Holly Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 lol. Ok well its my favourite poem. The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe Quote
Holly Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 For Dean: Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. " 'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door; Only this, and nothing more." Isn't this the best opening stanza ever. I just adore the language in this poem It's excellent for being over 160 years old. Quote
Holly Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 He surely was. Insane maybe but a genius. I love this poem because there are so many ways you can interpret the real meaning. And the language and feel of it, are just wonderful. I like lots of his things too. The tell tale heart is a good story of his. Nice. 160 years old though? Yeah it was published in the mid 1840's, don't know exactly when it's written. Have you seen the episode of the Simpsons when they do this poem? It is excellent! Quote
Holly Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming. And the lamplight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted---nevermore! And I shall quote no more poetry :-D Edited April 28, 2006 by Holly Quote
