Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

I'd tend to agree here. I find that H&A, whilst at times (in the past, not now in my opinion) overly violent, has never really been boring. Whereas I go through periods of watching Neighbours drag on for half an hour with no real development. No matter whether you like the show's current format or not, H&A is never boring.

I re-watched many 1988 H&A episodes and it makes Neighbours as dull as dishwater by comparison. It was much more exotic and watchable. Today ATM I feel Neighbours is more watchable. I think as H&A is 30 years old, it is going to have good and bad periods.

Well that is true, H&A can never really be accused of being dull or boring. In some ways it should be commended for being able to keep viewers hooked. That isn't to say that it is never predictable or repetative (how many variations on a siege can you have?). But they do know how to create tension and high drama, despite it being a weekly occurrence.

Neighbours is generally a lot less dramatic, and they used to plug the gap in drama with decent comedy and humour, which can be a bit hit or miss these days. But overall it is less exhausting to watch.

I Feel its Quantity over Quality. While Neighbors I Think feels more coherent in story telling. It feels they are more direct in characterization and story line. Their is more continuity because of that. I still prefer H and A's dramatic edge. More compelling to me. The culture, the lifestyle. Even the worst of H and A, I find so compelling haha. I think Neighbors has the right amount of doses atm. And got some pretty good characters atm. It is far more consistent then H and A atm. But then again you got ppl in their suits, hotels, inside inside inside. Then H and A, it is night time, and their is a bonfire. Got people in Sandles, bikinis, the beach. Walking down to the Diner, for a burger, walk down 5 metres see the same person, Hey I saw you eating a Burger just down their rock on! :D.

H and A feels alot more laid back then Neighbors, always has. I guess I prefer that. I Think the Quality in the comedic moments in H and A is supeior to Neighbors. IT feels less rehearsed, partic when Matt and Roo get in a room. I also feel currently H and A is better then Neighbors, is Development. I could watch Neighbors 3 episodes in a row nothing really changing. Every episode something tends to happen in H and A, that changes things in the next episode. It feels more Serialized in format.

Probably no substance to this at all, but I'll just post it here:

" Australian network Channel Seven has been forced to deny that long-running soap Home and Away is being dumped from the main channel and being moved to a digital only channel"

(Contains minor spoilers for the UK - i.e. the sort of stuff you would guess anyway!)

I actually think the show was boring during 2012-2015 which is why I stopped watching for the first time ever .

Heh its funny different opinions. In terms of action, H and A was at its pinnacle around then. I guess that was down to the Braxtons. But that is just me.

Despite its faults over the years, I always found right from the pilot episode that H&A was the most modern Aussie soap of its time. And it has kept that up. Neighbours on the other hand is more like Midsomer Murders, just without the murders. The only correlation between MM and H&A is the killings (like EastEnders or Emmerdale) but Neighbours portrays an outdated Australia like MM portrays an outdated England. (Never been a great MM fan anyway). H&A is more like EastEnders, always kept up with the times. In the 1980s, H&A, EE and Brookside seemed to be 3 soaps that reflected the modern world more than others. 1988 H&A could have been set in 1998. While H&A has been ruined a lot in recent years storyline wise, it still has the modern feel to it that it always had.

So (H&A + Neighbours) = Midsomer Murders. Mystery solved :P . From day one H&A has always had the advantage of a bigger budget and higher quality production values, along with a more beautiful and adaptable setting. Unfortunately, if anything, Neighbours has gone backwards in terms of production values over the past 10 years. However high production values aren't everything, and I can't help but think that H&A's polished look covers up a number of shortcomings. If they had less budget to play with, we might see more meaningful character-based storylines instead of action sequences and stunts.

Someone at work told me today they watch Home and Away, and I said I used to like it better. They said 'I love it these days, it's not boring like other soaps, there's always so much going on'

I hate to bring this back to gay characters again, but I don't feel this is true as if H&A was so modern I feel it would feature LGBT characters.

However, I agree EE reflects modern times.
