it is like with any show, some times after watching an episode over and over. IT loses its impact. At least 2016 H and H has new characters, and its fresh in some ways. Despite maybe the Quality being diminished at times. The show is  pretty much a crime show. I mean I Thought last year getting back on track. It had a 2001 feel to it. IT felt sleepy again, it felt like the old community spirit was returning. Partic when Ed Sherran performed. Had the best storyline the show had done in years, with Charlotte. That balance was back.

Spoiler

Then the Morgans arrived. And Seeing Phoebe forced to her knees by some guy. Then their is car chases... IS this 2012 all over again? Psycho Teenagers unplanned pregnancys, criminals, random hook ups with no meaning at all. I mean how many Girflreinds has Ash had or Nate for that matter? Don't tell me Evie and Mason are gonna last. Seeing they barley know each other, he is prob gonna leave being in Witness Protection. And they already did the deed, it well fizzle out. Part of the reason I really loved Matt and Maddy, they reminded me of 2001 Teen Couples. I remember the scene in the episode they stopped fighting, when they were by the beach. Just really breezy, quirky, fun, light e.t.c. Shows almost like some hybrid of Blue Heelers and Underbelly. I Do like Brody and Tori, but Mason and Justin Remind me of Heath and Brax 2.0. Been their, done that. One of those movies, you would only watch once, but would never like to see again.

I mean even with the Teen Couples. Where did the story go? Where did the back stories and background go? Aden and Belle were so appealing, because they supported each other. You saw Aden''s backstory. And Todd had such charisma. They were just very appealing. Hunter and Olivia seem to be in the light. But I just don't beleive in them like I did Aden and Belle. The last great teen couples were prob April and Dex and Romeo and Indi. Couples just don't stick anymore in this show. IT is just who well she or he hook up with next e.t.c.
