Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

I think it is essential for a TV show to keep in with its roots. The UK soaps Corrie and EastEnders have always kept true to their roots by bringing back past characters and there are always refs to past storylines. H&A would do well to go back to the way those 2 soaps are. As said Lucy and Louise seem to have little or no interest in the shows history. I remeber it was suggested that they are only into doing a 5 day a week show and dont worry about how it is written or anything. At least I can still watch neighbours and get a sense of community spirit. When H&A does have a non violent and/or crime/cruelty episode though it can really excel at it. The wedding episode aired in the UK last week was a good example.

In my mind I imagine the show to be much more exicting than it is.

Like I expected more to happen with the bomb blast. I expected the people that were caught up in it to be more affected or hurt. Then with the hostage thing with Sean that was quite rushed I think.

The Harvey story I was thinking that was going to be really good but it hasn't really been that great. We still don't know what has happened to him

I also don't like the way the show just forgets things. I mean what has happened with Spencer's bipolar will that ever be mentioned again now?

:offtopic: Oh yeah by the way where's the member JackLost gone as he seems to have vanished now I was just wondering

Going back a few posts before about Irene's gransdon Paul. It just occurred to me she has two grandsons. Because Fin become pregnant too didn't she. While Irene was carrying her other child. So it would be great to bring two brothers of 17 in it now, with a big link to Irene. I can see them both living with her. Would of been better then the Bassets or whatever they're called.

Yeah, just why are they so reluctant to introduce Irene's family? I remember I tweeted Lynne back in 2012(!!!!!) about how it'd be 20 years of Irene the following year and that it'd be nice to have some sort of celebratory storyline to commemorate the landmark. Just remember, we got NOTHING!

Yeah it's disappointing the producers didn't celebrate Irene's 20th year in the show. But Alf didn't get a 20th or 25th celebration. However, he did get a 60th Birthday episode. Instead of Maddie, Spencer and Chris, they could have introduced Irene's grandchildren. Well I hope they will do that in the future!

Agreed. It seems we were lucky to get a reference to the 25th anniversary of the show, so an acknowledgement of 20 years of Lynne as Irene was asking too much.

Some of these ideas are really good, particularly Blaxland89's idea to bring in Fin's sons. It would be far more interesting than anything to do with Chris/Spencer, and giving Irene real family ties and involvement in their storylines would be great. It would also result in a lot less whining from myself and others about the lack of interest the writing team clearly have in Irene as a character.

I mentioned this in the Week 6 Spoilers thread in the Spoiler section a little while ago....

It seems as though there is a shortage of older characters (35 plus) and, if my memory is correct, the last older actor cast to play a regular older character was Marcus Graham back in 2011, nearly 3 years ago. In the last 2 years, under Lucy Addario's reign, we have seen various young characters introduced who are played by attractive and sometimes famous actors.

From my perspective, there is a pattern that has formed. All new and upcoming characters are young, tanned and exactly the kind of characters these producers want to appeal to their ideal audience. I am young, so in the eyes of the 7 executives, I should like young and attractive characters. That's not true, as I like a good balance of characters of a range of ages, older ones in particular.

I just wish people at the top would cater for everyone and have some balance. It's no good pandering to a minority. Look at that old Liverpool soap Brookside. It was destined for oblivion when it had sensationalist story lines and catalogue model characters. I hope the producers address the absence of some older characters and try and have a balanced drama that tells the stories of young and old people alike.
