I think the great thing about Sally is that she always helps to ground the show in reality because Kate plays the character so realistically. I know some of the audience found her irritating but I think that's because she was just so real and somehow that was cringe worthy (I'm thinking about how people I knew back in '95 responded to her). But she was one of my favourites around this time back then, I always looked forward to her screen time.

I agree Irene can be overbearing - I find her a more interesting compared to how she was mid 00's-present, she's got a lot more flaws.

Kate Ritchie is absolutely brilliant. I actually think even in 1995 she's one of the best actors on the show, even at the age of 15 (or however old she was). I don't think I've ever seen such a young actor be so brilliant. You're right, she did feel so real. The thing that astounds me more than anything, is not how good her acting is, but how real her relationships with the other characters feel. When I see her having a go at Jack, it feels like she really is his foster sister. Likewise Sam. She makes the current early years eps feel so much more secure and stable than they would have felt if she'd left say in 1992 or 1993.

Rob Storey is probably still living in Summer Bay and running the boat shed and tutting as he works and watches the Braxtons and Barretts get into another scuffle lol. :D

I think Scott bought the boat shed in early 2003. I'm sure it was the same one. As the location was the same I think. Then Angie burned it down,

Yes it was the same one, and Scott actually bought it from Alf.

Who probably bought Rob out at least in the 2000s. Rob's last mention came in 1999.

Incidentally, I'd like him to randomly visit Irene and she treat him like he's never been away.

Great point! I know I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed the show nearly as much if Sally hadn't been there. When you watch the episode of Australian Story about Kate leaving H&A, she actually says that she often had thoughts like 'I bet she's really upset with me (Sally)'. Kate was living and breathing her life not just playing a character, which surely is the benchmark for all actors.

Sally is really coming into her own this year (and about time). She was always fantastic at the emotional scenes of course but for the past few years she's not had much focus on a week-to-week basis, instead mainly just being the kid in the background. It's great to see her develop into a proper character this year and she feels so real. The fact that she's' not one of the cool kids like Shannon and Curtis just makes her more likeable and relate-able.

Interesting episode today with a slightly different format than usual. It's very rare for the show to do quite so long a two-hander scene as the one we saw today with Joe and Teresa. I say two-hander but Irene and Selina hanging around was a slightly odd inclusion, I would have preferred if they weren't there because I don't think they added anything to the scene other than be a distraction.

Very well done scene between Joe and Teresa. I thought the inclusion of Selina and Irene hanging around in the background added a sense of awkwardness and discomfort to the scene which was effective. It also made it seem more "real" somehow. It wasn't like a big dramatic showdown in a soap opera, with dramatic music and all other characters conveniently absent. It was just a normal day at home with dinner being served and suddenly this discussion happens. I liked it.

It's a bit hard to be sympathetic to Ailsa's breakdown when she's being a such a b****. Alf should contact the long-forgotten Brother Graham (Ailsa's best friend and confidant before coming to the Bay).
