What made her change her mind?

She probably realised it would make her feel like she had a purpose. I'm not surprised Selina fell pregnant, she's quite impulsive and I think the story is quite in-character.

I think it's a shame the Jack/Selina relationship went nowhere.

Because she has had one miscarriage does that mean she believes she will never be able to carry through a pregnancy later in life? Is that why she thinks her life is over?

She's quite insecure about boys and relationships and probably doesn't believe a man will stick with her long-term, so the fact she was pregnant was an opportunity for her to have a purpose, at least in her own mind.

Maybe she thinks she won't have another relationship which will last long enough to get to the baby-making stage.

Caught up on the last three episodes.Shane seems to have missed the point of self-sufficiency somewhat. He buys a pig, intending to eat it.Um, how's that being self-sufficient? It's not like he was planning to breed it, once they'd eaten it it'd be gone.Might as well buy it once it's dead like everyone else does, it seemed like making work for himself more than anything else.

Sam is well and truly entering his bratty phase. He was out of line with what he said to Shannon, and seemed to take pleasure in seeing her upset. And then he does the same thing to Sal! Shannon really didn't know when to take a hint and acted like a bit of a prima donna, she deserved that tongue-lashing from Curtis after accusing him of leading her on.Oh well, I guess she came round in the end.

Selina's miscarriage. I'm tempted to suggest Irene set her up for a fall but actually I don't think she had much effect on the situation, it seemed like it was the rubella scare that made Selina want the baby. The storyline seems like a bit of a waste, especially in retrospect (then again the grandchildren Irene actually does have seem to have disappeared from the story), it would have been interesting to see them follow it through rather than taking the decision out of Selina's hands.Maybe they were worried about a repeat of Sophie. The cot was a wince-inducing moment, I kept expecting Irene to realise but nope.

Donald seems to have taken a level in jerkass recently, it's as if he's suddenly regressed about five years in terms of character development.Much of his recent behaviour would be worthy of Alan Stone or Lois Crawford.I'm wondering if we're meant to draw some conclusion that he's missing Shane and Angel, that suddenly living alone again after all those years in a house full of people has hardened him.Joe and Sally...hmm. I seem to remember spending most of this storyline dreaming about slowly garrotting Joe.Watching it again, he didn't exactly let her down gently but didn't seem excessively cruel. He does seem to be using her as a substitute for Teresa though, he seemed genuinely interested in her when he spoke to Jack, then as soon as Teresa complimented her he seemed to change his mind.

Oh and how could I forget: Alf's back! That colourful shirt he wore when he first appeared was great, shame he switched back to his usual style so soon.It hasn't stopped Ailsa being a stress-head though and she's becoming very irritable. Some lovely Alf/Curtis scenes, especially when Alf let Curtis give himself a lecture.

Joe was awful to Sally its like he doesn't like smart girls. He's got a thing against smart girls. Some guys do unfortunately.

I've never liked little sally because she seems like everyone's little princess eg. remember the feud that went on between her and Dodge? And I don't like how she is made out to have magical powers, like being so smart at maths,

Spoiler

being promoted to headmistress at the school so quickly,

and seemingly being able to know Dodge was a villain when almost everyone else thought he was innocent.

Dodge was secretly bullying her, so of course she reacted as anyone would in that situation, she thought 'Wow, what a twat this guy is' - no matter how innocent everyone else thought he was.

I don't think Sally seems like everyone's princess, if anything there seems to be more of an emphasis on making her seem quite 'daggy' compared to other characters because she's not conventionally 'beautiful' and is quite sensible for her age. Also I don't see what the problem is with her being bumped up a grade in maths - the teachers have just realised that she's obviously capable of tackling the higher level so have aligned her education accordingly.

I think Joe (and Jack to a degree) is being a typical insecure teenager, responding immaturely because he doesn't know how to deal with his own jealousy issues.

Also, going by the conversation Joe had with Sally, was the reason for his rejection really her being smart at maths, or because she is the "ugliest dog in the school"?

Joe: You want to know why I said no [to going out with you]?
sally: Because I'm good at maths.
Joe: No. Because you're the ugliest dog in the school.
