Are the current producers ruining Home and Away?

Neighbours is better than H&A at the moment, for the first time in history Neighbours seems to be better than Home And Away. I hope H&A reclaims its title soon, I feel Neighbours has often copied H&A over the years, its school settings, sets, sunnier locations. Outside Coronation Street the 2 soaps with the richest histories are Neighbours and H&A. I still remain optimistic about H&A and the show will be better in the future.

Friday's evening H&A on Channel 5 scored its lowest audience figure in almost a year (409k), but that time it was up against World Cup football. If this trend continues - and with summer approaching I cannot see ratings increasing much, Channel 5 would surely be concerned.

Given the past week of episodes, I cannot say I'm surprised. I'm not sure why Ch5 chose to break at that point, but very little in the last 5 days has interested me at all. As a life-of-the-series-long fan I'm starting to wonder why I'm still watching. I don't doubt there is some good stuff coming up, and maybe there are some behind the scenes changes which mean that H&A will be improving, but currently it feels like the series has lost its way, with storylines dominated by uninteresting romances.

How was it up against the world cup?  The world cup started yesterday not Friday.  Even if it did it's in Canada so all the matches will be after H & A normally finishes anyway.  Add to that that's it's being shown on BBC Three.

I do think you have a point about the break though.  Perhaps they should have taken it in Summer like they normally do.

Sorry, I can see the confusion now :) Let me clarify, I meant that H&A last scored such low ratings on Channel 5 when it was up against a World Cup football match in Brazil 2014, In any case I doubt there would be a big overlap between the H&A audience and those watching the World Cup last year.

I'm not sure what the logic is behind taking the series off during May. Last year I assumed it was so that they could use the Braxton's trip to London as a hook to get viewers back. I guess it suits anyone in the audience doing exams, otherwise, I would prefer it if the series went off in July or August (when no one is watching anyway).

Anyway, it will be interesting to see where H&A is ratings-wise come the end of the UK summer.

H&A, now that it seems to have set aside much of the OTT crime stories, seems to be focusing mostly on (boring) relationships. As I have seen mentioned on other forums, I think the series needs a good cast clearout (of mainly the younger cast), and re-establish the family-based storylines that worked so well up until a few years ago.

There is nothing in Lucy's interview that gets me excited for the rest of the year. Most of what she says revolves around relationships, and I think we can expect the usual mix of break-ups and love triangles. Sounds so exciting! Hopefully she is holding back on the good stuff :)
