Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

I'm not that 'old' myself, but I took time to educate myself on the history of the show and the characters. In time, I got to know the characters and their back stories in great depth and I'm so glad I did that as it gives you a much better outlook when you're aware of so much history!

These 'new' viewers could easily take some time to learn about the history of Home and Away and maybe then they'd realise that there's so much more to the show than what is being produced today.

Just my opinion.

Actually I'm with you right up to where you conclude that what is being produced today is some how less than what has past.

I certainly agree that new viewers would benefit greatly from an understanding and familiarity with the past history of the show. This would include an understanding and knowledge of past iconic characters and storylines..

However I would see that knowledge as making for a greater appreciation of how the show has developed and an appreciation of what it has become.

What do you classify as a new viewer? i have watched the show since the late 2001 year in 2003. Seeing as the show was over ten years old by then does that make me a new viewer?

Yes. Any one after 2000 s a new viewer. And I think you mean Duncan and not Dylan.

I watched regularly from 2007-2011 but I saw most of 2012 too.

I suppose I could be described as a 'new' viewer but I've seen many episodes of past seasons so I know a lot about Home and Away.

I think it's a little funny sometimes how fans seemingly know more than the actual people who are in charge of writing and producing for the show!

That´s weird and un realistic, i have watched the show for over 10 years and im a new viewer? I have watched the show half my life, i find my self to be an old experienced viewer because i know every bit of thing that has happened for atleast half of the shows life time and has done research to. I wasn´t even 13 yet when i started watching and now im soon 23. Home and away has been a part of me for a long time and i do not classify myself as a new viewer. Only older viewers would say that, new viewers are the ones that started watching after Sally left. Yes i ment Duncan, i though wrong. Dylan is the name of Rhy´s bastard son he got with Angie. What ever happened to that character anyway? Last time we saw him was when they found out Angie had a twin sister

Dylan was also the name of Angel's son in it way before you started watching it. The show is 25 years old so compared to people who have watched watched it from then beginning the yes, 10 years is pretty new. And to think you have watched Irene for over 10 years and you still thought until very recently that she had only one son!!! When her whole purpose to be in the show was because of the other two! Says a lot about the last 10 years.

So I don't think we can put all the blame on the current producers. They are taking it from where they left off and continued to move it further away with its roots With even less continuity. It's gone down hill since about 2001 very slowly. Starting from the way they dealt with Ailsa's death. Not that there hasn't been some fantastic moments since then. Or that before is wasn't dodgy every now and then.

I wouldn't describe anyone who's been watching from before 2010 as a new viewer, maybe more recent than that.I guess they could be termed "latecomers" but hey, there's a lot of people who weren't even born in 1988 and a lot of people who watch a show without researching every detail of its history. If someone isn't aware of a key fact about a character after watching for 10 years, that's not necessarily their fault.(There's surely been references to Irene being a mother since 2000 though? At least as recently as 2009?)

I knew she has other childrens, i also knew she had a husband which was Will´s father and that she was an alcoholicer to and hit her childs, and that she was a real bicth when she first appeared. But what i didn´t know before recently was that she was played by a different actress during her first stint, the show isn´t only about Irene, i knew Alf had children besides Duncan so don´t come here and call me a new viewer, incredible much has happened the last 12 years i have watched. I think the show from the 2000 looks much better then back in the 90s and 80s

No. Irene was never married to Will's father Ken. They didn't get that far. Irene has only been married to her children's father Murdock.

So in which case can we compromise and call you a late comer.

And sorry for going off topic. I did try and pull it back in my last post.

I have watched the show since Sally came to live with Tom and Pippa but I dont count myself as superior to the newer viewers just because I have watched all these years. Anyone can read up about the history of the show.

And yes I dont claim to know more about the show than the people who make the show and work on it. I may not be happy with their decisions but I dont claim to know more. Ray Meagher praised the show, and while I may think he is doing so to value his contract and his pay packet, I do think he must be happy to work on the show.

But Lucy Addario needs to go now IMHO. Or take drastic measures to lower the current tone of the show.
