Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

1997-mid 2000 and 2010 present are the worst period of the show out of the 27 years series canon of H&A.

1996 was the last really good year of the 1990s but I think H&A 2000-2007/2008 was also very good. 2003 was as good as 1993 IMHO. The Sutherlands rejuvenated the ailing soap after a few years in the wilderness or going round in circles. 1988-1996, 2000-2004 are the best period for H&A.

It is not so much the Braxtons as people that are the problem it is their overuse and the way they are written. While they are criminals they are not psychopaths, they always look after their own no matter what the cost. Dan Bennett coming back I can only see some improvements ahead. H&A has the most diverse and rich history of any soap I think, even Corrie and EE.

Still haven't heard when we're likely to start seeing the first episodes with Dan Bennett as Series Script Executive.

When Ada Nicodemou posted a picture of a script a couple of months ago on Instagram with Dan listed in the role it was for episode 6233.

6165 is the most recent Aus-transmission episode as far as I am aware, so there is a maximum of 70 episodes (14 weeks or 3.5 months) before we might see Dan's influence.

I'm also interested to see from Louise Bowes's Twitter that she is now Network Script Executive at 7.

Louise has Bevan Lee's job now then. I dont know what that role means but it cannot have much influence of the writing of H&A as Bevan has had the role for the past few years and the writing has been pretty bad. Bevan would not allow that, he was a writer for many years. But if Bevan said Dan Bennett knows H&A inside out then yes, I can see a better show in the future, then we can gear up for the 30th anniversary.

1997 wasn't bad all the way through, it's just toward the end of the year things started to slip a bit and it was clearly being outshone by Neighbours (character and storywise), which had had a kick up the arse the year before and was continuing into its second golden age.

As said before the Sutherlands were a breath of Fresh air when they arrived but by about late 2003, I was pretty sick of them as were some people I knew. Final straw was the Twin Switched at Birth crap that undermined viewers' intelligence.

Louise Addario needs to collect her p45 and hit the bricks.

Remember Lucy Addario is still Series Producer.

A Script Producer can only work under the vision of whoever is executive of the programme.

Yes Lucy really needs to go too. I think the biggest problem over the past four years has been script production, and that has been down to Ms Bowes. So I'm hopeful we'll see a significant shift in quality with Louise gone.

Haha! 'Louise' Addario

I 100% agree with Fiona Spence about what she said about H&A in 1989 outshining Neighbours. From 1988 to 1997 it clearly did outshine Neighbours and again from 2000 to about 2006. Neighbours often used to just be an imitation of H&A. As I have stated when H&A began it really did have much more location scenes, better characters and was more fun than Neighbours.

Usually H&A has always outshone Neighbours apart from 1997-2000 and 2012ish to date. Lets hope H&A can reclaim its title soon.

These great periods, be it on h&a or neighbours were driven by fantastic writing of the characters and giving storylines realistic timeframes to be played out. The likes of billy and Anne or dani vs kirsty and Kane wouldn't have worked if the plot was over and done with in a weeks time. I'd have to say neighbours is currently creating history with its fantasic production, and I think it's down to a combination of scriptwriting, directing, and of course the actors (Olympia valance I'm looking at you). If you compare the similar Paige finding her parents on neigbours, to Casey finding out he is a Barrett, the amount of time on the actually plot as well as the impact it had on people was embarrassing on h&a's part.

I think the only was Haa can survive now is if we have a massive revamp.

They just dont understand what Home And Away is all about. Dan Bennett seems to do so more so I am glad he is back. I am hoping Lucy will step down soon, she has been the producer for 3 years now and usually they move on after 3 or 4 years.

John Holmes has been exec producer for what seems like a zillion years on H&A.
