I actually think the show was boring during 2012-2015 which is why I stopped watching for the first time ever .

Heh its funny different opinions. In terms of action, H and A was at its pinnacle around then. I guess that was down to the Braxtons. But that is just me.

Despite its faults over the years, I always found right from the pilot episode that H&A was the most modern Aussie soap of its time. And it has kept that up. Neighbours on the other hand is more like Midsomer Murders, just without the murders. The only correlation between MM and H&A is the killings (like EastEnders or Emmerdale) but Neighbours portrays an outdated Australia like MM portrays an outdated England. (Never been a great MM fan anyway). H&A is more like EastEnders, always kept up with the times. In the 1980s, H&A, EE and Brookside seemed to be 3 soaps that reflected the modern world more than others. 1988 H&A could have been set in 1998. While H&A has been ruined a lot in recent years storyline wise, it still has the modern feel to it that it always had.

So (H&A + Neighbours) = Midsomer Murders. Mystery solved :P . From day one H&A has always had the advantage of a bigger budget and higher quality production values, along with a more beautiful and adaptable setting. Unfortunately, if anything, Neighbours has gone backwards in terms of production values over the past 10 years. However high production values aren't everything, and I can't help but think that H&A's polished look covers up a number of shortcomings. If they had less budget to play with, we might see more meaningful character-based storylines instead of action sequences and stunts.

Someone at work told me today they watch Home and Away, and I said I used to like it better. They said 'I love it these days, it's not boring like other soaps, there's always so much going on'

I hate to bring this back to gay characters again, but I don't feel this is true as if H&A was so modern I feel it would feature LGBT characters.

However, I agree EE reflects modern times.

People say its more Modern then Neighbours. Because of it's set designs, and beautiful setting. It feels like your watching a show in 2016. Neighbours is stuck in the nineties with its set designs. Whether H and A has a LGBT character or not, I don't think is a true indicitive of a show being Modern or not. Sure it can be a deciding factor, having diversity in a show. But IMO I don't think its imperative.I mean their is alot of ppl who enjoy H and A more then they did years ago, because they love the action. Nostalgics are the opposite of course. I thought 2011 Home and Away was a Modern Golden Age, but that is just me.

Those are 2 different things though. Sure, Home and Away is modern in the sense that its sets are realistic and I'd go as far as to say that its production values are one of the best on TV. Visually, it's modern, but its attitudes aren't modern. I'm not even that bothered whether H&A features LGBT characters as other shows do, but I think it's outdated not to at least include them occasionally.

In some respects I think 2011-2013 was a golden age due to the Walker family (but I exclude the Braxtons in this).

I guess with Home and Away I See a show making subtle changes to its history. But I feel like I am watching a show in 2016. With Neighbors, they have seemed to assasinate its history. And I Feel like the Set Designs are stuck in the 90's. I enjoy Neighbors, but it is true. I have always prefered Home and Away as it is. I just think H and A needs a balance, a balance they have yet to find.

The one thing it is not atm is Home and Away hahaha. I think the last time it felt like Home and Away was 2009. But that is just me. Watching Neighbors I Think the difference is while it feels like NeihBORES some times hahaha. It sticks to its roots. Does not depart to much. Although it does abuse its history. Home and Away has departed too much the past six years. It is a shell of its former self. However I would stil watch Home and Away, if forced. At least Home and Away feels like a show in 2016. With the modern sets. Neighbors set designs, still feel like the 90's to me. To me I think Home and Away has progressed so much in the present, it has forgot its past. While Neighbors, is too much in its past.

I don't think it is as unwatchable as ppl make it out to be. Neighbors is darker. Story wise it is better. But I dunno I Still prefer Home and Away. Home and Away has seemed to move forward in terms of set designs, it feels like I am watching a show in 2016. Neighbors is still stuck in the nineties. I well say Neighbors is in the past too much, and Home and Away does not respect its past enough. Just my two cents.

Malfunction! Malfunction! Comment repeat! Comment repeat!

Is Lucy Addario still the producer of Home and Away? If she is, then surely it's time for a new producer to take the helm?

Yes Lucy is still the Series Producer as far as I am aware, and has been since 2012. So she has been in charge about as long as Cameron Welsh. Regardless of my opinions regarding her stewardship over the past 5 years, to stay fresh the show needs new blood every few years and it's probably about time.

I think she joined in May 2012, so yes, 5 years virtually. The Morgans/Lee's are the new Braxtons which I feared would be the case. Justin is the new Brax, although he looks like Andy. I sincerely hope that Lucy is thinking of leaving the show after 5 years and moving on to new projects. A new broom will sweep clean. The show feels like 20% Home And Away and 80% Underbelly Sydney.

Agreed. It is outdated in its values. The lack of diversity, the treatment of women as nothing more than love interests for the male
