Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

I don't understand why some people seem to think the show needs to lose the family aspect to stay relevant.Since when has that lost importance in the world?

I also am finding some of these replies rather patronising though.Just because some people might have a better idea of what goes on behind the scenes then others it doesn't make their opinion of the show more important.

A knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes is relevant when discussing what amounts to personal judgements about the role of a particular member of the production crew particularly when that person is being blamed for the perceived "ruining" of the show.

I agree that patronizing comments from any side of the argument should not be made.

So you're against seeing past characters, like Irene's kids for example? You really think seeing past characters = stuck in a time warp. Don't you think it's realistic? I gather you've not watched the show for very long. How would you feel if Billie left and she was never mentioned again?

I think the title of the thread is misleading in a way. The OP has stated why they dislike the direction the show has taken and that is irrelevant to whether the current producer is competent or not. Wiki states that " A traditional producer is one who manages a show's budget and maintains a schedule" and in the sense of this definition, the producer is irrelevant to the OPs concerns.

There have been overused and underused characters from the beginning and golden couples usually got all the good ones and their friends played second fiddle.

I realise that there are characters who make choices that don't fit in with my morals, but that doesn't make they bad characters or characters I necessarily dislike.

I also realise that sometimes practicalities come into play. There is was a lot of "Ricky is a bad mother" posts because Cheryl seemed to have Casey a lot - but that is more child labour laws and writers wanting to use the character in other ways than just being a mum.

There have been plots that I have disappointed with the outcome, but I acknowledge that good drama is not usually a happy ending.

I think less action is more. I like the Morgan banter and family interaction. I only like the syndicate stuff in the context of it showing the bonds between the siblings.

I also value friendship dynamics over relationship ones - especially the overdone hook-up/break-up. This is why viewers are less invested in attempts at establishing a golden couple. Shane and Angel wouldn't have worked so well if Shane had dumped Sarah to get with Angel who got with Tug on the rebound after Damien had broken her heart...

So you have something to compare it too. But The crime and explosion element part to h a Away is great. Ppl want to see that in prime time drama now. The Morgans were a big part of why the show was so good latter half. It could Be Neighbors. And abandon its roots completely. Or it could have set designs that look like the show is stuck in the 90s. I prefer the way they are doing it. It looks like a show in 2016.

We may hear this "H&A cannot live in the past" and "H&A has moved on" posts but surely society has not changed to the way H&A is portraying it as. Endless murders, drug wars, gun wars, psycho teens, baddie after baddie. It is 80% violence and cruelty and 20% everyday stuff. In Neighbours it is the other way around. And how has Neighbours abandoned its roots????

I don't know whether 'endless murders, drug wars, gun wars, psycho teens, baddie after baddie' is exactly an accurate representation. There has been no murder this year, and 4 since 2011, the drug war has ended, there has never been a 'gun war', and psycho teens and baddie after baddie have been staples in the show (and any other soap) since the dawn of time...

Yes, now we're onto witness protection. Which is a horrendous storyline. And it's another crime story. Seriously, Summer Bay would be the last place the Morgans would seek refuge. If this was a real town it would be famous the world over for how dangerous it is.

4 murders since 2011 says it all. That's almost 1 a year! Absolutely ludicrous. and yet people can't see what the issue is.

The fact this thread has lasted 3 years and 194 pages says it all.

Actually, I think it's a great storyline, but that's my opinion. I think it's actually very realistic that they'd settle in a small country town - no one would think to look there. Shall I bring up the WP storyline on McLeod's Daughters? Literally, out in whoop whoop.

The fact that Neighbours has had (arguably) the same amount in the same span of time says a lot as well, so I don't think it's just Home and Away you can lump that ludicrousy on... And before it's questioned, yes I'm including the hotel explosion as murder because Julie Quill should've known that tampering with the boiler would at least cause one person to die... At least with the Caravan Park explosion, it was a genuine accident...

i think it's lasted 3 years and 194 pages because people have too much time on their hands to complain, but hey, all opinions are welcome. ^_^

Which characters in Neighbours are you referring to, who have been murdered? Regan and Josh?

The difference is that Neighbours has a variety of storylines. It doesn't pretend to be a crime drama.

ETA: I don't watch McLeods Daughters.

Kate, Josh, Doug - you could chuck Regan in there (the intent to harm was evident).

Every show has a variety of storylines. It's how it's perceived by the viewer. I don't see it as a crime show. Sure it has a crime element, but so does every show. Although I do thing we are starting to drift away from the purpose of the topic now.
