Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

It was so bad between 2013 and 2015 that I didn't watch it. It's still bad but there are glimmers of hope occasionally, what with things like Duncan's return.

Home and Away was a family show as recently as the early 2000s IMO.

I'll admit, I didn't watch 2012-2014, but I didn't enjoy the show then. So I didn't watch it.

As for being a family show, I think it comes down to perception. I've always watched the show with my family. We watch it at dinner time, as many families I know do. Over here, it's a really respected show to Australian youth. But I haven't the foggiest how it's received in the UK.

Hardly anyone watches H&A in the UK anymore. It's certainly not talked about. Not many people watch Neighbours either these days but it is more of a talking point in the UK than H&A is these days.

I'm surprised that H&A is respected among the youth in Australia, I was under the impression that soaps were seen as cheesy by Australian youth.

Ah yeah, well, it's one of two ways, you watch them or you think they're cheesy - but I think most youths go through bouts of watching one or the other... :P The hotties (mainly Ash, Hunter, Brody and Mason) have an effect...

In early 1994 when Bobby was killed off, I was round my mums friends house in Great Yarmouth and I was playing video games with her daughters and she said "Did you watch H&A, Bobby has died in a boating accident". The show was so massive back then it was unreal. 14 million an episode. 23 years later we can say those days are long, long gone. In the UK H&A is remembered by the longer term viewers for its legacy now and how massive it once was rather than the current episodes.

As much as Five respects Home and Away & Neighbours more than their original UK broadcasters, I feel that both shows essentially were shot in the foot by moving. Had H&A never moved from ITV I think it would still be one of the most popular shows in the UK. They are popular for their channel, but moving to channel 5 has made them niche rather than mainstream.

Sorry, off topic.

Considering there is no knowledge of what she actually does, I think it's a little bit ignorant to be having an opinion - and I'll be blunt, from what I've read, none of you actually know what her job entails.

What a ridiculous thing to say! Most people have an opinion on Politics, but by your logic they shouldn't unless they know how to govern a country.

Put simply, as Series Producer of the show Lucy has an active role in producing must-see, enjoyable drama. Plainly they are missing the mark for several viewers, no matter how much a minority want to downplay that fact.

H&A has to show drama and intrigue to survive but they have really gone too far in the past few years. In 1988 the show had plenty of scandal and mayhem but there was a balance. Today there is 3 times as much. It makes the mayhem in Hollyoaks look timid. I doubt Lucy has been told to turn it into a crime show as the show was rating well before that so why the sudden change in direction? Most of the content of the show is down to one person, the producer. No coincidence that when a new producer comes into a soap it feels different. EastEnders went from sensational to realistic again since a new producer came in.

This discussion is becoming unnecessarily personal.  This must cease. The title of this topic is "Are the Current Producers Ruining Home and Away".  There is obviously a divergence of views about this. Members need to put their views without personal references particularly "put downs" or claims of superior understanding or knowledge which belittle others.

Most people do have an opinion on politics, but I hold the same belief - don't have an opinion, if you don't know all the facts. I find it incredibly annoying.
