Boy. I knew 1995 was going to be good, but I didn't think it would be this good. 1994 was excellent, and that still pales in comparison to what I've seen so far of 95. I haven't completely caught up yet, but these are my thoughts on what I've seen so far.

Starting with a negative, I didn't really enjoy the Wendy/Nelson storyline. The actor who played Nelson didn't seem very good and the Wendy character just came across annoying. I suppose at least they made an effort to explore Irene's backstory a bit though.

A second negative, the Shannon abuse story. For some reason it didn't really connect that well with me. I think it might be the fact that the culprit had already died many years ago so the conclusion somehow felt unsatisfying, but it all just came off as too easily resolved. At least it gave us some funny stories as a result, such as Selina swearing off guys (despite her best efforts I might add!)  The teen group are brilliant; however Shannon feels a little on the sidelines, I'm not sure why, might be because the actress is older than the others. They kind of remind me of the current teen group on Neighbours, with Shannon being a bit like Piper on the outer, with Ben, Xanthe and Angus being a bit more like Jack, Curtis and Selina. Having said that, I like Shannon's friendship with Curtis. Jack continues to be a pain but with a heart deep down. Didn't see that coming with Sam sending Selina the Valentines Day card but it was hilarious, especially when he revealed that he sent 7. Nice to see character development with the child characters by adding these small stories - it was also alluded to that Sally, being 15, still hasn't shown much interest in boys.

I never really had much interest in Roxy and judging by the fact that I don't recall her even having a final scene (did she?) I'm guessing it's not much of a loss that she's gone. I've also noticed that I'm enjoying Rob's character a lot more now, and I find he works really well with Donna and she has grown on me after spending time with him. Them pretending to be back together to wind up Irene was hilarious

Which brings me onto Alf and Angel's car accident - what a story that has been :o Usually with these types of stories, they're not emotional enough so you feel like you're just waiting for the character to get better again but it has been a rollercoaster of emotions. The timing for the crash seems almost spot on - the fact that Shane and Angel have been planning their wedding for what must be (a year?) adds such a huge impact when we suddenly think it could all be torn apart by one accident. I said after 1994 that although I enjoyed Shangel, I felt like we were just getting started with them and I was right. I've cried a few times. Melissa George in particular has been phenomenal, and I admit I cried at Alf breaking down in the kitchen to Ailsa. This is another story that reminds me of Neighbours; when Susan ran down Bridget in 2007, although this has far more impact as Bridget was new whereas Shangel are a huge part of the Summer Bay community. The casting for the Doctor has been great too. Usually we get some one-dimensional character just saying the lines a doctor would say, but this Doctor actually feels real which adds to the sense of urgency and realism of the plot.

I better get on with watching the next 30 or so episodes ^_^

I loved the scene at the school today where Don spoke about the impact Lara's death was having on Curtis and all the others in the community.

I do think things were written in a deeper way back then. There's definitely a sense of carry on through and storylines are developed and explored in a better way, far better than they are today.

Spoiler

Yes, unfortunately. The contrast is so stark it's ironic. It's as if Mr Fisher undoes all the good work he has done in these episodes.

Glad Jack apologised to Shannon but only after Andrew told him jealousy and anger wasn't good for him.

Rob should just leave Donna and Andrew alone.

Shannon it's just a purity ring the guy isn't asking you  to marry him.

It was good to see Angel and Shane home Don just wouldn't leave the newlyweds alone.

Did anyone else find it surprising to see Angel come home form the honeymoon and she is suddenly walking with a stick? I know that before the wedding she could walk a little bit and obviously we saw her walk down the aisle with some assistance, but she came back home just walking around freely.

Glad to see Jack and Curtis make up. Poor Ailsa dealing with everything on her own. I guess she went through Meg dying with Blake and now Curtis with Lara.

Good to see Michael and Pippa not fighting anymore.
