1994 Episode Discussion

I didn't recognise those girls at all

I wonder how they chose extras to play parts like that, there are always people in the diner background and students at the school

I find the boys school uniform strange, why would they go to the trouble of wearing ties and white shirts, then wear denim jeans with it?  surely they should wear pants with a tie,

whole class detention, I doubt you would see that anywhere these days lol

Characters seem to go missing for quite a few episodes at a time, pippa at the moment, although I notice she must still be busily baking her muffins as they still got dropped off at the diner by Michael.  The diner seems to be the social hub of the town, everyone catches up with everyone there, and everyone is always "going down the diner"

Poor Damian. Despite it only being a show, still so awkward and uncomfortable to watch. Also very low of atug and Shane, especially considering what Damian has done for Shane in the past.

The girl's names were Samantha Tai and Michelle Wista. I looked them up on IMDB and they had no other roles ever on any other show. This was literally the only thing they ever did.

The SBH Uniform works as it is. I actually thought the Jeans were cool to go with the formality of a shirt and tie. Still do!

Should be 1st August 2016 if the schedule remains the same with no breaks. But we've still got another 4 months before we reach the 1995 season so probably best to keep discussion of it to a minimum.

That's 18 years 11 months to the day the ep aired over here!

yeah I agree, I think the uniform does look good too.  I just don't recall any aussie schools having a uniform like that in the same era I went to highschool.  I think the guys would have loved to be able to wear jeans.

I also enjoy the simplicity of life in those days before the technology of mobile phones, social media and computers.  Its strange to think of a life with no mobile phones or internent, these days mobiles seem to be a permanent fixture for any teenager (well for my teenage kids anyhow).  ah the good old days!  I did notice the dodgy wallpaper fellow had an early model mobile phone at Don's house, those old ones were so big and clunky, and Rob had a pager.

Mobiles were around just expensive as hell and by the time you got one it was Obselete and everyone was rocking the new model , Internet was around on a much smaller scale and didn't really balloon until the end of the decade.

I miss those good old days! Back in 1994 I would have been about Sally's age! So I guess you can say I grew up with her. :P And I even had the same style of clothes she wore (not intentional, I used to love those bike shorts).

Anyway, poor Damian. He's like a little brother to his female friends-he can always be relied on for homework help.

Fisher's making everyone's lives miserable and is even taken it out on poor Sam! By taking his sax lessons away. The man can hold a grudge. If Rebecca seems to be over it, why cant he? She and Luke have parted on friendly terms.

Jack-will his schemes ever work? He's a delight to watch.

In 1994 I was at high school and grew up with Damo, Tug, Shane, Sally, Angel and Sam. Back then H&A was like my own childhood and teen years. In 1994 I thought it was the best show on TV, sadly I cannot say that in 2015, seems crimes and drugs is the way to go.

Fisher is being a right, well you know. He could be so miserable and one dimensional at times. You can have a laugh and joke with Alf when he is not grumpy but Don was virtually permanently miserable.

Don had his moments, the rare moments where he would chuckle brought some real humanity to the character. I bet being serious all the time Norman probably cracked up laughing, wrecking takes in the process.

Say what you like about Don but he was a hell lot better than the teachers they have had recently. They have either blown up the hospital, cause a car accident or just cover up murders and sleep with a student. I wonder if Norman watches it and thinks what have they done to the school.

Don seems to be strict but I think back then there was more emphasis on discipline and keeping control of the class, he reminds me of my own principal back in the day, I am old enough to remember students occasionally getting corporal punishment in extreme cases (the cane), imagine the uproar if that happened these days.  He seems to let his personal feelings interfere with his professional life too much though.   I feel like he needs a good dose of antidepressants.  Poor Luke, didn't deserve the serving he copped in front of the class, and good on him for sticking up for himself and giving it back, bet he's glad to be leaving Mr Fisher behind, he would have made his life a misery at work, and really seemed to have it in for him.

I was in my final year of uni in 1994 so felt I could relate to the young people and story lines of the show at the time as well.

At that time computers were becoming more common for typing up assignments, although it was still quite acceptable to hand write final copies.  We had one communal computer room at uni for typing things up, noone had internet, and one computer room at the residential boarding place for students to type things up and print them.  I don't notice any of the houses in summer bay having a computer.  Kids these days will never know how laborious research was, going to libraries, getting books and copies of articles, having to read and highlight the important bits.....now its just one click of a button on google and its all at your fingertips literally.  Can really notice the generation gap now with my own kids, they laugh at the things people wear and what they do on the early years and can't understand why I watch it:rolleyes:

I caught the end of the current Home and Away show the other night, and saw the woman in the car intentionally run down the guy on the road and hit him, there is no way anyone would have that level of "evilness" in the early years, it does seem to be all about crime, murders, affairs, too much drama for me!

anyhow, I digress.  Bit rough of all the adults putting pressure on the young ones to buy presents for the engagement party when they don't have any money.  Never mind, they can all get something at Alf's store, which seems to cater for every occasion!:P
