Donald was very mean today to Luke and the whole year 12 class.

Tug gets lucky alright I guess the hottest character in year 12.

Luke and Rebecca have left.

Like Alf My first thought was Donald drove Luke from the bay until the phone rang and I realised  that Luke has to go home to be with his family.

The adults pushing the kids to buy a present when they are broke.

Don seems to be strict but I think back then there was more emphasis on discipline and keeping control of the class, he reminds me of my own principal back in the day, I am old enough to remember students occasionally getting corporal punishment in extreme cases (the cane), imagine the uproar if that happened these days.  He seems to let his personal feelings interfere with his professional life too much though.   I feel like he needs a good dose of antidepressants.  Poor Luke, didn't deserve the serving he copped in front of the class, and good on him for sticking up for himself and giving it back, bet he's glad to be leaving Mr Fisher behind, he would have made his life a misery at work, and really seemed to have it in for him.

I was in my final year of uni in 1994 so felt I could relate to the young people and story lines of the show at the time as well.

At that time computers were becoming more common for typing up assignments, although it was still quite acceptable to hand write final copies.  We had one communal computer room at uni for typing things up, noone had internet, and one computer room at the residential boarding place for students to type things up and print them.  I don't notice any of the houses in summer bay having a computer.  Kids these days will never know how laborious research was, going to libraries, getting books and copies of articles, having to read and highlight the important bits.....now its just one click of a button on google and its all at your fingertips literally.  Can really notice the generation gap now with my own kids, they laugh at the things people wear and what they do on the early years and can't understand why I watch it:rolleyes:

I caught the end of the current Home and Away show the other night, and saw the woman in the car intentionally run down the guy on the road and hit him, there is no way anyone would have that level of "evilness" in the early years, it does seem to be all about crime, murders, affairs, too much drama for me!

anyhow, I digress.  Bit rough of all the adults putting pressure on the young ones to buy presents for the engagement party when they don't have any money.  Never mind, they can all get something at Alf's store, which seems to cater for every occasion!:P

In 1988-1990 Donald seemed much more chirpier and edgier, he was a bit of a JR type figure in 1988, if he hated someone he would use tactics to get rid of them. And he was good at insulting people such as calling Tom a pen pusher in the army. Dressing as a punk in 1989 was his best ever moment, in 1994, I could not imagine him doing that. He was much more serious and grounded by the time there episodes were originally aired.

Yes, in 1994, the most evil thing I remember was Shane driving into Alf's wall by accident then driving off, and no one else was hurt, and even Shane just had a bruise or 2. In 2015 H&A people drive into someone on purpose. Love triangles end up with someone being killed. I think 2005 was when the H&A of today started to take shape.

Yes, Donald, mean to Luke and Year 12, what has crawled in his pants and died?

I don't recall too much about the first few years of home and away (1988-89), which makes me think I didn't start watching it until a bit down the track, or I only watched bits and pieces.  we had limited tv channels, there was a choice between the abc, and the local commercial station which got a mixture of programs from all the different city channels 7, 9 and 10.  5-6 pm was neighbours, then home and away.

I do have memories of the earlier times, bobby and frank getting married, bobby losing a baby, pippa as the previous actress with Tom, Sophie and the baby adoption drama,.then I think the last time I religiously watched it

Spoiler

was shane and angels wedding, Dylan coming to live with them, Shanes death, Angel having the baby....then that's about it.

if the current early years episodes keep screening, I look forward to watching further then I did previously.  I wonder if 7two will keep them going for that long, I hope so!

That's it for Rebecca until we see her again when she has grown considerably taller, went blonde and become the biggest hypocrite of all time.

Bye bye Luke. Like Lucinda, Viv, and others you'll be pretty much forgotten forever. But you've been a better character than I'd previously remembered and not a bad actor either. I like that Sam's saxaphone lessons played a part in his final episodes as I thought that had been forgotten about by the writers, although it would have been nice to see Luke actually playing the sax one last time.

Jack just goes from scam to scam he doesn't even stop for breath in between. He's like Adam Cameron on ecstasy.

Hurrah! Ailsa's ridiculous haircut is finally gone and the change even gets an on-screen mention. She actually looks like a human being now not a flying saucer.

The "Irene is psychic" story is entertaining and just like the sleep-walking or the fancy dress costume or the beauty makeovers or the (upcoming) Christmas story, is one of many reasons why Irene is the comic relief of 1994. After 1994 the psychic stuff isn't really mentioned again except briefly in 2000 when Ailsa says she and Irene have always disagreed on whether her "ability" is real. I'm waiting for any proof of this in current episodes but so far Ailsa's not been involved.

yes bye Luke, left without much fanfare.

Pity they lost that netball game, would have been nice to win just one to boost their self esteem a little

Irene is entertaining, she just portrays the image of aussie "shiela" with the way she dresses and talks in slang (struth!:D), wonder what the overseas viewers think of her.  Between her and Jack they keep things interesting.

I also like Ailsas new hairdo, so much better then the old one. none of them seem to change hairstyles very often.  Pippas is always the same, Angel is permanently in plaits, and sarah with the straight hair and fringe.  The guys are always the same too, the shane long on top and short underneath basin cut, damo's short back and sides, and tugs swept back look.

I was in the same situation, where the local TV station would show it for a couple of years, then drops it, then shows it again. There are things I remember watching the first time round but a lot that I know I missed for whatever reason. Do you think we may have lived in the same place back in the day?

I grew up in country SA.  I think most country regions  were in the same position with regards to limited tv and choice of shows/channels.  neighbours and home and away became entrenched in the nightly routine, not to be outdone by the classic goodies and dr who hour from 6-7pm (those daleks did used to scare the life outa me as a kid:D).

now we are seemingly spoilt for choice with digital tv and heaps of channels, but are the shows really any better? saturated with reality tv, cooking, renovation and singing competitions.  I love nothing better then a good aussie drama.

I thought with Alf in charge the engagement party would  be dead.

Glad Roxy changed her mind about taking the shift at the store.

The netball team wants Irene as a coach and I agree Roxy wasn't a very good coach.

I wonder why Rob's engagement didn't last more then two weeks.

What woman would want to marry an ugly ape like Rob? Someone as devoid of taste as Carly, who married Ben (an equally ugly ape) at the drop of at hat. Scumbag "hero" wannabe type

Poor Damian. Despite it only being a show, still so awkward and uncomfortable to watch. Also very low of atug and Shane, especially considering what Damian has done for Shane in the past.

The girl's names were Samantha Tai and Michelle Wista. I looked them up on IMDB and they had no other roles ever on any other show. This was literally the only thing they ever did.

Thanks for that.  Was wondering if they'd been in anything else.

I missed Wednesday's and Thursday's - could someone advise what happened please?
