Natalie Nash was re-cast for the better!

Brodie is a puzzling one - apart from being one of the most irritating characters during my time as a regular Home and Away viewer, the Sutherland family was big enough (especially when Max came along!) that there was no need to add an additional child to the brood.

Yeah, especially another whiny girl! That house really needed another guy. Rhys was outnumbered! I'm not quite sure what the reasons were behind bringing in Brodie. Did they just want a foster kid so they could link back to the original concept? Maybe it was felt the Sutherlands were too middle-class and they wanted a street kid to "rough things up" a bit. But Brodie was so wet.

I agree - a boy would have made some attempt to even out the numbers in Summer Bay House and no doubt Rhys would have been protective of whichever of his daughters he would inevitably fancy. In terms of providing a foster kid to link back to the original concept, Irene had the Smith kids and Alf and Ailsa still had Mitch.

I just remembered, Joel and Natalie already had Rachel, as well as Peta so they would have been perfect to take over that aspect of the show. And with her as a teacher and him as the local cop, they both had respectable roles in the community like Sally and Flynn did.

I completely forgot Joel and Natalie had Peta. So yeah they were already taking on the fostering role and could easily have stayed on and fostered 3 new characters instead of writing them out and bringing in a whole new family.

Also, what happened to Justine? Did she stay with Travis and Rebecca, and later Joel and Natalie after Pippa left? I vaugely remember her living with Alf and Ailsa...

I also think with her role at the Drop-in Centre (although would it existed without Shelley?), Gypsy would have made a great "older sister" for the troubled foster kids that passed through Joel and Natalie's doors, much like Bobby with the early 90s brood.

If the Nashes were axed, it was a huge wasted opportunity IMO.

Justine originally lived with the Stewarts when Aaron was living there but she gave into her old smackhead tendencies and had to leave, she got clean and came back and ended up living with the Rosses.

Travis and Rebecca took over responsibility for Justine as well as Tiegan and Sam when Pippa left and yes, Nat and Joel inherited her and Peta after they left.

I have no memory of Justine's leaving storyline/episode.

I don't remember her leaving episode itself but I do remember the school play (in which she played the main part if I remember correctly) being her last storyline/part of her final episodes.
