1995 Episode Discussion

Captain Hulk. You have remarked many times in the past about how Selina has caused me to lose my temper. Well this is one of the main reasons why I hate her guts. Her attitude problem, her whole personality from around the time she started going out with Curtis, smells like something that has gone off.

Honestly, what is it exactly that makes you say he should wear a mask rather than a blindfold? Is there a mechanism of prejudice to do with "Mud"'s character. Prejudices happen for all types. Take racism for instance. The things Max Richards says about "wogs" and "greaseballs" being let into the country and "turning it yellow". That is a prejudice. Some of the mechanisms behind those prejudices as Max explains to Cloe are to do with how they breed and what values they bring into the country. Those are xenophobic mechanisms behind the racial prejudices.

Well, prejudice is at play when it comes to Selina's attitude to Irene's ex-husband. Is it the way he "looks", his appearance? Like a black person "looks" ugly to a racist with xenophobic tendencies?

Some random points from recent episodes:

Great to hear the original Fletcher family theme used one last time (I think this was the very last time). And lovely to hear it being used for something other than an exit these days, but more like its original use, all the family together in a rare happy moment.

I couldn't believe my ears when, in response to Alf complaining about running everything while Ailsa was away, Irene replied to the effect of "Ailsa managed it ok while you were away". Um.... what?

I hate to admit it but having seen the episodes I kind of see where Old H&A Fan is coming from. The difference being that I do think Mud is a total sleeze and I have nothing against Selina. But she did start calling him a sleeze and saying he gave her the creeps etc, before he'd even so much as glanced in her direction, which I must admit confused me a little. Again I'm not saying I like the guy and I know where the storyline goes, at which point I'll be 100% on Selina's side. But yeah, I didn't understand her original judgement of him, unless it was based on things that happened off-screen.

Angel telling Shane immediately, about that producer guy making a pass at her, is exactly what he should have done in the Shannon situation. Of course, he learned that lesson the hard way. And it's obviously being setup to look like he sent the letter...

They included the original "Next time" trailer from the 1995 airings at the end of Friday's episode. They haven't done this before have they? Or have I not been paying attention?

Thursday's ep was the first time I think - good idea if they've still got the original promos to hand, some of the ones I have on eps from the later 1990s are quite funny when you watch them back now (back in the days when they didn't actually give away everything weeks in advance)

The appearance thing was a joke! Or those not allowed anymore?!  In Ugly stakes, his ratbag Eldest Son has him beat!

Okay, Take away Mud's appearance. Even if he was some Suave, Debonair James Bond-looking type, it'd still be creepy what he's doing! Rolling up on 16yo girls who don't want any of that!  And you always clowned Jesse about his! And let's not forget Travis and Alex being "dirty hippies" So Pot, Kettle...

I didn't say jokes weren't allowed. I just didn't understand it that's all.

With Jesse, he actually stole people's cars and made himself look like the "baddie-come-good" when in fact his silly jokes about the little girl he had because of some stupidity. Travis, well,

Spoiler

he and Kelly are vomit-worthy. And he never left "Rebecca" (the one who eventually succumbed to breast cancer) alone.

Who cares what "mud" (a stupidly inappropriate nickname) is doing is seen by "some" as "creepy". Selina should have just copped it sweet instead of flinging mud at him all the time (to pardon the pun hehe)
