I probably should have commented on the new theme tune.It...will take some getting used to.

So, Episode 1702.The effect that Ailsa being divorced from reality is having on her loved ones is quite painful to watch.Alf trying to restore some sort of normality was obviously doomed to fail, but as he admits at the end, there's not much else he can do.

The whole "Welcome Back, New Guy" thing seems to be stretched to its limits by turning Gus into an old friend/acquaintance of the teens.Despite his light-fingered behaviour (are we to assume he destroyed Travis' watch in a childish tantrum?) and occasional obnoxiousness, having him be a friend to Sally at a time when she really needs one of those did almost get me in his corner.Meanwhile, Shannon seems to be desperately convincing herself that Curtis and Selina are in the wrong. It's hard to tell what the deal was with her getting dressed up for a babysitting job: She did seem slightly smitten when Shane complimented her looks, but it mostly felt like a "Look good, feel good" attempt.Angel doesn't do her cause much good by acting like a nagging wife.

I dunno Ailsa being snatched had a sort of chilling factor to it. Partly because of British Butchery (Thanks to our Ball-less friends at ITV with double standards when it came to homegrown tv)

I agree with Angel to degree it was a case of "GTFO of the road you dozy mare!"

Angel being menaced with the Toy Clown on the car that a certain vindictive XBF sends her seems more funny than scary

Caught up on 1703 and 1704.I can well remember that feeling of satisfaction when Don caught Lynch red-handed about to vandalise Sally's locker: No way he could talk his way out of that one.He probably deserved more of a comeuppance that one of Donald's lectures but it certainly hit home.More so than Wilson's pointless vigilantism: Sally needed him in her corner when she was being picked on, not jumping on the bandwagon when it's common knowledge.Sally's smug look at the end was almost unnecessary given the Humiliation Conga he's just been through.Still, she seems to be abandoning her straight arrow principles in hanging out with Gus, who is generally hard to like and, her well-documented appalling taste in boyfriends aside, it's hard to see why Sally seems so smitten with him.

Also in the clearly smitten camp is Shannon. There were strong rumours of an affair with Shane around my school back then, and they do have a chemistry(and not as much of an age gap as it might look!), but she should know better than trying to come between the golden couple. While Shannon's view that Shane and Angel are on the rocks seems to be informed by her only seeing part of the picture, Angel's standoffish attitude towards her is a bit odd.She doesn't actually view her as a rival, does she?Probably not, it actually felt like she's put out that Shannon did a better job of putting her house in order than she does. (Her expression when Don compliments them on the tidy house screamed discomfort.)

What I've found interesting is how insecure/unpredictable Angel has become, which I didn't really pick up on back in 1995. She can be very quick to lose her cool over what seems like such minor issues and Shane seems to just accept that she'll lose it and then calm down and apologise. He can play her at her own game too though so it sort of balances out, but I do think that she's a lot more complex than I remembered. For a period I was wondering if it was just over the top acting here and there, but now I think that it's deliberately played that way. I have to say also that Angel is looking so cool at the moment, really like her dress sense and obviously Melissa George is beautiful.

Definitely feels like a new era for the show with the revamped theme tune. I actually really disliked it 1995 and have always preferred the original, but it's pleasantly nostalgic to be watching the show with the 90's theme.

Also forgot how nicely paced Ailsa's storyline was. It's been great to have Judy Nunn at the centre of the action over the past few months instead of just behind the counter. She actually seems completely 'mad' now - if it was in the 19th Century she would have been locked up in an asylum for the rest of her life.

I am not liking the new soundtrack at all, but I never like change.

could Gus be any more irritating?  He is extremely annoying, not to mention everyone seems to turn a blind eye to his thieving and vandalism.  His introduction follows a common theme of rogue siblings turning up in the bay ( eg Nathan, Frankie). Hoping he disappears soon, he is a bit like fingernails down a blackboard.

shannons giggly flirty act around Shane is also So over the top, it's cringeworthy.

Poor ailsa, she needs to be detained and put in a psych ward, if Donna knew anything about the mental health act (which you think she would, being a practicing psychologist), she would know that is what should happen.  Blind freddy can see she is delusional and irrational.
