1995 Episode Discussion

Ahhh ok, I was obviously reading too much into the dialogue and the meaningful glances! I do remember his disappearance being much more random, thought my memory was playing tricks on me.

I see the table in the diner that was in front of the magical door for the past few weeks has now been removed, and the door has acquired a handle. It's funny how they gradually changed it so it would be less noticeable. I certainly don't think I noticed it back in 1995 until the first time Marilyn (or was it Angel?) used it.

I'm still trying to figure out some of the hostility towards Shane and Angel on here for their supposed bad treatment of Donald. What exactly did they do that was so wrong?Take down a painting that he hung in their home without asking? The custody case is a bit more ambivalent but it does seem like Ma Harris was fine with Dylan going to live with Angel until Paul decided he wanted Dylan living with him and his wife-to-be (so Dylan will be living somewhere unfamiliar whatever happens) and started playing dirty.Ironically, if Angel had put Dylan in foster care she'd probably find it a lot easier to get him back.

I must admit my 15-year-old self found Rob giving Andrew a taste of his own medicine rather satisfying. My enlightened 21st century self...doesn't entirely disagree. If Rob had punched Andrew without direct provocation that might have been a bit awkward, but Andrew was effectively attacking Donna at the time so I think it's justified as defending her.Anyway, he's in the hands of the police now, and possibly anger management if he ever manages to stop blaming everyone else and face up to what he is.If he thinks his girlfriend having a friend over gives him a license to assault her...then he'd better get used to living alone.

Shannon was harsh blaming Jack for not telling them about Andrew, but then Jack was equally harsh towards Sally.I guess he apologised in the end, shame Isla Fisher appeared to fluff her lines and get Donna and Andrew mixed up during their conversation on the wharf.Undecided about Irene's behaviour towards Selina. She thinks she's helping Selina realise what she really wants but I found more understanding in Rob telling Sel not to let anyone make her do something she doesn't want to.

If our notes are correct in saying that his final ep is next Friday, then his final scene is a pretty pointless knock on the door at the end of a scene in Travis' kitchen.

Speaking of which, the old Nash house begins it's 20 year tenure on Monday.

I think the Donna/Andrew scenario challenged people's views on DV so well, because we knew what she was doing with Rob was going to push Andrews buttons.  One of the most difficult things to change in society has been the view that the victim is to blame, or the woman somehow asked for it with their actions.  I liked donnas talk with the class in today's episode, no one should have to feel like they are walking on eggshells and have their behaviour controlled by others.  The kids at school have certainly had some deep stuff thrown at them to think about, first the pregnancy stuff now this.

a prime example of angels selfish behaviour was her having a go at Michael for not taking on the boatshed job to save Shane's job.  She is so totally consumed by her fight for Dylan's custody, she has no right to make Michael feel guilty for wanting to look after his own quality of life.  She needs to recognise that Rob needs to make business decisions which are going to benefit the boat shed financially.  But she thinks it's all about her and in this sense is being selfish IMO.  Same thing with accepting dons money.  I would be inclined to say, you want your independence, you are on your own, fight your own battles.

I thought Donna's talk about domestic violence was really good in the way she put it out there to the kids.

The view still exists that the woman caused it and asked for it with her actions. It is very unfortunate and not the case whatsoever, but antiquated views still hold firm. Society's views are never very quick to change.

If I was Andrew I would be blaming Rob, for "pushing my buttons". Rob lacked decorum and manners, and dealt with it in a very rude way. I agree it is irrational to take it out on Donna to the extent Andrew did.

Donna going on about it to the class has the distinct smell that the Producers are embedding "awareness messages" into the show.

I wouldn't be blaming Rob. What Shannon said was true- Donna didn't ask for it, and neither did Rob. It's no one's fault but Andrew's and the blame lies solely with himself. To me, blaming someone else- whether it be Donna or Rob is effectively saying Andrew didn't have a choice in hitting her, or that he wasn't responsible for his own actions, which he most definitely was.
